10/10 from EDGE? Uh...yea I was not expecting that. Hope all the reviews are great so ND people can breathe a sigh of relief. Reviews don't mean shit to me personally.

It is indeed really good. Tomorrow should be interesting when the scores land.
That's great to hear man. Looking forward to when the embargo lifts as well.

Writing my review in a few minutes. I'm looking forward to it.

In 100% honesty, I know I made a joke about you scoring the game a 2 out of 10, but I really hope you don't let the venom and cynicism of the internet plague what your honest opinion of the title is. Looking forward to the review, and good luck Naughty Dog!

I honestly wish you were around when the 10 out of 10s were being thrown out to that piece of hot garbage called GTA IV.

Yeah, I suppose.

But in any case, Naughty Dog must be on top of the world. Looking at the previews, I think they may have crafted the perfect game.
I just wanna read that Edge review to see how they've justified that score. Sometimes their scores don't match, but I find them consistent overall.

To anyone hoping for another 8/10 situation, that might not happen:

They gave UC3 a 9? Ummm, credibility flushed.

Why? Because they gave Uncharted 2 the same number?

EDGE actually reviews games based on what has been released thus far in the last year or two. Just because U2 is the better game does not mean U3 doesn't deserve the 9 as well.

3 hours left till I'll start up The Last of Us, putting on my Sony HMZ-T1 and letting myself get sucked in with no breaks, completing it in a day, so that I can have my review up soon.

I'm thinking of going either Normal or Hard on my first play-through and take it all in.

It have also been a long time I have played a game without having seen a lot of it beforehand.

Jim Sterling hasn't finished writing his review, also when that was posted, I am pretty sure Polygon hadn't decided on the score yet either. I hope the Naughty Dog faithful don't turn this game's review score into a us versus them scenario. I love Naughty Dog's games and hold them on a pedestal, but I surely don't expect glowing reviews from people who tend to hate their narrative style or gameplay quirks.

That review is just terrible. Why are they so highly regarded here?
Ewww, it's like an spec sample for a job on The Newsroom.

No, it doesn't deserve a 9 because it's bad.

An EDGE 10/10 may not be an opinion shared by the consensus, but at least means whatever the game is should be a fucking cracker of a game. They've been dead-on so far- I'm now incredibly excited for this game.

I'm looking forward to this hugely! I've watched a few vids and what not. I think it's great ND have held stuff back, i mean the only bit i've seen in extended form is from E3 last year! So i'll look at scores but will i hell be reading anything!!!

journalists who hate narrative-style games shouldn't review them.

OT:
How do you like the HMZ-T1 after the honey moon period? I keep seeing it at the store and want to purchase one, but the hysteria behind the comfort issues, the fact that it's wired, and the 720p drawback has prevented me from plunking down the 500 + dollars for it.

Because UC3 doesn't deserve a 9. But that's neither here nor there.

I've already pre-ordered TLoU, but I'm not falling into this high review hype again. The kind of crazy statements we get every single time there's a high profile release in the game industry (like 10-15 times a year) is insane. I'm fully expecting an Uncharted 3 style backlash and, unlike that time, I'm preparing myself mentally for any potential letdown.

Never again, game journalists. Never again.

Seems a bit unfair to the developers to rush a review like that.

Maybe it's just me, but I think this would be best enjoyed as if sipping on fine wine, rather than trying to jug it all down because you need to be somewhere quick.

journalists who hate narrative-style games shouldn't review them.

Every outlet has their own criteria on how they judge a game. The review scores have become a dick measuring contest instead of what they were originally intended for - to present the game for its stregnth and weaknesses. Jim Sterling hasn't exactly been nice to prior Sony exclusives, so I don't expect the world out of his review score, but that's totally fine, and I understand where he comes from.

My issue with reviews is the unanimous praise certain titles get despite being completely lackluster IMO- Grand Theft Auto IV and Halo 3 are two games that should have been scored strong 8s.

I'm not against negative reviews, but I worry with such a high profile games like these (with also being exclusive) there might inevitably be some sites that are looking to give a low score just to boost their website hits out of controversy from hardcore fan-base. Having said that I have faith and trust in most of the reviewers integrity in that they will give a truthful opinion.

I'm fairly optimistic about Jim's opinion myself. And I seem to recall a bevy of Sony exclusives that he's received fairly well.

And now I'm in agony for not owning a PS3...

I'm waiting E3 to see if The Last Guardian surfaces again and on what platform.
I'll probably just borrow a PS3 until then.

The 720p is actually fine for me. The cord is short and can get annoying, especially how you can either feel it on your face or on your chest or anywhere. The earbuds can also be a bit annoying, as I am using my surround sound setup. I kind of fixed the comfort issue by buying another pad for the forehead and some stuff of soft material to hold it better in place - it doesn't change that it's heavy. In fact, I almost never use it anymore but with The Last of Us I probably will. =)

I'm still happy with my purchase of the HMZ-T1, no doubt about it.

I asked this in another thread but didn't get a reply, so I thought I'd ask here as well; does anyone know how open the environments are supposed to be? They've mentioned they are "semi" open, but linear, or something like that. Does anyone know specifically, maybe someone that played the demo? Is the game supposed to be large?

That is reviewing for you.

Plenty of games being released so you can not ask of them to review a single game for over a week or two.

But then again, why would this matter? If the game is good, it is good regardless of critics who want attention. Funnily enough I trust Edge the most, and if they give it a perfect score... Well... Then I just damn well might buy a PS3 just for that game.

But I didn't say I will rush through it. I said I will aim to complete it in a day - 24 hours is long for a singleplayer campaign. I will take it all in as I stated and enjoy it fully, thus me dedicating a whole day to it.

Level design wise it's linear with branching spaces.

we all know polygon is ms-pr and destructoid just clickbaits with reviews.....

Think of something like Dishonored. Largeish areas where you have a bunch of options in how you can approach them, but ultimately you're still being pointed in a specific direction, it's just a question of how you get there.

Yes..but I know, from my gaming experience, that there are many times when you just get burned out from the game and it's mechanics from simply playing it to long, and would benefit from some breaks here and there.

Plus, giving yourself some time to soak in what you just experienced would benefit yourself as a review as well I imagine.

A review score is an editor's opinion. Putting too much stock into an opinion is a habit us as gamers need to ween off of.

There are already folks around the water cooler waiting for this game's first 8 out of 10. I am sure there will be 8 out of 10's, and I am sure there will be 6 out of 10's. The reality is- you should form an opinion based on what you think, not the hive mind. I eagerly await the opinions of others, but that doesn't cloud my judgement.

Shit there is a reviewer in this thread who has yet to PLAY the game and is trying force his way through it in 24 hours.
I could give a fuck less what his review says. (no offense)

The next few days will be ban hammers, tears, and angst all over the place. People hold onto their platform exclusives - IE Mario Galaxy, Halo 3, and Uncharted 2. I hope we have matured since Uncharted 3 and treat this game as a body of work, not a number on a scale.

Lastly, I want to mention two games that never got perfect score's, but in my opinion were much better than Halo 3 or GTA IV -
1. Batman Arkham Asylum
2. Sleeping Dogs

Fuck review scores.

GAF instantly falls in love with game journos who happen to agree with their hype.

Also this thread is one negative review away from another wall of shame. Just look at some the silly posts on this page. at the mere thought of one.
