The Legend of Korra: Book Two – Spirits |OT| Korra Ain't Number Wan

Hey, thanks for the corrections for the OP shira and Azula. I'll be fixing it this evening.

Only four-ish days to go, so hype! My brother has watched the leaked shaky cam first episode (I have standards as far as visuals go, so I could never do that) and he enjoyed it. I generally trust his judgement on things like plot and so on, so this bodes well in my view! :D

Season 1 was great, really enjoyed it. I'll record all episodes and watch them altogether in December :)

Hopefully we get another main character, Korra is a little dull. What's with this Wan guy?

It's a spoiler, so really if you want to come into the show fresh then you'll just have to wait. Otherwise:

He was the first avatar and I believe they're dedicating two episodes (at least) to him.

wat.

At least the deus ex machina in ATLA made sense. In Korra,
what did Aang even do? He unlocked her chakras for her because she reached her "lowest point"? I'll take the lion turtle over that any day.
I seriously hope it gets explained in S2.

I haven't looked through it but I've heard there's a case for saying
she unlocked her chakras herself throughout the season. Apparently she lets go of all the things she's meant to at various points, and the final step is her giving up on all earthly attachments standing on the edge of the cliff (possibly because she was contemplating suicide so the next avatar could be born or something).

Ugh, I groan whenever I see that theory pop up on /r/TheLastAirbender. It's basically The Legend of Confirmation Bias. Here it is, if anyone's interested.

And seriously, if we're gonna argue that simply experiencing the emotions associated with the various chakras is enough to master the Avatar state, then by that logic, Aang should've been able to master the it twelve times over by the end of ATLA season 2. Shoot, maybe even by the end of season 1.

Exactly. If you're going to do this, make it explicit and mention chakras by name. I mean, people who haven't watched the original don't even know what chakras (and their function) are.

No problem. I'm a hardcore nerd for this show, so I'm constantly checking for the new info. That said, I'm going to be very cautious with what I post. Don't want to spoil anything for anyone. I'll obviously use spoiler tags. But if there is ever episode info for OP, I'll probably just PM you (I mean, episode titles/release dates etc.).

I just got a warning from Photobucket that I'm about to hit my bandwidth cap on images (I didn't know there was one...), so I'm going to relocate the OP's images. If anything vanishes in the next hour or so, you know why.

Edit: Okay, fixed the larger images. Put them on a new host. I'll keep the avatars on my photobucket as they're really small. Hopefully they survive...

That would probably be for the best, yeah. When the episodes start airing and all the posts/speculation is being made, it's easy for info like that to get lost.

Pretty excited for this. Book 1: Air was extremely disappointing, but they've had a lot of time to work on things. And with Books 3 and 4 already confirmed, things might not be incredibly rushed this time.

Hopefully Mako and the romance drama in general are more tolerable this season, and Lin and Asami kick even more ass.

A:TLA season 2 was the best season.

So very true.

Really hope this season is better than the last, also anyone know if it'll be available on iTunes (bought the season pass for 1 the first time around)? Don't got cable and not sure if i can find streaming sites this time around

I really enjoyed season 1, despite its flaws. It was so beautifully animated that I can't help but love it. I hope season 2 improves on some of these faults, although I'm sure it wont be drastically different.

Can't wait for this.

A:TLA season 2 was the best season, hope it'll be the same here.

gotta agree, season 2 of A:TLA was a treat, filled with twists and turns, feels and plus it focused on my favorite element, earth, not to mention introducing the badass toph, My favorite character.

What a complete load.

She didn't unlock shit, this show has never had this kind of subtlety in its writing.

Book 2 of The Last Airbender is one of the best seasons of television, anywhere—I don't even feel the need to qualify it with "for a kid's show." Aside from Avatar Day, just about the entire season is top quality. Really great stuff.

What a complete load.

Agreed.

There won't be an answer that satisfies anyone. It was a Deus Ex pure and simple. And to be honest, the whole Chakra plot in ATLA was also non-sense and never really came together in the end IMO.

Not even a little bit.

"Let go of all worldly connections or you'll never be able to access the Avatar State."

"lol no"

"Okay, don't worry about it. Never fear, random rock outcropping is here."

Yeah. And you figured they were actually going somewhere with the whole Katara + letting go stuff. It really never amounted to anything. And hell, even the Guru just randomly popping up to reveal all that info always bugged me.

A lot of people complain about the Lion Turtle. And I admit, that was handled poorly. But at least energy bending was awesome, and it was used effectively. But the Charka/Avatar state IMO was the worst plot offense by the end of the series. They introduced it at the end of Season 2, and it really had no pay off or consequences in the end. But I guess it wasn't such a big problem, given that the final plot with Aang vs Ozai was so epic, you didn't really care.

Alright, forgot it was happening this Friday! Hopefully they actually flesh things out this time. Let's see some real character development pls

I actually remember calling bull-crap on Aang being able to access the Avatar state again during the battle with Ozai just because the spot were he got stroke with Lightening was hit really hard.

What was the supposed excuse for that anyways. The Rock hit the wound where he died, and kind of made him die again - thus opening the Chakra? I was always confused about the rock thing. I mean, obviously I know it was sloppy writing. But what was the sloppy excuse for why that worked?

I'm sure the creators have said this in an interview or something.

Oh? So Season 2 is airing on Friday nights now? Somewhat inconvenient but at least I don't have to get up too early on Saturdays anymore

Holy crap it starts this Friday! It feels like it's been forever since the end of Book 1. I am definitely excited for the new season, I just hope it's much closer to the Last Airbender this time around in terms of storytelling and pacing.

Agreed. The lion turtle and energy bending were dei ex machina, but they were thematically perfect dei ex machina. The chakras thing, in Aang's case as well as Korra's, was just confusing.

I always assumed Azula hit him were his seventh Chakra was (I don't remember were the Guru said it was) there by locking it but when the rock hit it again it unlocked it. Somehow? Cause you know if magic water from a magical spring in the north pool wont fix it, a rock to the back will!

Ah. But even if she did cut off the Chakra by hitting the Chakra spot, it still doesn't make sense why he was able to open the final one completely, because he didn't entirely open the last one before dying. If he did, then his feelings for Katara wouldn't have been there in the final season.

That's what bugged me about it, that he had complete control of the state, just because it..re-opened the chakra pathway. But that wasn't the issue. My guess is, they claim that Aang did in fact let go of her in that Season 2 finale (when he said sorry, and went under the rock to open the final Chakra). So technically he did open it, but because he died during it, the Chakra path stayed open (but was closed due to the physical injury blocking it).

But because he died, he...could care about Katara? Or something. Fuck it lol Thinking too hard on it.

That trailer was awesome. Definitely hyped now! :D

It put my fears aside that the overall season would be kind of aimless. Seems like there is a major plot/crisis driving it. So it has me really excited. Makes me feel less unsure about it. I just wonder if the spirit stuff will have ramifications beyond this season, and if they will have anything set up to carry across the last 2 books (a more central conflict).

Bryke have pretty much said a villain a season. Whether that culminates into something bigger... I dunno. I'm not getting my hopes up in that regard.

But, I'm expecting lots of character arcs to fan over the next three seasons.
