Laying claim to the Pabu avatar (thanks Omikaru!) since he did the impossible and actually rivaled Momo in terms of cuteness. Possibly the only thing in ATLA to equal or surpass its ATLA counterpart other than the general quality of the art and the soundtrack.

I've been really looking forward to this show coming back lately. To be honest, I was ready for a break after the end of S1 (I think it was worse than any ATLA season, but I've always been an ATLA S1 defender so meh). With such a long break though, I've found that absence is making my heart grow fonder and I really want to go back to the Avatarverse now. Hopefully it'll be a fun ride.

What was the supposed excuse for that anyways. The Rock hit the wound where he died, and kind of made him die again - thus opening the Chakra? I was always confused about the rock thing. I mean, obviously I know it was sloppy writing. But what was the sloppy excuse for why that worked?

I'm sure the creators have said this in an interview or something.

he hit a chakra point which is where it needed to be unlocked.

Ah. But even if she did cut off the Chakra by hitting the Chakra spot, it still doesn't make sense why he was able to open the final one completely, because he didn't entirely open the last one before dying. If he did, then his feelings for Katara wouldn't have been there in the final season.

That's what bugged me about it, that he had complete control of the state, just because it..re-opened the chakra pathway. But that wasn't the issue. My guess is, they claim that Aang did in fact let go of her in that Season 2 finale (when he said sorry, and went under the rock to open the final Chakra). So technically he did open it, but because he died during it, the Chakra path stayed open (but was closed due to the physical injury blocking it).

But because he died, he...could care about Katara? Or something. Fuck it lol Thinking too hard on it.

This is will just lead to, to much speculation anyway. Besides this is pretty much a nit pick. One that still bugs me but a nit pick none the less!

he hit a chakra point which is where it needed to be unlocked.

I do not have the time to go back and see but can anyone go and check where the last Chakra was at so we can know if the rock did indeed hit him in that spot?

Bryke have pretty much said a villain a season. Whether that culminates into something bigger... I dunno. I'm not getting my hopes up in that regard.

But, I'm expecting lots of character arcs to fan over the next three seasons.

I forgot about that. Kind of a bummer tbh. I really wonder what the purpose of the series is if each season is its own self contained (villain of a season) kind of thing. Oh well, as long as every season is great can't really complain.

Oh man oh man oh man oh man.... I had gone so far off the grid to avoid to avoid further spoils that I completely forgot we were so close to another season! Time to get hyped.

I'm not entirely certain what to do with a primetime schedule though. I used to have a breakfast ritual for last season but now.. I'm going to have to do something new. Dinner party? Can I make enough dumplings and fruit pies?

I have much things to contemplate.

What is this dumplings? You need tea, fire flakes, cactus juice, street gruel, and melon lords

so glad it's almost here. can't believe it's been over a year.

korra was great. it wasn't the last airbender, but i liked it a lot. here's hoping this is better.

Nope, it didn't. It hit him around the middle of his back. I think it has something to do with:

Guru Pathik said:
The water flows through this creek, much like the energy flows through your body. As you see, there are several pools where the water swirls around before flowing on. These pools are like our chakras.

So I'm guessing Azula's attack stopped the flow as it were, not allowing him to enter the AS. And Aang hitting the rock sort of removed whatever was blocking it.

However, on the Avatar Wiki it says that "...the [thought] chakra was immediately locked again when Azula shot him down with a lightning attack." I'm not sure if that was confirmed by Bryke or they're just assuming it.

For some reason I thought the show was still on Saturdays until earlier today, so I'm still trying to work out how to see the show too. Most of the people in my family sleep in late on the weekends so I had no problem getting the TV and watching the new episode while I ate breakfast. With 7 PM it will likely overlap with family dinner and/or other people using the TV. And I have to help my brother move this Friday, but he's also a fan so if we finish early enough I might be able to convince him to watch with me. :lol

Well hot leaf juice is a given... but unfortunately it's getting out of season for melon lords. However I'm pretty sure no one would bat an eyelash at some dumplings on the table. They are very earth kingdom.

It was killing me when it had been more than a year and we still didnt even have a date to when season 2 was going to be aired, I was losing so much hope.

Personally, Friday works a lot better for me than Saturday. But that's just how my schedule works out. Not a fan of mornings. Then again, I imagine like most people, I would have used DVR.

Since it's airing on Friday night, hopefully the episodes will be up on iTunes/Amazon by Saturday morning. I really don't want to have to wait an entire day to see each new episode again. >_<

If it's sold on iTunes, the release times are unpredictable. I've seen shows go up at midnight/1am the day it aired. I've seen it go up 6am the next day.

I bought from iTunes US last year (UK'er here, and that was the only legal way to get it) and for what it's worth, it was ready for download by Sunday morning UK time.

Yeah, generally most iTunes releases are the next day in the early morning. But it really just depends on the company that owns the show, not apple (at least, that's what I've been told). I doubt this will be any different this season.

If its from wiki than its most likely fan assumption. But I could of swore that the Guru was telling Aang where each Chakra was as he unlocked them.

So, what do you guys think about the change in art style? As you know, Studio Mir only did half the season for Book 2, and offloaded half of the season to Studio Pierrot. Which style do you prefer more?

From Studio Mir in South Korea.

From Studio Pierrot in Japan.

Gonna have to go with Mir. Colours seem a lot flatter in the Studio Pierrot screen. Although that just might be the shot.

It's definitely the shot. This season is supposed to be a lot more colorful and vibrant. Mir's work was a lot more sepia, whereas Pierrots is more bright/colorful. I guess those are kind of bad shots to compare (the first one was from the actual broadcast of Book One, second shot is from Book 2 trailer that is dark and not high quality).

I was more so talking about how Korra looks.

Just finished watching Avatar for the first time, and holy shit it's so good. I'm two episodes into Korra, and it's not as good, but ugh, it's still so good. I had tears in my eyes throughout the first episode, lol. Knowing that (almost) everyone from Avatar was long gone was a major blow to me. I don't watch much TV, and I got really attached to the Avatar gang.

Anyways, I'm out of this thread now. I'll be back when I catch up on Korra.

He did. The chakra in question is located at the crown of the head. The two events seem pretty unrelated, and that's why I guessed that what Azula did acted more as a block between chakras instead of blocking or sealing off a specific one.

Yeah but - how did the top one get unlocked, if he didn't let go of all earthly things? (The final Chakra at the crown of the head). And if he did let go, why was his feelings so strong for Katara? Aang even tells her that in the play episode: "I could have mastered the state by now, if I would have just given you up" or whatever.

I get that Azula hitting that spot cut off the pathway in general (so the Chakra couldn't flow). That all makes sense. But I don't get why he instantly mastered the Avatar State by the rock hitting it and re-opening the path. He would still need to open up the last Chakra at the crown of his head..right? I could buy that in the Season 2 finale he DID in fact open the last one -- but then I don't get why he had feelings for Katara (my assumption was that Aang was about to open the final one but then got interrupted when Azula hit him, so he didn't really open it). Hence why he still had feelings for Katara. I just don't get why in the finale, that no longer mattered.

Definitely prefer Mir over Pierrot. Looking at the book 2 trailers, Mir has much better mastery over perspective, their animation looks much more fluid and complete, the colors and lighting look much more intense and dynamic, and they do a great job of creating a sense of depth in each scene. Pierrot just isn't on that level imo. Though the latest trailer did showcase some nice-looking Pierrot scenes. Made me more optimistic about the episodes that they contributed to.

I just assumed that when Aang hit that rock he was basically done for. He was at the brink of death once again, which allowed him to realize what the guru actually meant to teach him.

At least thats how I understood it.

Yeah fair enough. I'm not really too bothered about it. It was always something that I kind of found wishy washy. But the finale was so perfect, that I didn't care one bit. ATLA did so much right, that I was willing to let things slide that might not have been as fleshed out as should have been.

That final fight between him and Ozai was stunning to say the least.

Yeah, I just hope the difference isn't too noticeable throughout the season (since the workload was split between the two studios).

I have a feeling it'll be pretty noticeable (not necessarily terrible), but we can at least find solace in the fact that Mir is already signed on to do all of season 3. :D

I still expect the colors to be more vibrant this season compared to last. I mean, Republic city was very sepia tone. And from what we've seen, the colors are more vibrant and pop more this time around. But I dunno. Guess we'll have to see.

The exact line: "Overreacting? If I hadn't blocked my chakra, I'd probably be in the Avatar State right now!"

And it only gets more confusing. So it sounds like he's referencing the moment when he left the EAT, and Guru Pathik told him the chakra would be locked. But, we saw him unlock it in the S2 finale so it's not (or shouldn't be) his fault that it's locked now. I don't even know anymore.

I'm thinking the same.

The new trailer also just shows so much more color. The spirit world will look stunning.

Can't really get hyped for this. The idea of a Spirits chapter sounds interesting, but I've got the feeling they're gonna go way over the top with all the monsters. I liked how even though TLA had some crazy shit in it it all still managed to stay relatively grounded. After the disappointing season one I don't have high hopes, but maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Lol yeah, best to just not think about it too hard. I mean the reality is, ATLA is pretty much a perfect show, when you look at the totality of it. When you step back and look at how it all came together. Does it mean every single little thing was perfect? Of course not. There are examples where the writing was kind of wishy washy. It is what it is.

I was just kind of curious what their explanation for what it was. But it seems like they never really clarified it, and we are only left with fan speculation. I guess the only reason it's kind of relevant now, is that they decided to have Korra unlock all her Chakras at the end of Book One, which was ridiculous.

I've just accepted that Avatar Aang through energy bending, forced open her chakra path , and also gave her the knowledge how to energy bend. We had a huge back and forth on this in the old thread. I know there is a ton of problems with that explanation. But just like some things in ATLA didn't make sense, I just roll with it.

The show certainly got more washed out and less colorful (Intentionally) as the show progressed, likely to reflect the worsening situation in the city. Dunno if this season will be any different, but with the spirit world / water tribe as a back drop, I would imagine it will be much more colorful.
