My box is also in ridiculously good condition. Best box I've ever received, really. But buying it from the LEGO store will do that I guess, haha. They brought it out from the back. I felt envy in the children's eyes (and got glares from the older folk).

It's wrong that this feels good when I buy a big set...

Did anyone here get the UCS Batmobile from back in the day? It looks badass. I bought one of Wetwired's tumblers (which is awesome btw).

Whatever, I can afford it like a boss. B-)

That box looks like my Robie House box. Also, I didn't realize Walmart could ship like that...

Oh, yeah. Hefting that box out of the store to your car. Like a boss. It isn't just making children envious, it is telling them that you never have to grow up.

I always enjoy hauling a couple of those large yellow LEGO bags out to the car - its an attention-getter for sure.
For the Death Star they just put handles on the big shipping box. Just a big cardboard box that said Lego Building Toy. What was in it? You had to open it to know. Anyone looking had no idea what mysteries were in the huge, heavy box.

My walmart shipment of GE came in a seperate box, and was well packed. It was in pretty much perfect condition, so YMMV.

Yeah, the GE we got from them a couple of days ago came in a ridiculously oversized box, so all was well with the packaging and whatnot.

Wound up buying the Friends Summer Home (?) set for my wife today, so used that as an excuse to pick up the Tie Fighter, Sith Interceptor, and two of the smaller Star Wars minifig sets that I forget the name of (one's got the 4 mandalorians, the other has 4 imperial troopers) while they're on sale this week.

So bad news is that's even more money on Lego :p. Good news is that with these purchases (and Town Hall coming in the next day or two) we actually now have almost all of the in-print Lego sets we want. The wife specifically wants Robie House, Haunted House, and the Winter house/village sets (either 2 or 3 of those 4 seem to still be in-print). I think I'm about good on current Star Wars stuff except for R2-D2 and the Imperial Shuttle. There's a few other odds and ends I'd like (a few of the cheaper Creator sets, maybe one or two of the PotC and LotR sets) but for the most part I'm good as well. A few of the OOP sets I'd like are not so expensive that I might bite on them (like a few of the smaller Castle sets), but for the most part I'll probably never realistically pick them up. The upcoming Hobbit sets do absolutely nothing for me (like most of the current LotR sets honestly), so I think I may actually be done until we get either new Star Wars sets next year.

I did want to ask though; we only got into Lego this year (again thanks to Tested, also fuck you Tested):

-Do there tend to be any significant Black Friday sales on Lego stuff?
-Do we post our damage for the year at the end? The wife and I have basically bought about 2-3 full years of sets all this year so it's been....significant.

The LEGO store (including online) had some pretty great sales last year for Brick Friday - a bunch of sets at 25% off, 10% off all orders of $149 or more, free Limited Edition Holiday set featuring Santa Minifigure with orders of $99 or more, and free shipping on all orders of $49 or more.

I'd be willing to post my annual tally - it could get interesting.

BTW, Calm Killer: the mini figs showed up today. Thank you. Series 8 is complete.

EDIT: Well, the red beam piece on the robot was missing. No big deal. I usually detach them anyways.

Crap. Sorry about that. I still haven't seen the ones you sent. I will see if i can find it laying around here somewhere. I apologize.

Okay just finished building the The Winter Village Cottage. The finished product is gorgeous but I have to say it was probably the worse building experience I've had with Lego (relatively speaking).

That ninjago fortress looks awesome.

Agreed - I am loving the return to the Japanese-inspired architecture from the first year of Ninjago. And I welcome more mechs.

All the Ninjago sets are a lock for me, as that's my son's theme. The fire engine, high-speed chase (hey, LEGO spike strip!) and museum robbery sets will be mine as well.

And finally a LEGO dalmation!

Also interesting that they are including what appears to be game unlockables for LEGO City Stories for the WiiU with the high-speed chase set. I wonder if more are to come?

Unfortunately the new Ninjago villains look much less interesting than the reptilian ones which I liked to collect.

I also think the recent/upcoming City sets could use a bit more variety - there's only so many firetrucks and police cars I'd like to get. I did like the series of vehicles from a while ago such as the camper, ambulance, garbage truck, etc. More varying professions/locations would be nice, like a gas station, ice cream vendor, park, school, etc.

For how long are they going to release new star wars sets? Let them die already and move on. I don't care about ucs star wars but I would kill for another set of ucs. Like lotr or the hobbit.

Personally there is still a lot to mine in the SW universe. I would love to see something in the vein of a Lego modular of the cantina or Cloud City.

And a zoo!

There are many more City sets to come in 2013. This initial wave is also supposed to include a Tanker Truck, Cement Mixer Truck and Flatbed Truck, and then there will be probably another 15 sets for the summer wave. Larger sets are more frequent in summer and we are due for a new gas station at least.

Sounds good!

Count me in for that museum hiest set. The rest, not so much.

Fed up of the continual police/fire year-on-year releases.

Amen to that. I was looking back a few years to the Coast Guard theme that LEGO did, and they look fantastic! Expensive to buy now though. Why not revisit that then police/fire over and over again?

Yep, I started giving lego city sets to my sisters a few years back but it seems everything nowdays is just police/firemen cars. I refuse to buy a friends set! >:(

I like how non-LEGO building block manufacturers fill certain niches LEGO doesn't fill (like military vehicles), but this thing could get you shot at in certain neighborhoods :)

Well it wasn't that bad since most Lego builds are pretty enjoyable. There were a couple of things that were annoying though:

- The 1x1 tiles for the kitchen are hard to get on straight. Mine came out slightly crooked the first time until I manually pushed them straight.

- The bottom is not a base plate so you end up with a few separate pieces that can come loose during the build process. It was even worse for me since I was building on my bed which isn't a surface you can push down on properly. I had to tighten the mid section several times as they kept coming loose everything I pressed hard.

- The roof is a little bit tricky to get on properly and have the potential to break the whole build (if you're really rough).

There's also a few too many loose pieces for my liking. The toys up stairs are loose and the chair next to the fire place is also not fixated by any studs.

The price (USD) and piece count for the Hobbit sets is being reported as:

79000 Riddles for the Ring 105pcs; $9.99
79001 Escape from Mirkwood Spiders 298pcs; $29.99
79002 Attack of the Wargs 400pcs; $49.99
79010 The Goblin King Battle 841pcs; $99.99

Will update with the other 2 sets once information is available.

I'm wondering if anyone has tried what I'm thinking of doing. There is a particular brick that I need for an MOC that is not available from the PAB section of LEGO's website. The only way that I can get it is through Bricklink. Unfortunately, the cost per-brick is usually around $0.50-$1.00 and I need almost 400 of these pieces! I am currently building the B-wing, and I noticed that this set has 4 of these bricks. So I'm confused as to why I can't buy this piece on LEGO's website even though it's a piece that's in a current set. So what I'm thinking about doing is just phoning LEGO and talking to someone directly about the possibility of special ordering a bunch of these bricks because they obviously have some inventory, even if they don't actually currently produce any new pieces. Has anybody ever done this? Here's the piece that I'm talking about (I need it in black):

As a side note, I just finished assembling the cockpit of the B-wing and... HOLY... SHIT. I think the B-wing cockpit just may give the Fire Brigade 2nd Floor a run for its money in terms of sheer awesomeness.

Does the B-Wing cockpit include hot dogs and a ping pong table? If not, then Fire Brigade still wins. :)

Can't wait to get the B-Wing in a few months. So excited!

Haha! You're going to LOVE the B-wing. There is a large variety of pieces, only a few easy-to-apply orange-dot stickers and SNOT coming out yer nose! The cockpit perfectly fits a seated mini-fig, so I think I'm going to borrow Porkins from the sex-wing and stick him in the B-wing. And nothing's stopping me from sticking a hot dog wiener in one of his hands. It IS Porkins after all. And just like the SSD, this thing is SOLID. It doesn't feel flimsy at all. I'll see if I can take some decent pics when I'm done with some close-ups of some of the finer details of the set.
