I was super excited for the TMNT sets but the turtle van and the sewer race look really meh.

Donatello still isn't in a revealed set yet. Cmon Technodrome.

On the topic of Helm's Deep, I am loving this MOD of the set done by Eurolock on Eurobricks.

Yes. "Toss me!"

I understand they had to make some compromise to keep piece count and cost down but they really should have kept the proper entry into the Hornburg and not stick the interior part out in the courtyard.

I also got a 10% off coupin from Lego, of course it arrives a few days after I buy the haunted house.

Oh well, I'll probably use it and my VIP points to get Grand Emporium.

No coupon here (though I'd love one, it would almost take off the Canada Lego tax).

I also feel weird - I find the TMNT sets, including most of the minifigs, hideous. Makes me feel old and jaded.

Silly 10% coupon. I got mine as well. I'm unsure how to use it, though. I want Tower Bridge, Pet Shop, and Town Hall. Hmm...

Very nice!

I should have Helm's Deep, Haunted House, Winter Post Office, and Winter Bakery by early next week.

I'm planning to combine some LOTR sets into a 32x32 modular, and the same with the Haunted House. I'll probably use parts from the Vampyre Castle for both.

I'm really sad that I didn't get a 10% coupon in my catalog. Is it normal to sometimes get a coupon and then sometimes not when the catalog arrives?

My buddy recently bough pretty much all of the Monster Fighters to put up for Halloween. I helped him put together a few and grabbed one for myself that night. I hadn't put together any Legos in yeeeeearrrrs. So I picked up a firefighter guy on a fourwheeler. Also grabbed one of those mini figures today. I got a shakespeare guy with a skull. Pretty cool. That's totally got me wanting to put together something big, though. I'm probably going to snag a Christmas village at the end of the month.

I will skip the TMNT sets alltogether. They really look like shit.
Too bad, I liked the Turtle minifigs and Shredder.

I will too. I was hoping they at least put out some classic TMNT stuff, but the new show probably prevents that from happening. I would pay anything for a VW van set quality treatment of the classic cartoon turtle van.

They might try to blow out the remaining stock on Brick Friday, but yes I don't see it making 2013.

Was the Death Star in the catalog, PhoncipleBone? That one is the enigma.

Wow, it will be 4.5 years this Christmas since that set was released.

As if thousands of LEGO speculators suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced
They still haven't found the thermal exhaust port.

As for the Imperial Shuttle, the time is now for people to pounce. Such a magnificent set to display.

It wasn't really UCS so it had a larger production run and being so expensive it would take longer to sell through I guess.

Discovered during my browsing S@H tonight - the Grand Emporium is currently sold out and is not listed on the site, unless you search for it specifically.

Regarding the turtles:
Why did they replaced the nunchaku with some kind of flail? Iirc they had a Bo, katana, sai?(the forky things) And a nunchaku.
Is it a problem with Britain? Since certain eastern weapons are banned?

It's added to his weaponry in the Nick cartoon. It's a Kusarigama and it looks a lot more dangerous than nunchaku, so I doubt it has to do with any bannings of weapons ;) (he also still uses his nunchaku iirc)

Having a look on Bricklink for a bundle of pieces to make an army of Daleks (using PhoncipleBone's reverse-engineered one from a few pages back) but I can't for the life of me identify the "nozzle" piece.

Any ideas?

Gotcha! I'd been scouring through Bricklink and couldn't find anything - had it locked in my head as "nozzle" and hadn't even thought to look for "tap" instead.

One step closer to Skaro!

EDIT:

...and thanks, FliXFantatier!

I have a more important question: did you get your hat back?
Sorry, the avatar and the book it is from is awesome.

Hey guys! I'm taking a break from my usual LEGO posts to show you something cool.

I made a special post for the Skylanders Giants Mega Bloks sets in the Skylanders Giants OT. It shows and explains every set coming out and where to find them. (Almost like a mini OT!)

I mostly made it because the four main sets are on Amazon right now.

Pardon the advertisement, but I thought you guys would like to see that the new Skylanders sets aren't the usual cheaper Mega Bloks quality.

I'm truly amazed how much Skylanders has taken off. Do the Megabloks work like the regular figures and allow the connection to the games? If I was still a kid, I would be eating that shit up.

I HAVE SEEN MY HAT!

Love it too - I read it to my daughters regularly, and they squeal with delight every time we get to that page. Don't think they've quite figured out what happens to the rabbit at the end, but they know the bear's done something wrong when I read his dialogue in a quick, guilty voice ;-)

His new book is out now as well. "This is Not My Hat." The author has a thing for hats and smaller animals stealing them from larger ones. It is cute, but nowhere near as great as "I Want my Hat Back." I flipped through "I Want my Hat Back" at the bookstore one day while walking around and fell in love with it. Not only was the art hilarious, but the ending to it is so twisted. Best part is the two page spread of the bear and rabbit staring at each other.

Anyone else see this?

So, that is where you come in!
An invitation to your imagination
We would like to invite you to
pitch your great idea for a big
story or strong products for 7-9
year old boys.
Use your own fantasy and not build
on established universes (like
Star Wars, Harry Potter, etc.)
Things to consider…
The following questions should be
answered in words and/or images:
What is the world?
Who are the good guys?
Who are the bad guys?
Why do they fight?
What do the models look like?
What to submit?
As a minimum, please use the template to answer the
following points:
• A short and catchy headline/theme name
• 50-100 words story premise.
• A list of the main trigger points in the story – what makes it
exciting for the boys?
• Fill out the theme template in words or images

I was considering submitting my Mech "Job Bots" as a theme, though it needs a better name.

Heh, that's the part where I ad-lib for the kids:

"...and the bear looked at the rabbit, and the rabbit looked at the bear. Bear, rabbit, rabbit, bear, bear, rabbit... until..."

Will have to have a look for his new book - had a quick squizz online and I'm not sure fish and other sealife are quite as cute, but I love his artstyle and my girls enjoy the hat thievery :-)

Had a look through your MOCs - wow! - and wondered whether something like "Rescue Robos" or "Rescue Robots" would work? Bit plain though, and it doesn't cover ALA-N (though a bit of adjustment to his "story" could have him as a space rescue droid, built for orbital and deep-space rescue.

If you were going to do it, I'd suggest a "Thunderbirds" approach. Each "Job Bot" would have a name (which you have already) and a unique minifigure companion, with their own speciality. It gives huge room for expansion - you've got MA-X, EARL, FRANK and ALA-N for medical, police, fire and space, but you could also add new 'bots. SAM-4 (Submarine & Aquatic Model-4, built for diving and ocean recovery) for example (crappy name off the top of my head :-) )

The big robo would be the equivalent of one of the larger Atlantis/Dino/whatever sets, and you could offer up smaller "support robot" sets with matching mini-robots (or mini-remote vehicles?) as the equivalent of the small 80-odd piece sets.

The only stumbling block is that the LEGO folks might be looking for antagonists, but you could consider the "Job Bots" having evil counterparts, dedicated to creating havoc that they have to clean up? You could go literal and have a counterpart to FRANK who would be a firebug, or you could go a bit wilder and look at them as just big, destructive droids with unique looks.

Yeah I was thinking something with companion minifigures of some sort, wasn't sure whether it was drivers\remote controllers or handlers. The idea behind the bots originally was that they are mech recreations of classic minifigures from when I was a child (82-91), City\System mainly, Policeman, Doctor, Fireman, Astronaut (and my next one when I ever get around to doing it would be Construction bot) The bots would go places and do tasks humans couldn't because they were too dangerous.

I like the idea of the companion minifigs being a recreation of those classic minifigs in modern form, much like the recent pirate minifig in series 8 is a modernised version of the classic 80s pirates.

As for villians to be honest I think it's poor form on Legos part to insist that a villainous faction is required (from what I can tell it's not compulsory)

I *really* like the idea of bringing back those older minifigures, both as robot recreations like you have, and as a modernised minifig to accompany those robots.

I'm not keen on having villains for everything either, and I think that the idea of the robots going in to deal with natural disasters or similar things that humans couldn't works on its own, without the need for antagonists causing those events.

Definitely think there's mileage in the idea of the robots as a loose grouping of rescue 'bots in the "Thunderbirds" vein, especially with the great character you've given them (FRANK especially!).
