You realize if you did, you'd have to divulge to final cost to us, right? :)

it's more the hours involved with ordering the parts from 20+ different sellers off bricklink and keeping inventory of the purchases than the cost of the pieces. I'll come in under $600 with minimum color substitutions to internal pieces that will never be seen.

After vowing I was done buying until March when I go after the two pirates ships I want I just left the mall with the creator light house!.. soooo weak! :(

Couple of questions:

I live in CT, which has no Lego stores. Will Lego.com charge me tax?
Does Lego.com charge for shipping on something huge like the SSD?
Are there any good but inexpensive sets that come with the brick separator?

Don't have access to my good camera so this will have to do.

Sorting... Only the big pieces though. Small pieces stay in the bags until needed

Those are just the "for show" pictures though. Time to get my hands dirty

Couple of questions:

Looks like the current/new brick separator is included in 7 sets: 3 "fun with bricks" sets, 3 Batman sets, and the Mini Modulars. Cheapest sets in the lot are the fun with bricks sets ($14.99 for 4626 Farm Brick Box or 4625 Pink Brick Box, $29.99 for 4635 Fun With Vehicles). The vehicles set looks decent if you like the small creator stuff. The two $14.99 boxes are pretty simplistic but not a bad price if you just want some basic 2x4/2x2 bricks in basic colors. The cheapest Batman set that comes with it is $39.99 - 6857 Dynamic Duo Funhouse Escape, a Toys R Us/Lego.com exclusive - I know it's been a popular set, but I have only seen pics. The separator itself is $2.49 on Lego.com so that's also an option as well.

I went to TRU during lunch today and passed on everything as well. The only thing I really wanted was the Fire Brigade which of course wasn't in stock. Guess I will be buying one during the double VIP points starting next week. On a side note man TRU sure feels depressing these days. I'll admit I haven't been in one in long time but they just seem run down now. As a kid I used to love going to them!

Yeah, it's pretty depressing. The TRU that was always close to me never even did the full renovation most went through over a decade ago. It went all blue but only got half a red bar across. Looked pretty ugly. :/

And as empty as it always was, I'm sad that it finally "moved". I can't figure out where they moved to but they always said they weren't closing just relocating. Now the closet one to me is 20 minutes away.

Care to explain? A lot of reviews say its very repetitive.

I didn't find it that repetitive other that the two main top panels, which are both very quick builds. There's some tiny parts that get repeated a few times for the top detail section. Other than that it's a very interesting build. The engine modules are a lot of fun, and it's interesting to see how the scaffolding inside comes together to hold the thing together.

I can see some complaints of repetitiveness on its own, but the Shuttle is far more guilty of it. The most enjoyable part of the shuttle is the body. The two wings are long, complicated, and repetitive builds, and the top fin goes together in a similar way so it's almost like building the same thing 3 times.

Yea finally got my Imperial Shuttle today

PURE SEX! Seriously. The set is pure sex in Lego form.

fuuuu, you guys are making me want to buy the Shuttle.

You want it, dont you? The hate is swelling in you now. The set is unarmed. Take up your wallet and order the set with all your hatred for us building it and posting about it and your journey towards the Dark Side will be complete!

Ok, to all you Super Star Destroyer owners:

I am trying to figure out a place to put the set IF I order it. (And after the sexiness of the Imperial Shuttle, that is a big possibility now). I know the SSD is about 50" long, but how tall is it when on the stand?
What is the measurement from the end of each stand to the end of the rear one?

I have some 3ft bookcases with adjustable shelves. I am looking to raise the top shelf up enough to put the SSD on it, but only if the stands will fit within the 36" area of the shelf. I expect the SSD to come up over the top of the bookcase (no top to it) IF I do order it.

Thank you. And thanks for the links to the sets that come with brick separators. I want to order a few (had some, but those must be among the missing sets I cannot find from my youth), but if I can get some cheap sets with bricks and the tool I will go for that.

EDIT: Actually, I probably wont be going for the SSD. I was just commenting to my wife how much I want it and I think she would kill me if I ordered it. Perhaps let time go by and use birthday money this summer for it. Or beg for it for Christmas.

It's just under 10" tall on the stand to the highest point.

It's just a bit over 19" long from tip to tip on the stands.

Hmmm. Tempting me more now. I keep doing the flip flop between iPad 3 and SSD. My wife says it is my money I can do what I want, but she does actively comment about how expensive the SSD is and how huge it is. But putting it on top of a bookshelf like the one in the background here:

TG1HSl.jpg

That would be out of the way, but still sexy to look at.

But with getting an iPad 3, my wife would inherit my iPad1. So she wins on that one (well we both do), but with the SSD I get an obscenely expensive (and awesome) toy.

I'm actually passing on iPad 3 (I have a 2) largely because I want to grab a nice Lego set instead, haha. My fiancé wants me to get it so she can take my iPad 2, but I don't see it happening, haha.

Still have a 32GB iPad 1, but have had an upgrade itch for a while. Of course, all I use it for is couch web browsing and watching video while on break at work or lying in bed. For that it works fine with the occasional (well, many) Safari crashes on sites. And I know an iPad 3 would be MUCH faster for all of it. Of course, this one still suits my needs. But the Lego sets are just dressing.

EDIT: And OOOOKAY. Yeah. My wife basically said I would die if I got the SSD now. Yeah. Best to let time pass and get it with birthday funds. Two massive lego sets (and all my sorting this past month) maybe has he Lego'd out.

Yeah, this is why I buy one large set a month. Double VIP month means buy one set for $150, get $15 in VIP credit, haha.

I have the bug again thanks to this thread! I started slow with the new mini scale Tie Interceptor and I picked this up today!

I also have my eye on that light house!

The SSD came out in August of last year. It's got some shelf life in her and that leaves plenty of opportunity for sales and awesome discounts. Give it time!

Looking at the Imperial Shuttle, I am realizing that it has tons of pieces for making a fantastic castle MOC. Lots of tall wall type pieces and lots of slope pieces.

Mix it with all the grey I have. Or an awesome (and beyond my ability and brick inventory) Minas Tirith MOC.

Ah, that's fair. That would be a nutty MOC, ha.

Also, it would be nice if something like the SSD went on sale, but I don't even remember the Death Star ever going on sale, and that's been around for a good chunk longer.

Probably great for a more, uh...Pristine castle I would imagine? Lots of white/marble like effects!

So the Imperial Shuttle was an anomaly then. And thinking about it, it would be easier to pass the Falcon past the wife than the SSD.

To my understanding, yes. There may be some data that suggests otherwise, but between the shuttle and the Tower Bridge, I've never seen any other huge sets go on sale like that.

waiting makes sense. Ipad 3 will be a nice bump from your ipad 1, your wife gets something nice, and you have something to look forward to for summer/christmas

Just needs willpower :)

I also have my eye on that light house!

Got the same one from my son 2 weeks ago.
It is a simple build but the result is good.
And my son loves to play with it.

Good price value.

To Gary, Norm, Will & everyone in this thread, I hate/love you guys. I never looked at Lego before until the Bricked podcasts & the Lego threads. This is my first buy towards my downward spiral into Lego heaven/hell.

Creator sets are a great way to get back into Lego. Enjoy :)

Stopped by Toys r Us and passed on everything. Even with buy 1 get 1 half off, I would only save a couple bucks compared to Amazon on the creator or city sets. I didn't feel like rewarding that. The prices on the Star Wars sets were borderline insulting. I think it was $95 for Slave 1.

I was at TRU last night and was very tempted to pick up http://www.brickset.com/detail/?set=9397-1 as they had a few of them at $150. I figured I would sell the other one in order to get one at half price. Unfortunately I didnt pull the trigger.

So I'm a lucky boy...

Wife found 7kg of LEGO in a charity shop here in the UK. I have spent the last three nights sorting it.

It's a really curious load of stuff. There are sets from 2000/2001, and some old 70s windows. But most of it stems from mid-2000s stuff. So a load of Bionicles junk no good for MOCing that I will just sell on. And A LOT of wheels, and loads of technic, so lots of Racers fodder.

But, cross-referencing with Peeron and Brickset at there's bits from rarer sets in here - such as some of the later Indiana ones ones, and - best of all - clearly some dismantled early LEGO Batman sets, including the first Batmobile. There's a TON of black as the pic shows. Might have to go back to my plan of MOCing a giant Batcave.

When I was a kid, I loved spaceship legos (yes, legos, deal with it). I remember I got this for my birthday:

lego-system-6979-ufo-building-blocks-wt-instructions_5596958.jpg

$80, which I thought was insane at the time, but I've seen a lot worse recently. I got a few more from that same set. Not my pic, but I had some of these.

UFO.jpg

My spoiled cousin had the knight set but barely played with them. THE FOOL.

I always wanted one of those fiber optic sets. Awesome :)

I went hunting today despite my headache...No luck finding any good sales. :( Lame

So after coming home to find pieces of our X-Wing in the couch and under the radiator, I've decided my two-year old is just a bit too young for some of these sets with easily rippable parts. He's fine if I'm playing with him but he wants to build and play when I'm not around.
To fix this I just ordered some more Duplo blocks from Amazon and that blue Creator car for myself!
