You guys (particularly in the USA) have it lucky - here in NZ prices are really fucking expensive (retail on the X-Wing is NZ$129, the US price converted is NZ$73 and then to top it off we get hardly any of the "special" sets, like Architecture or the big Star Wars sets.

So very, very jealous :(

Ugh. I did it. I ordered Tower Bridge. I almost used my VIP points from Town Hall to get a discount, but I think saving up for a huge discount off a set later this year will feel much better.

My wife will be only slightly mad. But she knows she is to blame for me ordering it.

I love your repeated cycles of emotion every time you make a purchase.

Something like: curiosity>apprehension>guilt>shame>denial>rationalization>happiness

Just FYI - I think you can only use $25 a time. :P

Online? I just used $100 in VIP bucks at the LEGO store last weekend.

If that is the case, I will save up for next time I head to NYC. Just blow all the points there.

EDIT: Actually, looking on the website, it doesn't say anywhere that there is a limit on how much to redeem at any one time.

Wife came back from the mall in Raleigh and stopped by the Lego store..haha..So cool.

Ah, OK - good! Online, you MAY have a limit. It seems to just give me the option to redeem $25 no matter how many I have. I would probably check though, just in case! It could be something wonky going on on my end!

Which mall? Triangle Town Center or Crabtree? I didn't know there was a Lego store there. Unless it got added after I left NC in 2008. I will have to stop by there next trip I take to see the family.

The guy at the LEGO store told me today that I shouldn't use the VIP points for my purchase during double points cause I would end up losing out on points. The way he explained it was since I was buying the Imperial Shuttle for 260 I would get 520 points, but if I used the points I had to take the price down to 230 I would only get 460 points. So it's best to save your VIP points until after double points is over to not lose out on points. I guess it only really matters if you are making a big purchase, but still, something to consider.

Ah, good show. Thank you.

Yeah, sort of common sense I would think. :) Not insulting or anything, but double VIP is quite significant on larger purchases by default. I'm using all my accrued points with my 10% off after double VIP ends to grab Pet Shop or Town Hall.

E: I CAN apply all my VIP points to a purchase! I think I tried to do it before points posted or something, haha. I feel duuuuuumb.

After a few months pass, I plan on using my VIP points from Town Hall and Tower Bridge towards Grand Emporium and/or Pet Shop.

Of course, the UCS B-Wing is coming. That thing better deliver, because the B-Wing is the most underrated yet most unique looking of the Rebel Alliance ships in Star Wars. That one will probably have a really interesting stand (most likely stands) to use as a display due to the odd design of the ship.

It sort of looks like the Tantive IV with a perpendicular wing/hull section. Kind of neat, haha. I hope (for those Star Wars fans out there) that it delivers better than I felt the R2-D2 model UCS did. :-X

The R2 is incredible looking until you get to the head. All the little details and odd building techniques visible in the video make it look like an awesome build. Especially since you have to make it hollow to make room for the third leg. But the head is just...yeah....

And for the B-Wing:

Those two sets are ugly as sin. Of course, many of the early Star Wars sets were ugly. But I have high hopes for the UCS version. After the Imperial Shuttle and how good the SSD looks, and the new TIE Fighter and X-Wing models, Star Wars is in good hands.

I do like this micro version:

@PhoncipleBone Ah, OK. Thanks! I've said it before - Star Wars just doesn't do it for me, but I can see where fans would LOVE a remake of that ship in the same notion as the SSD, Millennium Falcon, etc.

@sharbhund Why on EARTH are those so expensive? Also, I still hate the mask. :|

Finished the Mini-Modulars, like has been said, a lot of interesting building there.

And my first ever brick separator.... how did I ever survive without one of these things?

Feel better? :)

Got the last Fire Brigade at my Lego store...they had 3 or 4 just a few days ago! I've never seen huge sets go this fast. They're down to their last Town Hall too. I guess people are really taking advantage of double VIP points.

I really wanted to get Pet Shop, I think it's the coolest modular by far. But.....I don't want to miss out on Fire Brigade before it goes OOP, and I just know I'm going to get them all now. I'm really pissed I missed the last few modulars, especially Green Grocer.

Congrats on Fire Brigade. That was my first modular and I must have all of them now. Well, all the ones in print and to come. I ain't paying those crazy prices for the old ones.

Thanks! My first modular too. Which ones do you have now?

Going to make some tea, put on some HIMYM, and get to work :D

Only Fire Brigade. Ordered it about a week and half ago. Town Hall is in transit though. I was going to get Grand Emporium at first, but Town Hall has that new sheen. But Fire Brigade was such an awesome build I am addicted. Check my pics and review a few pages back. Or don't. Actually, the less you know about the build the better.

And to Tower Bridge owners: are the bags numbered in it? I am planning my build for it. Thinking of presorting pieces and building both towers simultaneously. Maybe even see if I can convince my wife to build with me. Both of us building a tower at the same time could be lots of fun.

EDIT: And to all new Fire Brigade owners: second floor is amazing to put together. It is all about the little touches in it. Then once you hit the roof and make the numbers on the front of the building. Really, it is all about the little touches.

Nice. I think I'll get them in order, Grand Emporium next. I need to space them out (broke) and don't want the next one to go OOP.

Why are there so many bags? O.O You'd think they could at least put all the fire truck parts in one bag instead of spreading them out everywhere.

Dont listen to all those glorious, masochistic madmen that tell you to dump all bags together and build from there. Just make piles per bag. It keeps it somewhat organized, but you still have to hunt for pieces.

Also, did you make sure your Fire Brigade was from the lot number with missing bags? If the tape on the bag says 39R1, then you have a missing bag from the ground floor. If it says anything else, you are gold.

EDIT: I added in all my pending sets into Brickset. Once Town Hall and Tower Bridge show up, my official collection (well, some sets I might be forgetting and some missing) will be at 24103 pieces. Wanna know what frightens me? Of those 24103 pieces, only 10105 of them were from sets I owned before January of this year. Yeah...I went a little crazy compensating for lost time.

I didn't check beforehand...I think it says 50R1. I'm just going to dump everything from 1 into a pile, and everything from 2 into a pile.

Also I didn't know you could do that with Brickset. Definitely need to check that one sometime.

Yeah, have fun with that. So many small pieces... (I am in the minority in this thread I think)

Very nice. We have a great place to put ours but it will mean dismantling the imperial shuttle, so I'll wait as long as possible before building
if you use your points to get a discount, do you still earn double points?

Got my bonus from work today and usually I get to spend 10% on something frivolous. On the last day of double points and 10% off ;)

Book 1: main tower structure
Book 2: raising bridge
Book 3: mini vehicles and top girders
Book 4: "X2 lol"

Not book, bags. I see the books are numbered but are the bags?

sorry, don't know - was too busy being a smart-arse. Not opening the box yet until I'm ready to build

edit: looks like bags aren't numbered!

Does look like they are fairly organised though - bags of cheese slopes and windows etc, so shouldn't be that difficult a build

edit 2: Instructions look fairly ok for a pair build, but you'd need to build in parallel - lots of modules with '2x', and inbetween some integration steps to build them into the main model. So you can't eg hand book 3 off to someone else to build a different floor, like you can with the modulars

you know how everyone has vague daydreams of what they might do if they won the lotto? lately mine starts with a mass order or lego and locking myself away for a few weeks, that's about as far as it gets...

Lol... yeah I would do the same hahaha.

And buy a new house with one huuuge room just for lego. With some huge table in the centre where I'd built an entire city with all the modulars, roads etc.

I used to want a cinema room. Now I need a man basement with an entire wall for displaying lego and proper organisation. I'd pay Lego to send someone over from Denmark to come and advise me on storage.

Plus I'd immediately buy all the sets from my youth and desired OOP sets like green grocer and UCS Falcon in mint condition. Actually I'd buy two - one to build and one for my lego vault :)

That's how I convince my fiance that it's cool I spend this much on Lego. :) Our kids will pretty much have the coolest dad ever.

You need to add one thing to really be the coolest dad ever. When they are a little older and grow out of lego - KEEP IT. Look at this thread. So many of our parents passed it on to friends/relatives, or sold it for cheap. Pack it up and store it safe. When they get kids of their own, or start to reminisce about lego, you have it all there and the memories will come flooding back.

cheers. Never bought lego from a supermarket before - is that in big stores or online?

Doesn't seem to be online but it's one of their 'seasonal' lines so it might not have updated yet. I got mine in-store at a medium sized branch. There are some sets on clearance online though, including the Creator Red Speedster. Think I'll grab it to go with the blue one.

yup walls filled with storage drawers, 1 wall open with a big tv\speakers\hooked up to a PC with wireless keyboard and mouse to keep me entertained\look up reference for MOCs

and a massive table in the middle but it's actually made of several smaller tables on wheels so I can get in access any part of my lego city in the middle :P

Oh yeah, for sure. I plan to hold onto these things largely for that reason. :)
