Are all the people in this thread millionaires by the way? Or do you guys simply have a rather large budget for LEGO (instead of a holiday for instance)

Wondering the same thing... if i were a millionaire i'd buy a lot of Legos, as it is i really cannot buy them, i'll leave money meant for entertaiment for books and video games.

If she likes old VW then the van is perfect. It's a gorgeous build that is fun to build and great to display.

Modulars are cool too, but it sounds like the camper would be more suitable.
My main concern was that it might be too similar and that it might be more fun to build something different. It's a bit of a surprise so I can't even ask.

Here's the entire series 7 figures on display. My favorite is Red Riding Hood.

So, I picked up a few of these today and I have to ask: Does anyone know if they usually come with different heads in some packages? I ask because the faces on 3 of mine (the Viking woman, stunt/motorcycle guy, and evil space dude are different than both the instructions and the figs in this picture. For example, my Viking woman is singing, the stunt guy looks terrified, and the evil space marine has no orange visor, a silver eyepiece decal and an open mouth.

Heads you got weren't double sided? My space marine has two faces, just flip the head around.

Since this video game generation has winded down, I've been using my disposable cash for Lego instead.

It's a TRAP!

What are the prices for LEGO like in Holland, compared to the USA?

It seems that a set which is 15 dollar in Europe will be 15 euro. So it's about the same... however it seems you Yanks seem to have much more special offers from other retailers.
In Holland it is hard to find cheap sets...they are often the same price at all shops.

Yeah, lots of discounts here if you know where to look. I'm heading out tomorrow for a Walmart/Target/Kmart expedition to see if I can snag some 50% off Star Wars kits. That's how I get many of my sets

I'll get the new spidey set but spider-man is one of the worst characters to translate to lego IMO. hard to convey his abilities in lego form. doc oc barely works for me too. still i must own every marvel lego set :)

Here is a comparison of all the spider-man lego models to-date, including the new 2012 (click the arrow to expand or it cuts one off at the end):

Being single means plenty of extra income!

Anyways, I opted to buy the Weathertop set, the Gandalf set and the Uruk-Hai Army set. I should be able to get the remaining sets soon...then Monster Fighters and the Summer House will be next! And maybe some of the new Friends sets if they're any good.

We do ok. It's a hobby besides games. My wife works in Insurance and I manage people..
My son really got me into it again.

So I picked up 9469 Gandalf Arrives and 9473 The Mines of Moria. I have to say I am liking
these LOTR sets so far. Lots of nice new blocks. I DO how ever hate how much Lego is going
with stickers now. The Mines of Moria has a lot and I refuse to put stickers on my Lego but
in not doing so the set looks rather bland. :(

I noticed this with the avengers sets. WAY too many stickers.

I just realized that my Grand Emporium will most likely be delivered Monday, and I work until 10. Dammit. And I have to be back in at 8 Tuesday. URGH! Of course, I will probably still stay up late and build some of it.

EDIT: Updated my sets on Brickset with what I got this past week and the Grand Emporium on the way. Sitting at a collection of 28678 bricks. About half of that is from this year alone. Nuts.

So, I'm thinking of doing some serious water for a serious MOC I want to make. I've been looking at a bunch of different stuff for inspiration, as I was undecided if I wanted to do SNOT water or water with some translucent plates and tiles. I decided I liked translucent clear tiles over blue plates, or translucent blue plates and tiles more than SNOT water... But damn if transparent tiles, especially clear ones, aren't expensive!! Any suggestions on sets where I can score a bunch of them? Bricklink prices for these are pretty insane. Like 50 cents for a 1x1 transparent tile.

Fallingwater Architecture set.

PAB on the LEGO site. 1x1 are $0.10 in 5 transparent colors. Mixing trans-clear (3000840) and trans-blue (4266417) might lead to a nice effect.

I think many are used to thinking of Bricklink for things that they overlook Lego.com direct as a source for stuff.

However, if you want to get sets that come with stuff:
Fallingwater has 52 1x2 flat clear plates, and 44 1x2 regular clear plates.
Robie House has 245 1x1 clear plates.

LOL - gotta love those kinds of sets.

And Christian, if you are near a LEGO store, you might want to check on their PAB selection - they may currently have what you are looking for, saving you the cost of shipping.

Well, it's still a VW. But the model looks completely different and if she likes VWs at all, she will LOVE the camper. I figure it's a safer bet than a building, unless she's mentioned them before or expressed an interest

Got my mini Batmobile. Once again I just got the one.

Once tempted to get two for the wheels to build this, but seeing as they cost around 1p each and I need to buy the rest of the pieces I might require them to meet the minimum order.

So I got it.
Reduced from 260€ to 200€
And because of a small rip on the side of the box I got another 10€ off.
Not a bad deal overall.

Still can't decide wether to build it or keep it unopened for resale in a year or two...

I don't have a LEGO store within a five-hour drive, unfortunately. And I checked LEGO.com PAB, but I searched bricks by colors, so that might be why I didn't find the translucent tiles. I guess I have to check by type. And Falling Water might not be a bad idea. Thanks!
