Goddamnit! I just want some Aussie vendors to stock the B-Wing already. I need to know what I'm working with cost-wise, y'all. The wallet needs some time to prep.

I was in the US yesterday and stopped by a Target. I had to ask an employee, and he discovered that there were 50+ in the back room (none on the floor). I was really pleased to pick up three.

I wonder what it is with Lego and stupid retail people, as I've seen the same with the collectible minifigs. Target had a whole box that never got put out, and all the Walmarts around here do it too.

I shouldn't have to go ask an employee to check in the back for something.

Any idea on what kind of sales to expect on black Friday? I'm currently debating picking up the Imperial Shuttle for $213 on Amazon, but if there's a chance it's going to drop to a crazy price as LEGO clears out their stocks, I will just hold off and pick up the Haunted House to finish up my Halloween display instead.

oh who am I kidding, I'm getting the Haunted House either way

Some praise for these employees at lego stores. So i went to the legostore yesterday. Me and my wife decided to get a pick-a-brick large cup. The employees are so helpful. Not only did they give us advice on how to fit the most bricks but even warned us when we weren't getting bang for our buck by going with too many 1x1 or 1x2 bricks. We must of stayed there for an hour, it was a bummer that the store didn't have as many black and grey pieces as I wanted but they made sure we got over 300 pieces in that little cup and filled the spaces with long planks, steering wheels and tires. They have some great workers at these stores. They kind of know us already, I mean we buy a lot of items, not expensive items mind you but a lot of the 300 piece range sets. So I asked if they carried Thor in polybags because I couldn't find him at Toys R us/Target and was amazed. They opened this huge tub full of every minifigure imaginable, i guess this is what they use for the club meetings for builds. I mean I saw star wars, lord of the rings, old batmans, i mean everything. Then they found Thor, with hammer, with cape and even Bane and Iron Man and just handed them to me and said, "Is this for your son? Hope he likes those".

We were happy to say the least. Now why can't other stores be like this?

I wholeheartedly concur with this sentiment. Every time that my family has been to the LEGO store at Sherway Gardens Mall in Toronto, they have been amazing. They are always friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They go out of their way to make you feel welcome in the store.

My local lego store is like this. They even stayed open past their close time to process our sales because we got there just a minute before they officially closed. Coolest store people I have ever run across.

Yep-absolutely. They are great.

The LEGO store has always had some of the most incredible customer service. I have a feeling it has something to do with the way they treat their employees. Also, I imagine dealing with adults who love toys and little kids all day makes their job a blast. If I could make what I make now as engineer working at or owning/managing a LEGO store, I would do so in a heartbeat.

This will sound odd, but having been a retail slave for over 15 years now, I think something that is to Lego's benefit is being privately owned. They are simply focused on delivering a good product and having great service, and all without having to appease shareholders or implement their ideas. If they went public, there would probably be a huge influx of new stores (positive impact), but also a focus on upselling and shaving costs to appease stock holders.
Of course they are wanting to keep costs down and be profitable now, but since they only have to answer to themselves, it helps to simplify things.

Perhaps I am just burned out from over a decade in the retail machine.

However, if they do open a store in CT, I would lobby hard to run it. I wonder how they would feel about me lobbying them to open the store now and let me run it in CT. They would probably be like "who is this guy?"

They might say that at first, but then show them this thread.

Have thought about spamming their twitter feed with pictures. Need to get some really nice pictures of my Haunted House set up to show them.

And if only I could show them numbers from my current job at the Lego I sell there. We dont actually get sent much, as I special order things from the warehouse to sell. The issue is once we have it, we are stuck with it if we dont sell it. So I am very cautious about what stuff I order (and what limited number of things I can get for us due to the warehouse availability. Not all sets the company carries are orderable for store stock), but I make sure that that stuff better be gone soon to make room for more new stuff.

Basically we have a very small rotating Lego section on top of the regular stuff they send us because I order it in and hand sell it. I know I hand sold almost all the Monster Fighter stuff (only one Frankenstein set left) over the last few months, while other stores in the area are still sitting on piles they cant sell. I want to take them from them since I know I can move it, but I dont want to be stuck with product forever. We still have Alien Conquest stuff gathering dust, and old Star Wars sets. But damn if I did not order in X-Wings and Falcon's and talk parents into buying them.

Omg, now this thread is getting me to buy books for my son.

My wallet hates you all

I take it you are referring to "I Want My Hat Back." That book really is fantastic. If you want some more fun kids books, the Zorro series by Carter Goodwich is great. I will let this image speak for itself:

Damn you Phoncible! :p

And I dont even have kids! :) But I do enjoy browsing some children's storybooks sometimes. Some very inspired art to see in those, and the Zorro one caught my eye one day.

And of course, for yourself (and kids around 8 or older), I cannot recommend Bone highly enough. Obviously.

And of course, anytime I see quiche anywhere, I think of these guys:

How dare you lambast the beauty of the A-Wing Bone!
The A Wing is a sexy ship. I have talked about how excited I was for the set and hope for an UCS in the future. But that model just shown looks lame and tiny. Disappointing after the great job they did on the TIE, X Wing, and Y Wing this year.

Yeah I agree. Bone I have a question I asked wetwired but he's probably got a real job unlike us. I'm trying to order the pieces for his Black Tumbler, and it's my first time using bricklink. The problem I'm running into is that too many stores don't carry all the pieces needed. And it's almost looking like I'll have to pick a brick from about 8 stores. Is this how bricklink works? I was hoping to order from only 2 stores max. I can only imagine the shipping charges that add up here and there. Or am I doing something wrong? It seems the official lego store doesn't even carry many of the bricks needed for his MOC build.

not all retail companies have to be that way if they have shareholders. Costco treats their employees better than most in big box retail industry and they always tell their shareholders to fuck off if they want them to make the lives of their drones worse for a little more profits.

I know not all public companies are like that. It is just rare it seems. It is cool to hear that about costco though.

New A-Wing is pretty similar to the previous one. Despite not being as detailed as the current X-Wing/Y-Wing/TIE Fighter, I'll still get it since I've always liked the A-Wing's looks and don't mind a cheaper, smaller swishable plane. Plus it has better minifigs. Tho, hmm, flick missiles.

Dear Ghostmind, you're my hero. Thank you for the Star Wars photos.

Hell yeah, the Old Republic battle pack is sweet! Also digging the 2013 box design with Yoda and green highlights.

Because of this thread I decided to pickup some classic Star Wars, grabbed the Xwing and Tie fighter sets, good fun! I had a blast building the Xwing set especially, great engineering. I think the next set I'll pickup is the Millenium Falcon because it's on sale for 120 here. After that what sets do you guys recommend? I'm thinking maybe Slave 1 or Y wing if tru still has it.

Get the Y-wing, such a great looking model. Slave-1 is quite expensive now that it's OOP.

Australians now have free shipping from shop@home until December 8th for orders over $100.

Still probably works out cheaper getting it from overseas though, I was after the HH myself.

That IS a very military-green there... almost looks like you could build a landing craft from that alligator boat... darn it.

I wonder if my son will be into these...

So, I downloaded the brick by brick app on my phone today and began piecing together a Cafe Corner. Got through about half of the manual using pick a brick online. $110 dollars and missing about 30 pieces not available the official website (mostly all the dark blue and dark red pieces). I figured I should use the free shipping and double VIP points while I can.....even though I told my wife I was done buy legos for the year.....SHHHHHHH. I will have to check out brink link for those pieces I can't get on lego.com.

I'm warming up to those bird vehicles. Looks like there's a lion/bigcat-like faction, reptile faction, wolf faction, and 2 bird factions.

We need better pics of the minifigures! They should probably have pretty interesting heads/headgear.

For the Star Wars sets, we are missing pics of the new planets. I'm really looking forward to a new B-wing pilot (and that new A-wing pilot looks great!).

...

sigh

gonna be really poor in 2013.

love the new star wars box design. but lots of clone wars & the old republic sets so i'll be skipping most of them. definitely getting the rancor set and the yoda/walker set. but star wars, man... LEGO has milked that enough, i really wish they'd just let that lapse and move on. I think they've proven in the last few years they have more than enough original ideas to not have to rely on it anymore. My Star Wars fatigue is at a lifetime high, but it's hard to ignore some of the iconic stuff like the oversized rancor minifig

will get the batman/mr. freeze/aquaman set and every spider-man set i can find

chima looks great... i'm warming to it a lot. the minifigs look stylistically unique and unlike anything we have seen. i love the animal theme it has going.

combine this with my already set mind on getting most TMNT, Hobbit/LotR sets... and, well...

basically i want a bit of everything, and that's not good at all.

Does anyone here have a Hulk Minifig they want to trade for the Mini Hulk Minifig? Thought I'd ask before ordering from bricklink. They seem to go for the same amount now.

Is that nick fury in that spiderman set?

I'll probably pick that and the Arctic batman sets up as they look about on par price wise with the avengers jeep and wolverine chopper sets and both come with some cool minifigs.
