Strange that Monster Hunters would be killed so soon and the Dino line, which nobody gave a shit about, would be allowed to continue.

Aaaaanyway:

Got a good deal on the Unimog, greatly looking forward to start my build this weekend.

I just built the Unimog two weeks ago. It was one of the harder technic sets I've ever built, but very fascinating and so much fun. It had a few pieces in it that I've never seen before. I'm in awe of the people who design these technic Lego sets, in horrified awe!

Skipping Baxter Stockman set and Sewer Shell, otherwise probably buying the rest. Only one set with shredder? Pfft.

Actually, probably going to skip the turtle van too, the shitty krang minifig isn't worth the money when you get a real Krang in the 90 piece set.

Turtle Lair, the 90 Piece Krang set, and the shredder bike gets me all 4 turtles, shredder, splinter, and foot soldiers. Don't really care enough for the April/Baxter minfigs to get that set. No other classic enemies equals no buys. Hopefully all three i want will be like $60 or $70 combined.

Only Technic set I have left on my want list as of now. Cannot seem to find a good deal though. :( Hopefully ToysRUs sends me a 20% coupon sometime.

Haunted House is exactly 32 studs wide when done, so in that respect it is the same width as any modular. The issue is that on one side there are bulges from the hinge pieces to make it swing open, and those prevent it from cleanly connecting to the next side. If you build a base for it to stand on that is wider than the house itself, and use that as the connection point, it will connect with other modulars. It will just look odd with all that extra space.

It would be an interesting challenge to build the Haunted House without the hinge, but with the layered floors like other modulars though.

This would be something I would like to try and do. Although I would have to purchase Haunted House first. Wife has cut me off for the year, so my only hope is it doesn't go OOP this year as suggested.

I'm kind of jealous of you fellow LEGO-GAFers who can afford the big cool sets like Haunted House, Modulars, etc. Now that my wife & I pay for daycare, extra cash is tight.

Still tossing around which set I want for Christmas from my wife. Either Bag End or Millenium Falcon. The Falcon seems like it's at the end of it's rope...

Battle of helms deep went straight into the loft and will come out at Christmas as a present to me from Santa :)

Also hid the haunted house in the loft next to all the opened boxes I store up there. Will see if I can leave it until next Halloween now.

You too? :P

I got it, Mines of Moria, Weathertop and several of the Urak Hai wall sets for me from me. Gonna watch the films too- xmas day is LOTR day!

New inside source...
So Monster Fighter's is gone after a few months, but Dino is not discontinued? Doesn't make much sense at all.

EDIT: And you are in Mass as well. Which store? I have yet to make the drive to the closest Mass store from CT.

They will have a new winter village for next year, there is a new one almost every year, only 4 sets so far.....the post office was sold in stores again this year with the New winter cottage, so next year the winter cottage and the new set will probably still be in stores together. As for Dino, there are no new sets coming out, thats pretty much at the end of its run....we dont really get Dino in that often, whatever we have is what we have left. Yes im in Mass.

Thanks for joining in the thread-appreciate the heads up on the Haunted House.

Prepare to be inundated with questions like, "Is Grand Emporium really gone? And when is Winter Village Bakery being discontinued?"

Yes please.

No problem, ill let you guys know everything I know and take pictures of the sets I get to take home and build for the store. The toy store is discontiued so Im guessing the bakery wont be around much longer, Im buying it for myself in a few days with my discount.

Not really. It's the only way we seem to get most of these polybags. Would be nice to have the option of just buying them. Still no sign of the ghost and grandfather clock here.

Also we don't get the same generous deals as America seems to get.

You are compared to us Dutchies. We don't have the deals, nor any of the polybags (only some generic ones at a DIY shop)

I wish I bought more ghosts, I only found 2.

I work at TRU in Canada, sometimes I'm able to buy the bags or just take them (they're pretty uptight about it now though) for the non-purchasable ones.

Was able to buy some Thors and Zombie Car ones.

LEGO Castle theme returning this fall?
~Sets 70400 to 70404 listed in a Netherlands store for August release.

Galaxy Squad not a one-off?
~4 more sets (70706 to 70709) listed for this fall, plus polybag 30230 (Galaxy Walker) this spring.

Series 11 CMF's listed, even though we haven't even got Series 9 yet. Looks like we'll be getting 3 waves of CMF's again in 2013.

Silver and Gold for Series 9 & 10:

Posted this stuff in the pick ups thread, but I thought that I could share it here with my fellow Lego enthusiasts!

Went to a toy show this past weekend not expecting to see much. But I find a few great Lego items there for reasonable prices. I found one table that had some decent boxed sets from early to mid 90's on up. One set in particular he had was a Spyrius set that I had actually been considering at a previous collector oriented show (TFCon) that I passed on, but this one had the box with it. I spoke with the guy a bit and he said he could work with me on the price and so I ended up bringing it home for the price I would have gotten it for at TFCon.

But before I actually bought this set I did a walkthrough of the entire room first. Then I came across this bundle that caught my eye at a different table:

Never seen boxed sets that old before in person. I kept scouring over the boxes, looked through the contents, price seemed surprisingly good. Couldn't find any date information on the boxes at all though. So I figured I would think about it and go back to get the other set in the meantime. Guy working the booth offers to knock a bit off the price, and I was sold.

Great to have this little nugget of vintage Lego history now. I did some searching more about these sets and it comes from a period of time where there are not many clear records kept. The 450 piece set I have found listings stating it is from 1963, and some saying it is 1966. The gear and motor sets are supposedly from 1965.

I haven't actually built anything with these yet. We are expecting kiddo #2 to arrive any day now so I've been a bit preoccupied trying to get stuff done at home first. But wow I was really happy about this find!

Sorry for the long drawn out nonsense. I'll try to work on some builds with this stuff soon!

£69.99 on amazon uk, couldn't refuse at that price. Don't really care about LotR but it'll make a great castle set

Now you're making me feel bad. ;__;

I liked this series as a kid. I had the two robots myself. Something about the old space sets that has been lost over time. While I wasn't into Lego then, I feel the downfall happened in 2001 with the Life on Mars sets. Alien Conquest was pretty good though that wasn't quite a space series.

My grandmother has an old Lego set. While there's no box (the bricks are just kept in a plastic tub) I'm sure it's from a similar time since the bricks are just white and red like the 450 piece set. I suspect hers was originally a house building set due to the assortment of roof and window pieces. I sometimes build things with them because it's fun to be so limited. I believe I posted a few photos in this thread of models built with these bricks. Over time however the pieces have warped and some bricks from that time don't even have the suction cups.

Firstly, please excuse the poor pics - not a great camera, and my only lighting is the daylight lamp I use for painting. Hopefully they're not too bad!

A quick overview of the near-complete plate. Some more landscaping and detail to add still:

The plate without the "scenery" bobbins from the Raptor set (at the front) and the Coelophysis set (tucked away at the back-right) and the tiled "clip" sections exposed:

The smaller additional plate with the rough start of a river section (some tile and trans-blue work to do there) and the Pteranodon tower clipped on:

Close-up of some detail:

...and some more:

...and finally, a good look at the jungle with the Dino team in hot pursuit of a pair of dinosaurs:

100_1354.jpg

Still lots to work on, and I'll add some more photos when I get the Dino base baseplate built and added and the rest of the detail work done, but it's coming together fairly well so far, and I'm looking forward to doing more with my daughter when she gets it at Christmas :-)

Finally the Dino sets put to good use - it looks great! I'm sure she will love it.

Those Spyrius sets were so cool, I loved them as a kid. I'm missing only a few sets from the line including that ship.

I wonder why they're killing Monster Fighters so soon...I thought they could have introduced a few more classic monsters but alas. Haunted House and those Polybags are the only ones I haven't bought yet.

Interesting news! Can't wait for pics!

Thanks - I hope she will! The Dino Defense HQ will be on another 48x48 baseplate connecting to the slope the jeep is driving down, so there should be plenty of playability when the whole thing is done. Landscaping is bloody expensive though!

Where are you buying your pieces from? Have you tried bricklink.com? They have everything and its cheaper then buying from the pick a brick on lego.com

Yeah, I've been buying from Bricklink. Prices are far better, but some of the pieces I need - the dark brown/green pieces, the palm pieces and some of the foliage - are still a bit expensive. The next plate should be cheaper though, as it's just a big flat base for the HQ to sit on, with a little bit of foliage.

The TMNT sets do nothing for me.

I am potentially super pumped for more Castle sets. I love that stuff, but since I just got into Lego in the last year most of the ones I would have wanted are already OOP, and the LotR stuff doesn't completely do it for me in that regard.

What system did you get? Which console one will be best and do you know if Wii U will get a release of the game?

Console versions don't come out until this coming week (handheld versions came out a week or two ago), so I don't think anyone knows on that. As far as I know the previous games have all run pretty much the same on 360/PS3; there's nothing too intensive going on in those games usually so I would probably get it for whatever you want to get it on. I haven't heard about a Wii U version but have no idea.

When would we get a first look at those potential new Castle sets if they were true. Like a few months before release? Sooner? I am new to following Lego news like this.

There's actually a lot of good stuff for castle fans spread across a number of themes, even if you don't count the LotR stuff. Most of it is oop but only recently so and therefore pretty easy to find...Diagon Alley for instance, the Vampyre Castle, Medieval Market Village, Royal Joust (worth picking up two I've decided)....super excited to hear there's more coming, though. I know I wasn't alone in thinking LotR would knock it out of rotation for quite awhile.

Late but heres my pics of finished helms deep, you can probably tell the dresser I have it currently isn't big enough, it actually hands over the ledge a bit.

Ugh...I think I'm addicted totally to minifigures now. I went to pick up my gf from work, on the way I went to TRU and a bookstore. I bought the LOTR polybag (on sale) and picked up some Series 7 ones that I wanted, 2 x Evil Knight, 1 x Daredevil, 1 x Aztec Warrior, 1 x Bride. I'll eventually grab the last 2 I need, Tennis Player and Swimmer I think.

The mini figs are dangerous. It is VERY easily to blow through a bunch of money trying to get the ones you want.
