Reviews are by their nature subjective beyond mere facts. Asking for objectivity in a review is genuinely ludicrous and absurd.

I doubt there's a single professional games reviewer who takes pride in being objective lol. They're giving your their opinion, that's what a review is.

Dunno why you're getting preemptively upset about a critical response that you haven't seen yet.
This is why this thread is about an AVG review not a review from a single guy…

I went with 85-89, which hopefully is conservative.

RETRO tend to always knock it out of the park. Other than their +10 year hiatus I have no reason to doubt them.

Why are you directing this response at me? I'm not the one demanding objectivity from subjective reviews lol (a nonsensical contradiction), I think you should be replying to the poster who said that.

I am not upset, I don't care. Simply explaining to you how professional reviews work. They are not exactly giving an opinion, they are running a business. Keep this in mind.

My heart says a 91.

I think it's going to be heavily praised for its presentation, atmosphere, controls, exploration, and general faithfulness to the Prime formula (in spite of some of the discourse). I also think the motorcycle is going to go over better than most people think.

I do think some reviewers will hate the chatty NPCs though and that the writing in general might be seen as weaker than the original games.

What you wrote is not what somebody who doesn't care about reviews would write.

You're preemptively seething about theoretically negative reviews, despite an established history of these games reviewing very well.

Please share your conspiracy theories with us.

I don't have anything to share as I don't care. Haven't read a professional review in maybe 15 years.

This is a thread about predicting an average score, and I shared my prediction. Is that okay with you ?

This you?

Also Nintendo is not even my primary platform of choice lol.

Not very smart, are you? You can't read a series of obvious jokes for what they are.

Anyway, go back to screeching at anyone who you perceive as making a slight against a Nintendo studio when I was making a very general point that had nothing in particular to do with Retro.

I already told you Nintendo is not my primary platform.

Ok, sure. I don't really know what saying that Nintendo isn't your primary platform is meant to be prove, but sure.

That still doesn't explain why you reacted so badly to my point about the changing nature of studios over time and the Ship of Theseus analogy, started going on about Halo (completely irrelevant), me being ''scared'' of a good Prime game (deeply ironic given I am huge fan of the series and am naturally hoping 4 is great) and writing 'it's a fucking first party Nintendo game', as if that proves anything or refutes my point.

If you think that sounds like a reasonable response (and not at all like that of a hyper-sensitive fanboy) to someone musing about the empheremal nature of identity and how it applies to games studios, ok then.

Wasn't the Gamescom demo just the bombastic intro section?

That'd be like playing the intro to Prime 3 and judging it of off that. It's nothing like the rest of the game.
You might be right about that, but it resembled more like them trying to copy Halo than trying to create a Metroid Prime.

Yeah, that was my impression of the Prime 3 intro as well, but the rest of the game is nothing like that.

Although I will say that Prime 4 seems to lean more heavily towards that in general after seeing the NPC interactions etc. in the more recent trailers. That stuff gave me major Halo 5 vibes..

But hopefully it's the Prime 3 case here as well.

I think it might scrape to an 85 - the previews have been somewhat positive but lots of mentions about the annoying, talkative sidekick, coupled with the fact that the game (seems to) play it really safe. As a huge Metroid fan I'm hoping for a 95+ but I don't see that happening here.

Hoping it hits above 90. It's my most wanted game this year and my expectations are pretty high. Don't really care about chatty side characters. So long as the level design is on point and the game is up to the high standards of the previous entries I'll be in heaven.

You sure are trolling a lot for someone who wants this game to do good? Why can't you understand that people trust Nintendo to put out a good game.
That's a yikes from me, fam.
The first Metroid Prime launched within a year of Halo CE and was in development since 1999.

It's Nintendo. We are going to pretend an underpowered portable and it's cartoonish GFX are even worthy or close to the 90-94 I predicted.

If Nintendo had actually cared about making hardware to compete, they release cheap toys to hide behind their brand. Put a brand new LoZ on PS5 Pro or PC and I'm there.

What other company always "has a pass"?
None that's my point.

Tell that to Mario Kart and Kirby Air Riders...
Mario Kart scored 87 despite being one of the worst Mario Kart ever, do you know how many games can't even hope to be 80+ even if they are really good games ?
Kirby what ? Nobody gave a F about Air Riders 20 years ago, that was not meant to be any different today.

I think it will be polished and well made.

And will get 90+ due to that.

All the potential downsides I have seen don't affect review scores.

Personally I will rate it highly if ebb and flow of battles, exploration, traversal etc feels excellent.

So far it looks promising but some design choices might get in the way.

Also some atmospheric alien locations would be cool if they have them.
