The Netflix Recommendation Thread of Dope Movies

Just watched Mary and Max. I've never heard of it before, but it's a wonderful, mature stop-animation movie voiced by Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Toni Collette. Was this movie a thing when it came out?

This.

I bawled like a baby at the end. I never knew clay could make me feel this way.

Ok so when is it coming out in US on DVD? Is it the case that Netflix will wait for the whole series to finish and be released on DVD before they upload it?

No one knows yet. They might separate the DVDs into two halves... or they might wait for the season to fully finish in late 2013 before releasing it, and then Netflix will post it, assuming of course that they still has the license to do so.

Just saw this the other night and couldn't believe what I was watching.

Here's the synopsis from Rotten Tomatoes:

This darkly comic, genre-bending piece of gonzo journalism from international provocateur Mads Brügger rips the corroded lid off the global scheme of political corruption and exploitation happening in one of the most dangerous places on the planet: the Central African Republic. Armed with a phalanx of hidden cameras, black-market diplomatic credentials and a bleeding-edge wit, Brügger transforms himself into an outlandish caricature of a European-African consul. As he immerses himself in the life-threatening underworld of nefarious bureaucrats, Brügger encounters blood diamond smuggling, bribery, and even murder -- while somehow managing to crack amazing razor-sharp barbs at every step along the way.

Its reminiscent of the kind of videos Vice would put out, only it careens even more headlong into the absurd. I had to check up on this flick afterwards just to see if it was real, and sure enough Liberia is suing the filmmaker. Amazing stuff and recommended for anyone who wants to see corruption in action with a heaping side of brass balls and humor.

Has anyone seen Klown? My friend strongly recommended it to me last night, but sometimes I can't tell if she's bullshitting me or not and she has weird taste...

David Fincher's upcoming "House Of Cards" isn't coming to you on some national network or cable channel, but instead through Netflix, the rental and streaming service that is now headed into original programming. it's only natural that members get a sneak peek first, and the first trailer for the series has dropped over on Netflix Instant.

Based on the BBC TV political thriller, the Washington D.C.-set drama stars Kevin Spacey as Francis Underwood, the Machiavellian chief whip of the House of Representatives on a ruthless quest for power. Robin Wright, Kate Mara, Michael Kelly ("Chronicle"), Kristen Connolly ("Cabin In The Woods"), Corey Stoll ("Midnight In Paris') and Mahershali Ali ("The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button") all co-star in the series penned by "The Ides Of March" co-writer Beau Willimon. Fincher directed the first two episodes, and executive produced the series alongside Spacey, with James Foley ("Glengarry Glen Ross"), Carl Franklin ("Devil In A Blue Dress") and Joel Schumacher ("Batman And Robin") among the other helmers involved.

House of Cards comes to Netflix starting on February 1st.

I watched Lovely Molly last night after seeing it get a few nods in the October Horror thread. I thought it was shot well and pretty creepy for the most part. It borrows from Paranormal Activity in the sense that the drama heightens around bed time then develops the plot during the day, which does lead to some lulls. I do wish they would have shown more
of the demon thing once it materialized.
Bonus points for Gretchen Lodge going full frontal.

Holy crap. I need to watch this. I kept seeing the graphic while browsing, but just watched the trailer, and yeah.. I'll watch this asap this weekend.

Just finished the movie 'Klown'. It's a foreign comedy movie (I think Danish) about some schmuck who takes a boy he doesn't like on a camping/canoeing trip, along with his married friend who just wants to get laid, in order to prove to his pregnant girlfriend that he's capable of being a good father. It's pretty funny, I recommend to anyone looking for a comedy and wanting something a bit different. There are a couple scenes that, let's just say, wouldn't make it in an American film, though. Just a fair warning.

They recently added Ghostbusters 2 and Twins to Mexican Netflix.

I think I'm going to do a mini Ivan Reitman marathon this weekend.

The other day I watched this:

It's by Morgan Spurlock, the guy who made "Supersize Me". I didn't really think much of it; I thought it was mildly entertaining, but also lacked direction and focus. Could have been much more interesting.

I wish there was a netflix site where you could just type the name of a movie, and it would show you if it's available and where it's available. Everything I've found seems to either highlight US or occasionally CA movies, but as each region of Netflix seems to have it's own movies, just searching one or two regions seems incomplete to me.

That'd be cool. There really seems to be quite a discrepancy between regions. There's a ton of stuff the US gets and I don't.

On the flip side, I can instantly stream pretty much every popular Telenovela from the past 20 years. That's like 3000 episodes. Beat that, Netflix USA!

Judging by the cover, would that happen to be Euro trash man-boy lovin?

Just watched the Burning Plain and it was really good. Great performances all around and the separate story lines tied together well. Lots of great actors in it too.

Charlize Theron
Kim Basinger
Jennifer Lawrence
Joaquim de Almeida

Just finished watching this based on the recommendations not long ago.

Wow. Please watch this movie people. It definitely can feel like two different movies, with wonderfully hilarious moments that had me laughing out loud, and some very somber and heartfelt moments that do feel very real. It hits at home a lot for me knowing I deal with loneliness often, but I really hope other people watch it as well.

The Invisible War - November 20th In light of Kony 2012, this is subtraction by addition
Steve Jobs: The Lost Interview - November 23rd eh
Hugo - November 24th eh
The King's Speech - November 25th Very yes. Absolutely loved the chemistry between the leads
The Last of the Mohicans - December 1st eh
Half Baked - December 1st good for a watch or two
How I Met Your Mother (Season 7) - December 1st I've been debating for a while whether it's worth diving into this show with all the negativity surrounding the later seasons
The Adventures of Tintin - December 8th Ok, but ultimately disappointing movie given the pedigree
Terminator 2 - January 1st bestest Terminator
Happy Gilmore - February 1st I can't for the life of me remember why I ever found post-SNL Sandler funny
Liar Liar - February 1st Soft spot for this one, not Carrey's best but a good un
Top Gun - February 1st Heyo!
Ferris Bueller's Day Off - February 1st 80's double whammy, gimme Breakfast Club and we're done here
Jingle All The Way - February 1st cheesy family friendly arnie is always good for a chuckle or two, definitely had a turboman doll as a kid
The Naked Gun - February 1st a classic in the slapstick screwball comedy genre. RIP Nielson you hilarious bastard
United 93 - February 11th Exploitative? A bit, but an alright movie I guess

Hope House of Cards sets a better precedent for original content on Netflix than Lilyhammer did. I swear to god if something fucks up the AD S4 release in any way I will hurt people.

I loved that film. For some reason it gave me a weird nostalgia vibe of my younger years and I'm not sure why.

Why doesn't Netflix have a way to find out what is on there other than having Netflix? It's really frustrating.

For example, I just want to see if they a) have Scrapped Princess and b) if it's a dub or sub. But finding this out without signing in, which is not something I can do at work, is impossible. Google does not seem to help on this either.

Did you Google "Scrapped Princess Netflix"? I did that and found out that they don't have it on streaming. DVD-only.

Yes, I noticed that the second and third links in that Google were for renting it, but had no way of seeing what the top link, the one that links to the actual Netflix page, was about. Clicking it just asks for a Netflix sign in. This is a bit weird.

Similiarly, further down in that Google result, people talk about watching SP on Netflix. So it's not entirely clear, no.

I signed up via the Wii U and am loving it so far! My issue is that their website keeps saying my password is wrong. I tried the send me a password reset email last night and this morning, and it won't send me an email. I got the welcome to Netflix email so my email isn't incorrect. Anyone have this happen before? I should just call them.

EDIT: lol it wanted a capital first letter for email for password reset, and lowercase for signing in. Wat. Either way I'm off to explore this wild new world!
