Because there's an Investor Meeting next week. It's pretty easy to see why people could interpret it as or hope for a reveal this week and more news from the meeting next week. It'd be odd to tease a pre-reveal announcement anyways.
I don't know why people act like "Nothing was ever going to happen today/this week" as if they know something lol.
People always forget the huge cash dividend Nintendo paid out of the Wii and DS monies. Which is what a lot of companies do when flush with cash. They paid back a ton of cash to investors.
Considering how even Serkan is not entirely sure about it (he himself said to take it with a big, big grain of salt)...could we say it's Toto v.s. Rogers this week?

Who said I'm talking about Emily? There are lots of people tossing out dates and confirmations and rumors. This thread started from a totally different source. She's just one of many sources pointing in different directions.
And as for why we shouldn't believe? How about why should we believe? In my opinion, NX threads would be a lot more productive if people were skeptical from the jump. I mean, crazy speculation about NX has become a punch-line at this point.

Also, this obsession with trying to prove that certain insiders are wrong by making up narratives that never existed is incredibly infuriating. It's a very dangerous attitude to have not just about gaming, but in general.
If you look through my posts since the tweeting began, I have constantly been expecting an announcement of the reveal (along with a few tidbits, like the final name) this week, and the full reveal next week before the investor meeting. When I said a "direct" wasn't going to happen this week, I meant it. I really don't see Nintendo announcing a brand new console in a direct with only 2-3 days of notice. It's far more likely that a direct is announced this week and aired next week, giving people ample time to prepare.

Wait, I haven't been following all the discussion at every turn. There are people out there expecting the initial NX reveal to be something that competes with PS4 Pro/Scorpio?

I think i've finally figured out how to get an accurate answer on when the NX info is coming. All we have to do is somehow get in contact with Michael Pachter and ask him when the NX is going to not be revealed. If he gives multiple potential dates or time frames just ask him to narrow it down to least likely time of all of them.
Yes. Folks have been "reporting" on Youtube and Twitter that NX will be between PS4 and PS4 Pro in terms of raw power. A 4TF home console that will allow for 1080p/60fps gaming heaven.

Would Nintendo release a stealth-direct, or one with 2-3 days notice if they want a major audience to watch their presentation? Would they release this information at the end of a week so that it gets somewhat lost in the weekend news?
Or would it make much more sense for them to announce that a direct (or digital event, whatever) is coming in 5-7 days at the beginning of a new week? A week in which they will also be talking to shareholders about their future projections?
Think about it- a reveal/direct never made sense for this week. At best I've been hoping for an announcement video like the Mega 64 one. Realistically, we should hope for a tweet about the reveal date.

Nate is implying reveal date this week, not reveal. Which is more plausible, I think.
It's fine for you to expect nothing this week. But there's nothing strange about people expecting a reveal this week with all that's circulating right now and how vague the rumors have been about the exact date or even the week of the date. Neal straight up said "NX news this week", nothing about next week or it just being about an announcement of news. It's clear why people are getting excited about imminent details.

Yeah. I'm not really sure why people are running with that tweet as confirmation of a reveal when it's clear that they have to talk about that in some capacity. The tweet itself very clearly says "but that's not really news: they *have* to then."
Beyond all this, which I agree with, I also see no harm in believing we may only get a few tidbits of info this or next week, with more to come later. I'd rather be happily surprised than disappointed.
They could just talk about it to announce it's been delayed to end of 2017!

But in the context of this past year a reveal date announcement is actually huge news! That's my point- a reveal date announcement isn't "nothing," it's very big news which will cause a lot of hype.
I'm not expecting "nothing," I'm expecting that. And I'm not gonna get mad at insiders for saying that we should expect something, even if it's minor to some people.

What doesn't make sense is Nintendo says they have new hardware coming in six months and have said next to nothing about it.

I do get what you're saying though, and I agree that it would be better for them to talk about the system earlier in the week. I still think they have something special planned for announcing the reveal. A simple tweet at the beginning of a random day doesn't seem appropriate for something they know fans have been aggressively asking for.
Leading up to this week people were saying they HAD to say it before the investor meeting. Now people are saying well maybe they don't have to say anything before the investor meeting. And people are even starting to go "Well the investors will only care about mobile stuff so they don't have say anything about it during the investor meeting..."
I've given up believing in any"they have to say something about it by X."

Thanks to the RDR2 announcement and official reveal this thursday my NX hype has waned a fair bit. I got a new hype train to get on board for now.

It could be, but something tells me they will want to go into a lot of detail about the NX launch at the investor meeting. That would be MUCH easier if it's been revealed beforehand.
That could be true. Like I said, I'm hoping for a Mega64 style announcement video. Maybe even with teasers of games, or a picture of the 3D printed controller somewhere in the background, or Simpsons memes throughout. It would be incredibly welcome for them to actually address, even mockingly, the absurd silence of this past year.
But it's best to keep expectations low, so expect a 3 am PDF haha
