The NX Prediction / BSpeculation / Fanxiety Thread

There's absolutely no way to know if it's a problem without knowing the internals, specs etc and how much that affects developers trying to port or make games for it, other than naysayers jumping to "lol handheld = severely underpowered".

but thats exactly what that means without creating a device that would cost the consumer more current consoles.

there are obviously going to be sacrifices both for the sake of size and power consumption that would keep them from providing something that is on the level of ps4.

Even if they got it to xbox One levels. Your not satisfying any of the needs of a console gamer releasing something that in 2017 that would strugle to output at 1080 for 3rd party games. At that point you are simply providing a good handheld because it simply wont cut it for console gamers.

For Nintendo, its important to leave no excuse for 3rd parties to not develop for it, because when faced with more work to get things goin on a nintendo console, 3rd parties have generally opted to not bother. And when they have, its often been a gimped version that nobody wanted because it was clearly inferior to the other versions or came out later than the other versions.

Nintendo needs to not give 3rd parties an excuse they can run with, because if ther is, they will run with it.

I agree. With Gamecube we had a system which was arguably stronger than PS2, we got amazing games like REmake and Resident Evil 4 and Metroid Prime. The "look" of the console certainly had something to do with the level of interest in the system.

For the past decade, Nintendo hasn't had a system with parity. It was off doing its own thing. I am not sure they can afford to do that again. I have read quotes that they always do something relevant to "right now". I cannot imagine that would mean being irrelevant hardware to most of the third-parties. Not again.

big issue there was the disc size too right. Developers having to compress content to get them to fit on those mini discs. More work for developers means they just wont bother after a whle

I don't think they even threatened him with legal action. He seemingly saw it as an opportunity to get into Nintendo's good graces and sold the source out. For zero gain.

Also the source reads GAF so I know he gets mad whenever people start talking up SMD's bullshit.

You know his source?

Well this is new.

Let's have some fun. If Emily and Eurogamer are correct than it seems easy to assume THIS is the NX.

It fulfills the handheld and "detachable" controllers aspect. You can see in this image that there can be any number of inputs for the device.

Essentially, what they have done here is create amiibo-like (NFC-based) custom inputs. This can lead to more immersive, haptic-like feeback for select games. Looking at the schematics the system can read which input device is inserted and read how to use it accordingly. I surmise that the system will come with several of these for a pack-in party game that uses them. Additionally, new detachable inputs can be packed-in to games like they currently do with Amiibo.

Recall that there was confusion about whether the analog stick on the right was on top or on the bottom...

And once again, there's literally nothing to go off that confirms it would struggle to run 1080p, or even look underwhelming in comparison to the others. I mean geez, the Wii U has 1080p. What's stopping this when docked?

And even if it doesn't look like it matches either XB1 or PS4 in power (which I assume it won't), whether the gap is either small or big (like Wii U vs 360/PS3) is up in the air.

We're writing it out of possibility on the basis of absolutely nothing. Granted a decision to make a machine like this would be basically unprecedented by any other console in the industry up to this point, so it's understandable, but still.

This could also explain why some people reported the right analog stick as being below the buttons while others reported it being above. Dun dun dunnnnnnnnn!!!

We will be able to toggle on/off a setting that allows NXs to be SCDs for other NXs, won't we? This will facilitate some sort of streaming innovation, won't it?

I am not sure I exist anymore, aren't you?

Emily Rogers and several other actual insiders have said information will be coming both this week and next. Emily has since hinted that she expects the actual reveal this week, not just an announcement of the reveal.
I'm worried for Emily. She really is going all in. She must be very confident in what she's been told about NX news this week and it being more than just an announcement date.

I hope we get a console experience on the go and not a handheld experience on the TV.

A proper hybrid should be able to deliver both kinds of experience on the go or at home. Else, it isn't a proper hybrid but a compromised idea.

I hope some devs still make smaller, less resource-intensive games meant to be played on the go, and others make/port console games normally. Would be nice to have a steady stream of both kinds of game.

So basically if we get no announcement by tomorrow, then its safe to say its getting delayed. No way in hell they go into the meeting and tell investors "we will still announce it later this year."

GAF, I love you. I just want to tell you that before this place gets torn apart by skyscraper-sized razor fangs.

LET'S DO THIS.

I am reading this patent and I am incredulous that there hasn't been more discussion about what I am finding. According to [0034], the detachable input devices in the system can be powered wirelessly. I assume that explains the new kind of force-feedback that was mentioned earlier. Each input device can have a unique operation that can power it. The buttons could light up and show different images on its surface.

The individual input devices have a wire antenna in them that powers them via eletromagnetic induction.

First off, what we're going off are the "RUMORS" that suggested we may be dealing with a hybrid in the first place. Those same rumors also say say its likely a TEGRA chip. And one of the main leakers on the rumor of the Hybrid had this to say about its power

"In terms of raw power, numerous sources tell me that NX is much closer to Xbox One than PlayStation 4. Even that might be stretching it a tiny bit"

I dont see why we can only talk about some parts of the rumor and not others. This is all the same rumor. If we can talk hybrid, then we can talk about the other info surrounding this same rumor.

any opinions surrounding power are not based on nothing, they are based on the info provided from primary leakers of the hybrid rumor.

the other half of this is just common sense. Even if you could develop a portable machine with the power of the xbox one and ps4. What do you think the battery life on something like that would be? making such a thing consume less for the sake of battery life would definitely affect its performance. Maybe with a dock. But none of the rumors suggest the dock improves performance or power draw. Would emily's statement about its power not factor in the dock??

Even then. PS4 should be the new standard for power given that we have the ps4 pro and scorpio on the way.

Aiming for something under that puts nintendo right back into a place where its going to get a noticably inferior version of 3rd party games. That sort of thing has never gone well with the userbase of any NINTENDO console. Always been a recipe for disaster. Other companies seem to do fine under these conditions, but Nintendo has never been one of them. They get crucified for anything being below parity with their competition.

also, regarding wiiu's 1080p output. Look at the games running at 1080p. None of those games allow you to move in a full 3d environment (except for monster hunter, which looks like a wii game), nor are the pushing much in terms of polygons or complex shading. What are the games again? smash? kirby, monster hunter and the latest mario rpg? am i missing any

Additionally, there is a 9-point pressure sensor underneath all 4 of the input housings. What this means is that whatever input device you have inserted into the slot, the amount of force you apply on it and where can be used for gameplay, again what that means will be different for each unique input device that is inserted.

It means that whatever device you have inserted will be pressure-sensitive in 9 directions.

What's with the ultimatums? So if we don't hear about it tomorrow, there's literally no other day it could get announced and have the console still come out on time? It could still get announced Thursday or Friday.

It really seems like the reveal date is super up in the air. Which is weird and confusing. But hopefully she's right about this week and people can begin to actually recognize she knows what she's talking about.
