The Office: Final Season |OT| It's better to burn out than it is to rust

Good god, this show is so much better without Andy. It's still not that good, but Andy was just a fucking awful character. They should have never tried to make him the next Michael Scott.

I guess I'm weird because this is the first episode in a long time that felt like it could possibly fit in with some of the earlier seasons.

Yea, I like Hot Tub Time Machine kid.

But apparently I missed or forgot the part where he started banging Jan?

It was back in November, they wanted to sell paper to the Scranton White Pages and learned the buyer is Jan. There was a rumor she had an affair with a 17 year old boy, so they used Clark to get the sale. It worked.

Great episode in my opinion. If the rest are of this caliber, then it'll be a nice way to finish the series.

And yes, I agree that the show works much better without Andy.

I liked all three stories in this one. A, B and C. I'm sorry, but I just did. Especially the B story... or was that one the A? Which one was the important one? Anyway, I'm talking about the Espresso/Pen story. Tearing up the carpet was great. And Pam's reaction when she returned. "Are the pens here?"

Also I had forgotten about Dwight Jr. sleeping with Jan.. Oh god.... I still don't know what to make of that.

I also caught up on last weeks episode Lice. Was interesting. I dunno, I kind of like the wacky Flanderized characters now. I guess because it's getting close to the end I just have to enjoy it for what it is.

I don't understand where the Erin thing is going though. Is Andy EVER coming back? Ever? Is Erin actually going to fall for this guy? At this point I wish she just would and get it over with. Maybe Andy won't ever come back because of it. Sorry, Andy.

Also, I saw a story about Michael Scott not appearing in the finale. Good. Don't bring him back. He doesn't want to come back and it would ruin the character's perfect exit. Last time an exit like that was destroyed, J.D. came back to Sacred Heart after making a huge deal out of leaving it behind.

I thought this episode and last week's were actually pretty darn good.

They would have been very good episodes in the earlier seasons but are only pretty average now because there isn't the Jim/Pam or Michael plots for it all to circle around. Now it is just "stuff that happens".

I enjoyed it, but I pretty much always find some reason to enjoy an episode of this show.

It feels like, as the series winds down, certain actors maybe feel jealous at some of other actors who have always been a wacky and over the top character - like Dwight, Kevin, Michael, and so on. Then as the show is coming to the end, they all wanted their chance to just let loose and be wacky too. I mean, Angela has always sorta been "wacky" but it used to just be an odd super conservative type of wacky, but now she does all kinds of weird stuff along with everyone else. That's just the feeling I get a lot of the times over the last two or three seasons.

They need to figure out how dumb they want Erin to be, she changes too much every episode.
She's been completely Flanderized since the "Hair room" incident. Which, I hate to admit, is something I do too, but with the hood of my sweatshirt. It wasn't the hair thing that I hated. It was them making her overreact to Andy and Angela's engagement for no reason and not accepting the explanation later.

It was that point in her characters existence I really hated her. But I've grown to like her again, it's just that part was so stupid. I did like how Michael played off it though.

That has nothing to do with actors being "jealous" (where did that even come from?) and everything to do with the writers just not giving a shit anymore. This show is pretty much the Simpsons at this point.

I think it comes from Dwight being turned up to 11 because there really isn't anybody to cancel him out any more.

Relatively every body else is turned up too.

Liked the Darrel interview stuff, his being self conscious and almost bailing out of the meeting was nice on top of the comfortable turn it took afterward. It was all very believable. Finally seeing Jim's mojo at the Philly office was interesting too (even though it still feels like this successful looking startup happened a bit too fast...) I'm not buying Pam's fear of possibly needing to move to Philly. The old Pam would have wholeheartedly supported Jim, just as he supported her and her art training. I get that moving their family would be tough, but come on, she doesn't even own the house they live in now! It's Jims' parents'! And does she not remember literally running out of the office to quit and join the Michael Scott Paper co.? Basically this just seems like an artificial problem.

Dwight & Son was okay.

I can't even believe the fucking clown shit the main office staff has been up to. From the mayonnaise being caked in their hair to the carpet being being pulled out, they couldn't be more out of character if they tried. I fully expect Dwight and Erin to open up an indoor waterpark in the office at this rate. What the fuck.

Was there any word on whether or not Steve Carrel is returning for an appearance before the finale?

This is how I feel as well. It might be more believable if they ever showed Pam having a life outside the office, or even being friends with anybody she works with. What exactly is she going to be missing?

Steve does not want to come back. It would tarnish his character's perfect performance in order to drum up ratings. He said Michael Scott left the show the way he wanted to. There's no reason for him to come back.

It's funny Oscar didn't remember there were hardwood floors under the carpeting since he'd known about the hardwood floors under the carpeting since Dwight shot his gun in the office.

It's a ridiculous thing, of course, but it shows that no one is paying much attention.

Oscar was surprised back then too. "My God.. There is a Hardwood Floor under this carpeting! Why would they do that?" He was happy about it. But I guess they forgot about it in the kerfuffle about Dwight shooting off his gun. So when they ripped the carpet up again this time it reminded him about how much he liked the idea and since they were all pumped up they decided to do something about it. I think they should actually tear the carpet up for the rest of the season just for something new and for some continuity. Plus it'd be neat if they showed them removing the carpet next week and someone could mention the hole and say "Hey, remember that time Dwight almost shot Andy?" Then they all go into flashback mode and a clip is shown and.. no, let's not make it a clip show. Please don't turn one of the last episodes into a clipshow.

Speaking of bullet. Does anyone ever wonder where it ended up? What office it went into below? We never really see who is in the other offices except Vance Refrigeration and whatever is listed on the signboard from time to time. But it doesn't really show where they are. Except that the office is positioned at the front.

No one was really in their right mind last episode.

On second watch, there was no discontinuity. He did explicitly say "I always knew it was down here". And in the gun episode he did say it was there even though he couldn't see it. Oscar didn't forget. He just never thought he'd get a chance to see it there. So when the carpet was ripped up he got a chance to see it and decided it was time to bring it back to the top.

See? No discontinuity at all. The writers still know what they're doing. Crisis averted.

Is Andy gone for the rest of the season? I hope so, the show has been slightly better without him.

Slightly?

The show is way better when it doesn't focus on a "boss" or too much on the Jimpam type situation.

The past few episodes have been a pleasure to watch. The supporting cast in this show is so incredible.

Yeah, this was the first time they acknowledged that they basically don't have a boss right now. Even the CEO doesn't visit anymore. Does he even know Andy is gone?

I think they pretty much wrote out all the big stars who have other things going on the side.

Hence why Andy and Kelly are gone. Did Kelly even make an appearance this season?
This episode wasn't bad though and I'm sorta glad to hear they are gonna have a bit more story on the documentary group.

She and Ryan were in the first ep of the season.

Andy I assume is off doing Hangover 3 or something. Kelly and Ryan were in the first episode when they left in a huff. Kelly went to Ohio and Ryan followed her. Kelly of course has her own show which I haven't even checked out yet. (Is it any good?) And Ryan I guess went back to writing since his foil was now gone from the show. At least Toby is still there until the end. Though rarely. (I mean where was he this week? Did he show up at all? You'd think he'd poke his head in at some point to see what they were up to.)

She could miss her pretend job.

Working somewhere with no boss, no ceo and people like Nellie who have time to chat because they also have a pretend job must be pretty sweet.

I would believe you had too much of the Bogota Sunrise.

But whatever.

Isn't Girls also a chick show? A lot of guys seem to like that. Also My Little Pony.

I don't know, never seen it.

The show revolves around Mindy, so if you don't like her, you won't like the show. Most guys that have commented on it say they hate Mindy's character.

Maybe it happens that men tend to dislike it more than women, but I don't think it's divisive because it's a chick show. I do think you're right though: it's divisive because (what I've seen of it at least) is not at all an ensemble show so you have to like Mindy. And I didn't find the Mindy character at all funny. I understand they couldn't just transplant The Office's Kelly (who was hysterical and one of the best side characters) but Mindy the character feels inert.

I think almost all the Office actors are very one-note. People that put them together in the right roles for those first few seasons are comedic geniuses though.

Well, yes, in part because the writers confused "too much espresso" with "smoked crystal meth".
Yeah, I though it was stupidly over the top, but that's pretty much where this show is at this point.

But haven't they been setting it up where Jim is basically going to be set for life if Athlead works out? Pam could work on her art at home with her kids for the rest of her days.

So is The Office good anymore? I haven't watched it since Michael Scott left
I like it, but if you stopped when Michael left, you picked a good jumping off point. I like to see his finale as the finale of the real Office, with the stuff post-Michael as sort of the "Office: Interns" of the show. Except that Michael left for good instead of ruining his exit by turning into the guy who sits in the lobby every episode just to be there.

Pam looked super cute at the end of the Lice episode with her hair loose and curly.
I thought so too. I liked her hair the way she had it in the first three seasons.

Get hyped!

Actually, don't. Probably not a good idea.

Somethng about Pam and Jim's story that I just cant take.its like u can tell she is reading a script and trying to be funny.over acting or something.idk.it doesnt seem like she is geniunely freelancing her thoughts to the documentary camera.
