Since Bjork is basically the only artist I care about that's nominated... (except for maybe Franz Ferdinand, or Modest Mouse).

Though there's not a chance in hell she's winning. Who's performing? I'll still be watching it anyway cause there's nothing else to do.

Speaking of which, I just saw Dancer in the Dark the other day.

It was terrible, definitely one of the worst movies I have ever seen, it would have been a total abortion if not for the stellar performance by Peter Stormare.

So yeah, Grammys and stuff.

:lol :lol

I hope Miss B wins something. I think she actually has a shot at best female pop vocal performance. Just look at her competition. Gwen Stefani and Norah Jones aren't exactly powerhouse vocalists. Best Alt.... she's a veteran at that category (Homogenic and Vespertine were both nominated), but she'll lose... again. :( So unfair.

Fuck off!

Dancer in the Dark is one of the few movies to make me break down emotionally after watching it. Breaking the Waves, Dancer in the Dark and Dogville are all brilliant in their own right, despite any performances that you dislike.

Wow. There isn't another movie that can emotionally own me like Dancer in the Dark. I'm quite a fan of it.

lockii: If Dancer in the Dark is of the worst movies you've ever seen, you're extremely privileged to somehow have avoided 90% of what cinema offers.

As for the Grammys, if Norah Jones or Bjork wins, I'll consider it a win for the good guys.

Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Also, only poseurs get married.

SO why is this performance from Queen Latifah about the only interesting performance the evening? I'm loving this.

While the little "Salute to Sountern Rock" was annoying when these new country folk were stepping over their elders. And the J.Lo/Marc Antony thing was just painful to hear and watch. Not to mention the travesty that was Jamie Fox and Alisha Keyes. Sad that it took an hour and a half to get to a good performance.

Oh, and GO GREEN DAY!

I think I'm actually going to pick up that Queen Latifah album now. I'm not a fan of her movies, but damn she's got pipes!

Agreed. I didn't even know she had released a jazz/vocal album. Definately must check it out.

A friend of mine said the same thing but, it turned out he actually didn't finish watching it til' the very end
where bjork's death is supposed to quadruple-own you and leave you with a verrry different impression of the overall movie compared to the initial impression one has before her death
.

If the movie doesn't own you..what can I say...consider thawing your heart, perhaps.

Anyways, I always wondered if bjork's live performances of her medulla album would have rahzel on stage while matmos manipulates his beats in real time. that must be one sick thing to watch live!

What the hell just happened?

Was that the guy from the White Stripes?

Yes... that was Jack White. Where have you been the past year? Van Lear Rose was all the rage with aging rockist critics like Jim DeRogatis!

Being There, Summer Teeth, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Bjork is horrible.

You are horrible.

Wilco sucks ass. Their music is incredibly dull and boring. And Uncle Tupelo is even worse.

I'm not hip and trendy like Jim DeRogatis. (Who, having listened to many of his talk shows with that other critic on XRT in Chicago, I have no real interest in what the hell he thinks.)

It was just very surreal is all.

If you want to win a Grammy...die. I respect Ray Charles, but damnit if I don't feel that he would have never been nominated if he hadn't died. The Grammys are dead, pun intended, after this shit.

Doesn't look good for Usher :(

Hopefully, the voters go back to their old ways of rewarding the person who sells the most albums :)

Those aren't very nice things to say. Uncle Tupelo and Wilco really shouldn't have any bearing on each other, as the only Wilco album that sort of sounds like Uncle Tupelo is their first, A.M. Everything afterward is pretty much really fucking lovely.

Jeff Tweedy may caterwaul his way along every song, but he's still got great music-writing capabilities. What's so horrible about them?

Wilco is crap. Ghost is trite and boring.

Granted, Medulla isn't Bjork's best, but it's a hell of a lot better than Wilco.

The academy is so pathetic. Figures they go with the pity vote. Genius Loves Company is a terrible record, if Ray wasn't dead it probably wouldn't have gotten any nominations at all. It's silly, really, they always do this shit... yet I always watch and bitch every year.

Green Day releases the greatest album of their career, and they lose Album of the Year to an album that, if Ray Charles had been alive, would have been ignored entirely.

The Grammys need a serious reality check with this one; they spent half the fucking show talking about Ray Charles, and preserving his memory. We got it. The world loves Ray Charles. It seems that they decided that a movie, musical tributes and "In Memorium" mentions weren't enough for Ray Charles. I respect the man, but all sorts of other singers died and they didn't have the insane coverage that he received, and they didn't get anything special for them.

Better luck next year, the living!

Green Day gets the screwjob just like Eminem did.

Grammy voters always skew towards the comebacks and posthumous bits from older artists.

what the hell did U2 win for? their album was terrible. i was having dinner at the time so i missed it.
the performances were actually pretty good, nice idea to get artists together to perform. i wish franz had a whole song to sing though.
observations:
alicia keyes looked really nice.
usher's date has huge jugs.
kanye west is damn cool.
melissa etheridge completely creeped me out, but the other chick that sang alongside is really hot. nice voice as well.

Well, it's trendy for our parents to like U2, just like it was to like Abba for their very own parents in our age. U2 won song of the year for two years in a row, from the same album. :(
