The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Alright, I just went through Evergreen Mills, and I'm a bit pissed.

At some point, it was obviously intended as a full blown town, with NPCs and stores, and probably quests, and even still has "Broken" terminals. It's even a stop for the caravans. Only now it's just a really big raider camp. And oh, hey, one of the announced DLCs is a raider town.

Not cool, Bethesda.

The game has ~60 hours of content. You don't think it's kind of weird to complain if they took something out?

There are a number of places like that. I suspect they'll get modded when the GECK hits. They probably intended it to be something more, but just ran out of time.

It's funny because though, because there's one shop keeper there who will trade with you after you clean up the raiders.

I thought so, too, but blasting an entire town of raiders was awesome. Let's hope newer mods use such places.

If by "finish" you mean" "finish the main quest", then yes. However, I've played for almost 60 hours and only explored 3/4 of the map. I'm guessing I'll finish the game after about 70-80 hours. That's how much content there is.

if you have the superhuman willpower to never stray from the main-quest, then maybe it is.
But I've played for around 50 hours and I'd say about 1 hour of that, at most, has been put into the mainquest. I'm far, far, far, far from being finished with either the mainquest or the sidequests.
I find walking in a direct line to my objective is nearly impossible, there is so much to do in the wasteland.

Complain about what you will in Fallout 3, but not the amount of content. Besides the fact that I'm not sure Evergreen Mills was really meant to be more than it is (a cool little raider base), I almost wish Bethesda took out more stuff.
I'm feeling stressed just at the thought of the approaching DLC since I'm not sure I'll have enough time to get "done" with what is in the game now.

If I go right to Vault 112 and skip the GNR quest and the
the first trip to Jefferson Memorial
, can I still do Trouble on the Homefront? I already completed those quests for the achievements on my first character, I just want to head back to Vault 101 for the Bobblehead.

Completed the game and all of the sidequests I came in contact with on the way.

The ending is lame-o, anticlimactic, but expected.

The only issue I had with the game (PS3) bug wise was the message stalls, and 3 or 4 times that the game would get stuck in VATS mode forever, not frozen, I could still get to the menus, but I had to load a previous save to get out of VATS. I found it happened more often than not when the mysterious stranger showed up.

I'll play through it again another time, changing my strategies to the opposite of the first time, but I'm not going to bother until the trophies get added because I won't do it a third time in the near future.

I think that quest only triggers after you complete
The Waters of Life
.

This is funny because I'm saving my second playthrough for when the PC GOTY edition comes out with all the DLC to double dip on the achievements.

How much money did you guys accumulate in your playthroughs? Is the work bench and the soda machine worth it for the house?

All of the things you can buy for your house are decent and worth it, in my opinion. The work bench appears right beside one of the lockers in your home, so you can store all of the good junk in the locker and have it ready to use when it's time to build stuff.

The soda machine turns Nuka-Kola into Ice Cold Nuka-Kola, which is tied with Mirelurk meat for being the best food in the game: 2 rads and 20 health. I never drink the Nuka-Kolas I find. I take them home, make them Ice Cold, and then take them on adventure with me. Carrying 10 or 20 of these saves on Stimpacks.

The lab gives you regular free drugs to use or sell and if you ever get addicted to something you can erase it. The infirmary can either heal you or remove your radiation.

Opinions vary, I think Evergreen Mills and the other places like it are some of the best things in the game.

I didn't know it was there until I was standing over it, a whole town of raiders who I knew would shoot on sight. Do I purge it or walk away? Since it wasn't apart of a quest there was no push either way. That there is a trader in there is brilliant because it lets you unload stuff while you're far away from civilization.

It's these unscripted set pieces that bring Fallout to life.

God this game is so good. I have been exploring random vaults and wow vault 92 is actually a horrible place to explore so much fucked up shit obviously went down in there!

How do I use spoilers when im writing btw? Sorry for asking such a newb question I just can't find the option on the icons above as Id like to write about said vault but don't want to spoil it for anyone else.

Kadey said:

If you want to blow through the game, probably.

I wouldn't know, since I broke off the main quest around hour 15 and currently have 55 hours logged into the game with no close end in site. I have about 3/4 of the world explored now, and plan on traversing the entire wasteland before I'm done. If you aren't going to go out and find things for yourself, explore this awesome world (best world ever created) then skip the game. One of the great things about Fallout 3 is traversing the wasteland and seeing how other people are dealing and responding to rebuilding the world post nuclear destruction.

Pathetic. God it pisses me off when people get it wrong(I'm not a grammar nazi but it makes no sense!).

Edit: Two mistakes. Not just one by the way.

Damn, that's bad.

That quest wasn't particularly well written in general, great set up but really underwhelming interactions and characters.

Speaking of Fawkes, some people on GameFAQs were complaining about the ending. The devs at Bethesda must have anticipated that people would bring Fawkes along with them to the end because you have a chance to ask Fawkes to
punch in the code for you. This would be fine because when you used Fawkes to get the GECK, radiation wasn't a problem... so this would have been a win-win scenario. Unfortunately, Fawkes gives you a "this is your destiny" speech and refuses to go into the chamber himself.
.

What does happen if you ask
Sentinel Lion[??] to type in the code? I asked her, but didn't give her the code and she became angry, after that I tipped them in by myself
:lol

Ron Perlman refers to you as a coward in the end montage

Well, ran into a snag. Playing the 360 version, and Scribe
Rothschild
has disappeared off the face of the earth. He's not in the laboratory and he's nowhere to be found. So I can't ask him about
Vault 87
. HOPEFULLY I'll be able to just find it and it'll trigger the quest anyways. If not,

royally fucking pissed.

Just finished The Nuka Cola Challenge. Since I'm on the 360 I actually just saved, gave her the 30 Quantums, got the achievement, and then reloaded. Since I already have a Nuka-Grenade schematic, I decided keeping the 30 Quantums instead of getting a 10% boost was a good idea. Those damn things were tough to find.

This is the same bug that tipped me over the edge into getting the PC version.

The game is royally fucked on my PC now. Constant crashes and I can't load a single saved game anymore. Apparantly Bethesda's working on another patch, so here's hoping.

Probably asked before...
But is it really worth it to install the game on the X360 HDD?
I've been playing the game for about 20 hours now, and I am thinking of installing it...
Does the game improve much?

After I installed the game, there were no freezes and well the 360 is way more quiet.

I pretty much had to install mine. My Xbox literally eats most of my discs so I was lucky to be able to install it before it was FUBAR. No more disc scratching, no more DREs, no more locking up.

Now I need a bigger HDD to install the rest of my games.

Is it overwhelming like oblivion?

Anybody know of a good way to hook up 360 controllers to a comp or good substitutes. I just dont feel like going mouse on this one and I've been meaning to get a PC controller for awhile

So.. apparently everyone is just OK with you running around with a big ass super mutant sidekick? Lame, I was expecting chaos. PS, I just met the President and got the vial, how close to the end am I? I guess my huge morale choice is to wipe out all mutants or no clean water for anyone?
Also, thanks to everyone who told me I could use duplicate weapons to repair and keep my guns in order. Shit works great now.

Unforgivable.

It reminds me that the first two Fallouts had abundant spelling and grammar errors. Dozens of them. It was so irritating. I can't deal with that shit.

You plug it in?

Seriously that's it. :lol

All the buttons should mapped exactly like the 360 version of FO3.
Plug and play for GRID, Mercs 2, and DMC4 so I can't imagine FO3 wouldn't.

You can convince them to stop killing the people of Arefu, release that West guy and that's it. I think Vance will give you the shishkebab schematic if you end the quest this way.

Nope.
You gain a perk which allows you to drink blood packs for significant HP gain.

All games for windows games support the 360 controller perfectly it seems. In Fallout 3 it simply works, the entire menu switches to the 360 controller mapping.

Holy shit, I just nuked Megaton
. That was unbelievable. Scary as shit when
You warp to the ruins and find hideous shop lady right behind you
. I actually felt terrible about what I did.

Man, the loading screen is taunting me with that Level 20 to 21 progress bar that won't budge.

Why Bethesda, why ;_;

This is something that continues to confuse me. Many are now upset that the level cap is 20, the same as Fallout and Fallout 2. Yet if Bethesda would have axed it in favor of a higher cap, there would be just as many of the diehards complaining that they fucked with the original series too much. The cap is fine, and it encourages you to play through with multiple characters, trying out different styles of play.

wel the cap also balances out the game a certain way... not gonna stop me from using the mod though:p

Do what I did next...
and kill tenpenny

Then again I've just been using that as my entire strategy for this first play through. Maybe next time I'll try being good. :lol

Finished it tonight and outside of the crappy ending it was a fantastic game. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than Oblivion and maybe even ever Morrowind. The main quest was actually great, so that is probably what made it extra great. I spend 50+ hours I think with the game and did pretty much everything I deemed worthwhile.

agreed. And besides, it doesn't really matter. It's not as obvious as it was in Oblivion, but the game still levels up with you(and I still don't like that concept at all). So when you were level 5 you were shooting at a rabid dog with a hunting rifle and when you were at level 15 you were shooting the Yao Guai with the plasma rifle... would those same people complaining about the level cap really be delighted to be shooting a Deathclaw with a Gatling laser minigun at level 25 or something? The game levels with you, it's all irrelevant, mildly challenging combat. :lol

I know it was for balance but I really wish the level cap was higher. I'm not really one for different play throughs and I'm attatched to my character. Have lots f stuff still to do but I miss the xp too. Oh and the 20>>>>>>>>21 on the load screens is such a tease.
