Finally got my 360 copy!
Quick question - This is the part that I wasn't so good at in Oblivion. And that's creating the best possible character for what I want.
I want to be able to use Sniper Rifles and long distance weapons to get stealth kills so should I put my perks on Small Guns, Big Guns or should I do it for the Laser Weapons one? (I forget what it's called).
If you want to build a stealth character I'd recommend tagging:
small guns,
sneak,
repair
Repair is like the most essential thing in this game. Small guns will encompass pretty much the entire arsenal of a stealthy character, and sneak will obviously be a big aid in getting you within close proximity while remaining hidden for the stealth kills.
Just because you tag 'em doesn't mean you need to throw tons of skill points in them right away though, I view tagging as a good way to get skills to useable levels so you can play the style of character you want without giving up tons of early skill points to the specific skills in your desired style of play.
My first and current character could probably be best described as the Gordon Freeman of the wastes. Topped out INT already, very high perception, and solid across the board in everything else.
Future builds I'm considering would be a big guns character, for whom I'd tag repair, small guns, and I'm thinking maybe explosives or lockpicks (to facilitate looting), with heavy use of the perks "size matters" and "strong back".
I really want to make a character who uses the perks "night person" and "solar powered" both though, and play to that difference. Get strength, perception, and intelligence up to 8 (after all bonuses) and then soak up big points in endurance, agility, and luck. The only real problem I'd see is that 1. I'd save looting inside buildings for nights and 2. I'd be a melee focused character outside in the day, so when I'm roaming the open wastes, getting shot at while trying to close ground on enemies. I guess the regen ability would off-set that though.
Lot of interesting ideas to work with in the game's character system.
On a whole I really like it. I still don't think it fits with the Fallout 1 and 2 legacy as it doesn't really capture the same kind of character from the NPCs and world at large. But its an excellent step forward from Morrowind and it makes it very easy to forget Oblivion.
