The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Ok, can anyone help me with a problem on the PC version?

I can only play for like 5 to 10 minutes, sometimes less at a time. It freezes and I have to go out to quit. I dont have ffdshow, since I know that was causing issues. I cant find any explanation or help online to fix this. I want to play operation anchorage and the pitt so bad but can never. With broken steel coming out, I want to play this.

I have the steam version if that makes any difference, and am running it on Vista 64 Ultimate.

Thanks.

Do you have K-Lite codec installed?

Also, you can try installing CodecInstaller and check if ffdshow left some leftovers on your PC (it did on mine and the game freezed every 5-10 minutes) and if it did, remove them.

Ok, will do.

Don't judge me it was 2:30am and I was on an exhausted, heavy eyed, gaming bender.
How did I do?

Not bad I think you were a medic. You had lots of points on revives. I kind of suck at the game right now I'm just really getting into it.

At least you werent this other douchebag medic on our team that kept on reviving me with like 5 enemies in front of me. I HATE that shit. Spawn into death with no grenades or ammo.

How do you get the chinese stealth suit in OA?

Can I go back and do it? I only have 1 character. The power armor and gauss rifle from OA are awesome. The loot from pitt sucked imo

You can go back to the Outcast base to get the armor...you just cant go back into the simulation.

Will the new perks be added every other level like that are in the regular game? If that's the case I guess I'll go for Solar Powered at level 21.

You can get a new perk at each level up, and there's 10 new perks.

Can anyone answer this question:

Right now I have a maxed out character. I haven't completed the rest of the campaign and I have a few remaining places to visit in the wastes. When I download Broken Steel, will the cap immediately be lifted or do I have to complete the game and THEN the cap is lifted?

That's a good question. I did the pitt and OA with my save at the citadel right before you assault the enclave so I'm straight either way.

I guess I can finally start a new character and not blow up megaton and see how the game plays out then.

I would think it'd make the most sense for the cap to be raised as soon as you download it. Then again, Broken Steel should have been the first DLC so common sense doesn't always apply.

I don't know, but Broken Steel takes place on the normal world map so there's no reason not to finish the game immediately if you haven't yet.

I have a 360 and a PS3, I got the PS3 version of Fallout as a gift. Do I seriously have to trade it in ( which is what I'll do ) for the 360 version? I was willing to wait for Game of the Year for both but I am starting to worry.

Yeah, I would.

I don't know, but I really hope it's just automatically lifted as soon as it detects the DLC. Surely that's how it will work, right? :/

Oh my god what a timesink this game is. I started today at 3PM and boom now it's 11PM. I'm home sick and started to play a few days ago and have got so far to level 13.

The game sneaks on you, initially it seems there is not much going on and the narrative is sparse, but suddenly I find myself just completing thing after thing after thing, searching every corner completely.

I've never got into WoW but I'd imagine this is as close I could get.

The ending of this game is a joke. That is all.

I just beat it today and I agree.

I heard stories that once you enter the building, you can't leave or something. Was this fixed in an update? The game also created a new save file when I entered as well.

I love that through exploration and levelling you can complete a fetch quest unknowingly.
NPC: I need you to find 'insert random object' for me.
Me: Oh, I found that weeks ago.

Hopefully this doesn't release all glitched out like The Pitt.

God, I hope so, I'm tempted to wait until late afternoon, see if there are any huge problems.

That's...uh...the whole point of the 3rd DLC. :P

Yes, once you talk to Elder Lyons and confirm that you want to start the mission, you are stuck in the end-game.....at least until tomorrow.

No, I don't think so. Not for the PC version at least.

When I entered the Jefferson Memorial, apparently the game saved automatically to a # slot (so not an auto save). Once I beat the game, I loaded this save and it brought me to the moment I entered the Memorial. I left the building and just continued exploring the wasteland and everything was fine.

I have Xbox and this is how it happened for me.

So the 3rd DLC comes out tonight? I guess it's time for me to pick up all 3 of them, haven't played in a while.

I adore the game however, put in over 100 hours back when I first got it.

What are you going to be able to do to get to level 30 if you've done all of the side missions and both of the previous DLC already? Infinite caravan defense?

yeah, this sounds about right

:lol Awesome. Again, I just hope there is actually enough XP for me to get there. Or maybe I'll just take out a few more cities.

Though I think 'Scourge of the Wastes" is a better title than 'Devil'.

You have to do what Im going to do: Reload a save from around the time you hit lvl 20 and play from there.

When DLC hits on a Tuesday it often comes earlier than that. More than often actually.

Hmm I'm level 20 and I did all the marked sidequest (not the unmarked ones), you guys think Broken Steel plus non marked sidequest will be enought for level 30 or I have to get oA and THe pitt too?

How long till broken steel? hours, minutes, seconds'

Is there an easy way to transfer FO3 saves(on PC) to a new PC? Do I just copy the whole folder over? I really don't want to have to redo the whole story just to get the new DLC.

man patch 1.5 has basically destroyed mods for fallout 3.

from the guy who does the unofficial oblivion and fallout 3 patches
http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=985364
Surprise! Patch 1.5.0.22 causes more problems than it fixes. Bethesda's patching continues to be incompetent. Quarn (the creator of the Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch and Unofficial Oblivion Patch, among other things) has documented two major bugs caused by patch 1.5.0.22 that will affect mod users. His descriptions of the bugs can be found below, and steps to reproduce them can be found in the forum thread.

Bug #1: Saving Crash
Non-Persistent creatures\NPC's placed by mods (esp's only, esm's and interior cells are unaffected) will cause the game to crash upon trying to save after visiting and leaving the area where they are.

Bug #2: Vanishing Objects
Non-Persistent objects (statics etc.) placed by mods (esp's only, esm's and interior cells are unaffected) will vanish upon loading them the second time.

As with patch 1.1.0.35, Bethesda has managed to release a "patch" that manages to cause major issues while fixing only a few things (though at least they managed to fix one V.A.T.S. issue). Maybe it's because Bethesda has admitted that patch 1.5 was "primarily" to prepare for Broken Steel.

Yeah, that's right. The primary reason for a patch was to prepare to sell you more DLC (that will also be full of bugs, most likely), not to fix major bugs that Bethesda caused with a previous patch, not to fix the hundreds of other bugs still present in the game, not to improve performance, etc. Of course, what do you expect from a company that is selling you the real ending to their game...

i wont be buying broken steel until this is fixed, I urge other pc mod users to do the same.

Not out in the UK yet. Crap. Hoping to download before going to work. Still, at least it means I won't be a guinea pig if it's buggy.

Its up..its just not in the featured downloads yet. You have to go to all Fallout 3 content and its there

Seems the PC version not working, keeps giving me a error when I install it, checked forums seems other are having the same problem.

FEV vial:
The tidal pool is filled with dead Mirelurks, every drink of waters is -1 Strength, and I can't find Charon at Underworld.
But various ghouls and mutants (including Fawkes) are still fine, even though the narration says "all" are dying as a result of the FEV vial. But I guess Three Dog is telling people not to drink the water, so that may be why.

(I'm not sure this needs to be spoiler tagged, but just to be safe...)
Hmm, there's a new quest that takes place in
Megaton
, I wonder how that will work for the folks who
blew it up
.
