The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Back with a crazy glitch:

No idea what happened...

It started when I hit the Escape key...

Objects turned highlighted:

Then this weird flash of a texture:

The sky turned into metal and car tires.

The character got all shiny and shit-mapped.

And it ended with this before I did a Ctrl-Alt-Delete:

point lookout is/was a blast! Definitely my favorite DLC behind broken steel. The weapons aren't great though. Double barrel shooty < Combat Shotgun/Terrible Shotgun. And the lever-action rifle isn't nearly as good as the stuff you can get in the regular game.

At the same time though, the one-off weapons like the gauss rifle and tesla cannon are really a double-edged sword. I love using them, but since there's no way to repair them they start degrading and there's nothing you can do about it. That takes away from there fun a little bit. I'm glad the Weatherised power Armor from OA doesn't break down at all.

yeah, that is irritating, but you can do this

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Crazy_Wolfgang

With the Point Lookout expansion, Wolfgang's repair skill can be further increased by Reverse-Pickpocketing a Workman's Coveralls with better than 75% condition, boosting his base 75 repair skill (+10) to 85 (allowing him to repair items to 91% CND).
or use this glitch
http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Haley
Haley's Repair skill can be raised through use of a glitch. It is somehow affected by entering and leaving his store. Doing so will raise his skill by 5. Simply leaving and re-entering his shop raises it again for some players, but others had to walk a certain distance from the shop to recreate the effect. Fast traveling to another location (such as Blackhall Manor) should work. His skill can be raised to 100 with this glitch, though some players report his skill resetting to 16 or stopping at a random number, for seemingly no reason. This can also only be done if he still has his original jumpsuit on. Through this glitch, one can finally bring very well-worn unique weapons back to 100% condition. This glitch appears on both PC and XBOX

I hope MZ has at least one npc that can repair your stuff to 100

Nice, I was just gonna ask where the best repairers are since my repair skill has been neglected and I'm at level 18.

I just did the uber-long Those! quest and was about to go talk to Wilks when I saw two guys id'd as Talon Company Mercs. I jetted outta there as fast as possible. WTF why are they in Grayditch all of a sudden?

Is the power armour worth learning? It's so fucking heavy. Beat the Behemoth just now, was a pretty easy fight, dumped a nuke on him and then mini gunned the rest.

Stupid dog meat almost got killed.

Is the PS3 version still buggy as all fuck, or did they patch it? Looking to get this before the Sept DLC drops, or should I just wait for the inevitable Game of the Year edition with all the content.

Wasn't the cost of learning to use power armor pretty low? I'd say learn it, you definitely won't miss out on anything else by using points on it.

As for whether or not they're useful, some of the power armor sets are good, and can help with Strength (if you decide to carry around a lot of stuff). But I'd personally recommend the Ranger Battle Armor (worked the best for me, but I'm probably wrong here).

Pretty late to the DLC on this, I started with The Pitt a while back now, and recently bought everything else so far off the marketplace. Finished Achorage first (fun, but short), and almost finished Broken Steel which has been WAY more fun than I thought it would be (Brotherhood of Steel storyline not my favorite).

The
Ghouls in the tunnel on the way to the Presidential underground tram (? whatever it was) were fucking hard! They took out the sentry bots in no time,
I had to do a lot of running and hiding, it was pretty scary having them all chase me! :lol

I still check every ammo and first aid box I come across, and still explore a lot, way more than Oblivion. The DLC on for Fallout has been really so much better than that for ESIV.

Point Outlook up next :D

Can anyone tell me the approximate size of each DLC pack? I've been waiting for Bethesda to finish all of them so I can just download everything and play through, but I only have a 20gb HDD on my 360. With the game installed, I have about 4.8gb of free space. Will that be enough for all 5 packs (assuming Zeta is roughly the same size as the others)? Or should I just wait for the inevitable "GOTY" edition that I hear is coming this fall, with all the DLC added in, and re-buy it for PC?

Finally found out why there are mercs after me. Apparently someone put out a 1000-cap bounty on my head... quite literally. They want my head brought back.

If you too good or too evil they will send mercs after you.:lol

Goddammit I thought the mercs only come after you if that dude who wants Megaton destroyed escapes. I thought I was in the clear. I mean I'm not THAT good... *checks Karma rating*

*sees my Karma presently comparing me to Jesus*

... well then.

Nope, they will keep coming after you :P

360

Operation: Anchorage
File Size: 369 MB

The Pitt
File Size: 492 MB

Broken Steel
File Size: 620 MB

Point Lookout
File Size: 450 MB

MZ ?

PC (from my HD of all the DLC so far) 2.52 GB

I've beat the first two DLC's so far. Surprisingly I liked Anchorage more than the Pitt. It felt more like a proper one off mission. The Pitt started off well and has a nice moral twist at the end but it felt too big for a one off and not big enough for a proper thing for me.

Thanks for posting the new DLC screens, I hadn't seen them yet, I haven't played Fallout in about 2 weeks, the longest stretch in a while.

Can't wait til the 3rd!

Awesome, thanks, going to download when I get home tonight!

Its kinda fun to see some of NMA go apeshit over the DLC tho.

Its like continually throwing water on a cat.

The fact the game came out, scored well, sold well, and was generally well received by people must really kick some of them in the balls.

Im sure we will see hypocrisy aplenty when obsidian makes New Vegas though.

Just started Point Lookout yesterday

I finished the second mission
where you get high or whatever

But I was just wondering, are there any more cool sidequests like the ones in Broken Steel that were as cool as that
one where you get in the knifefight with the gang leader

I just finished up Point Lookout and have to say its been not only my favorite DLC, but actually one of my favorite experiences of the whole game. The environment was great, I loved the creepy swamp vibe, and the writing was actually smart and funny most of the time. Thumbs up!

I'm looking forward to Mothership Zeta but I'm bummed because I reached level 30 during Point Lookout and the game is just not the same without being able to level up, and I don't feel like starting up a whole new game. I am at a loss.

Why even have a level cap at all? We should be able to just continually level up until we max out. Oh well :(

Those are pretty much my exact feelings too. I hit 30 after Broken Steel and haven't really felt like playing much since. I'll probably end up checking out Point Lookout at some point though.

112 was creepy. Unexpected turn for the game, I really enjoyed it. The simulator was an anticlimax I felt. Walking him back was a pain in the ass.

So I've put in a good 35 hours in the main game so far (PC) and have been having a blast. However a few hours ago the game started crashing (in the museum of technology). It would just freeze while the music would keep playing. I am forced to end task and load from my previous save. This is starting to become a frequent occurrence, maybe once every 20 minutes since that first crash. Did my save file become corrupt or something? Is this a known issue? It has ran without a hitch up until this point...

Should I reload a previous save like, before the museum of technology and try replaying from there?

the graphics in Fallout 3 look pretty good however I wish they had made better character models.

I think the graphics and particularly the detail of destruction in the environment are terrific but the animations (namely, the character's 3rd person animations) are horrendous.

Regarding my freezing problem...after completing the three dog quest it hasn't happened since...guess it was just one of those things.

So I run into this crazy Russian named Dukov. One of his "girls" by the name of Cherry wants me to take her to Rivet City. Problem is I haven't been there yet. I do some reading and find out after 5 in-game days she'll change her mind. So I figure "Hopefully it's not that far, and I've been to the Tepid Sewers already." I check the map for it's location since it's on my Pip-Boy...

I got this game a few weeks ago, and I love it!

It's strange though because I couldn't stand Oblivion, yet I love Fallout 3.

Is this the case for anyone else?

I actually enjoyed Oblivion more, even though I can see that F3 is the better game, technically.

Same here, i guess i just found the world and setting to be incredibly boring. Not so for F3. I've sunk in over 100 hours and i've enjoyed every moment of it.

Me pretty much. I've never been able to get into their Elder Scrolls games even though I buy them every time and try to. Oblivion was the closest but I gave up on that too. Someday I will finish it I hope but their worlds sort of feel like a generic tolkien rip thought I understand why people like them.

Fallout 3 was the first real game by them that totally hooked me.

Also I'm now into Broken Steel. It's been pretty enjoyable so far and I like that it still uses the DC area rather than introduce a new area and the missions have been of a decent size and length.

Have a decent sneak? You can just cut down along the water's edge to Rivet relatively quickly. If not, you should be able to blast your way down without a huge amount of trouble as well.

in fallout 2 they say the vault dweller went away with the great sky spirit.

I so want some fallout 1 and 2 NPCS to be in the alien ship. the meltdowns alone would be delicious!

YESSS! YESSSS!

Just beat it...

Where the hell does Dogmeat go after you get drugged and caught by The Enclave?

Also, who is the best NPC character to have with you?

So onto the expansion packs.

Which is best to play first?

Sounds like Anchorage and The Pitt are standalone packs while Broken Steel is a true add-on with the same map. Is that right?

Is there anywhere where I can get all the expansions on the cheap together? Anything like that? PC version here.

Try looking for Dogmeat at the entrance of Vault 101.

I'd recommend you go with Broken Steel. The increased lvl cap, weapons and the proper "closure" it has makes it worth playing first.

I checked there and he's not there. I fear he may be gone :(

Another question, anyone know where I can by the DL content combined for a discount?

Personally I don't think the order you play the content in really matters. It's sort of a personal thing. As long as you have Broken Steel you can level up in the others which was the only real issue to me. I did them in the order they came out but you could easily do them in whatever order feels correct to you. I sort of wanted to do what I thought would be the weaker ones and then build to the better ones.

Bad times in the wasteland today. Had to let a scientist die because I used my last stimpak. Enclave gestapo bullshit. Got to the citadel however, I'm going to check out some of the other vaults and raid the north east valleys where Talon company are hanging out. Oh shit I still have to go to Tenpenny still. So much to do.

Shoot her then.

So what exactly is the GOTY edition going to be like? Is it going to be the exact same stuff just with you loading all the DLC off the disc onto your HDD? Or can you play all the content off the disc?

I guess they're not going to go back and clean up some of the technical quirks for the GOTY edition? All I'd want is for them to do a little clean up on the PS3 versions framerate, fix some bugs, and add in some damn AA.

I've bought this game a few days ago. I'm not too impressed so far. I loved the intro in Vault 101, and I enjoyed Megaton and its sidequests, but after that it all went downhill: A long series of boring metro tunnels, fights that require little or no strategy, and very few dialogue choices. I was excited to finally arrive in Rivet City, but it's a pretty awful place, all corridors and tiny rooms.

Anyway, I haven't played Oblivion, but Morrowind was definitely a better game than this, as were Fallout 1 and 2. Well, lots of people seem to love it, so I'll keep playing, but I'm not too hopeful.
