Whoah....that's a valuable piece of information right there. I'm definitely recruiting Dogmeat now!

I have the original version of Fallout 3 for Xbox 360 (Which I haven't gotten around to playing yet) and I understand the DLC is on sale this week on XBL for 50% off. This has prompted a few questions for those of you familiar with the DLC......

A) I've heard Operation Anchorage changes the ending to the game - Should I play the original through first to see the original ending or will I not miss it? Is that even possible with the DLC installed?

B) Are all five pieces of DLC worth buying? Or should I wait for the GOTY edition to come down in price instead?

C) How much space does the DLC take up on the Xbox hard drive?

Broken Steel is the DLC that adds the new ending. You won't miss it, once BS is added, the new ending will automatically occur. If you add BS after you've finished the original, you'll have to replay the final mission, I imagine.

Can't help you with the other questions.

Anyone know what the heck the "NO US Operation Anchorage ES" thing is on the 360 marketplace? It seems like it would be the non-US version... possibly in Spanish? Why the hell is it on the US marketplace, the highlight of the sale no less?

A) as was said, broken steel is the one that changes the ending. i don't think you miss anything as the ending is kind of weak. and i don't think it's possible with the dlc installed. if you want to see it, just youtube one to get an idea of what you missed after you play it. really isn't anything to write home about.

B) broken steel and point lookout are the must buys. the rest can be skipped, though OA has some good gear. and mothership i think has some good gear - been avoiding that so far in my game, so can say for sure.

C) have the pc version, so not sure, sorry.

Personally, I really enjoyed The Pitt as well. Mothership Zeta and Operation Anchorage are the two to skip unless you really want the gear.

Got a question, I got the Fallout 3: GOTY for the 360. When I install the second disc with the DLC, do I still need the second disc later on when I play it or will the first disc(actual game) do?

You only need the 2nd disc when you want to install the DLC. Everything else is done off the first disc.

Oh nice, Thanks. My friend wanted to borrow it off me for the DLC, now all he has to do is just install the second disc I guess.

Very good. I think I'll pick up 'The Pitt', 'Point Lookout' and 'Broken Steel'. Thanks to everyone for the replies :)

I just finished the main quest of this game and it's definitely become one of my favorite games ever. I didn't really enjoy Oblivion when I first played it on 360, but playing Fallout 3 on PC is a mind-blowingly awesome experience, mainly because the leveling system is head and shoulders avove the broken crap in Oblivion. I probably couldn't have chosen a better game as the first to play on my new computer. Having never before owned a PC that can run modern games at even a stable framerate, I'm extremely impressed to be playing a game with a vast open world with only miniscule, barely noticeable loading times, in 720p at 60 fps with AA and AF, etc. So good. The only downside is that it will be hard to go back to playing on consoles, lol.
Anyway, I have a couple questions...
Should any of the NPCs have acknowledged that I killed Alistair Tenpenny? It seems odd that the brutal murder of the proprietor of the tower would go unnoticed. Then again, giant communist hating robots are strange too.
Also, is there any reason why an ally would just disappear? Star Paladin Cross started following my character before the mission where you acquire the GECK from Vault 87, but I haven't seen her since then.

Finished the main quest a few days ago, it was great. Now I'm going back and exploring and saw a nice encounter, a Super Mutant Behemoth fighting one of the wondering traders with the Brahmin. SMB killed him, the cow and his merc, I killed the SMB with some mines and rockets and looted tons of caps and weapons\armor. Fantastic game.

As a newcomer to the GOTY edition, do I have to worry about doing things in a certain order? I know that some of the DLC affects the ending/s etc and I just want to make sure I don't screw myself. I'm asking because it's the Steam version so I don't have the choice of playing vanilla first.

Also, is there anything I need to be aware of in order to access/get the most out of the DLC?

Thanks

The answer to all your questions is: no. Just enjoy exploring the world and doing all the quests you find. I don't know about affecting the ending, but it's total crap anyway so you shouldn't care. The only way you can skip stuff is in the main quest, where you could potentially stumble upon some places you aren't "supposed" to find yet according to the storyline, thus missing out on some of the quests earlier in the quest chain.

the dlcs give u some pretty epic gear early on, so maybe wait till around level 10 or so to do em so you dont majorly ezmode the rest of the game.

157 hrs in, I've completed all the DLC, which I didn't play the first time around and now I'm just exploring the last few places I have to discover and getting any remaining loot.

I have to say Point Lookout is the best DLC, then followed by Broken Steel, then the Pitt.

Well, no one should be playing this game on normal, it's so easy it quickly becomes extremely boring. After a few hours you can walk up to any enemy in the game with your Combat Shotgun and basically blow their head off in one shot. For first time players I'd recommend Hard, although Very Hard isn't actually that hard either (except during Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta, god damn +35 armor-ignoring damage from all enemies, so fucking cheap, not to mention the aliens with force fields). You can adjust difficulty on the fly so starting on Hard or Very Hard and lowering the difficulty to Normal or lower during PL and MZ is probably the best way to play.

The tearing an framerate are shocking on the 360 GOTY. what's it like on the PS3 I had the standard version on PS3 which was so much better. is the GOTY just as good?

can't say that the 360 GOTY edition is inferior to the normal version as far as framerate and tearing issues are concerned since i had both versions at some point. i had abysmal fraterates in different parts of the game on both versions. what's shocking is that the GOTY edition freezes a lot and by a lot i mean i haven't played a game to date that froze even nearly as much as this, especially the DLC stuff.

So the 360 got a shitty port. I'll just send it back and get the PS3 version.

the thing is i've bought the 360 version because i've read that is the superior version (compared to the ps3 one). that's why i didn't even bother to compare when i bought the GOTY edition later on.
could be that they fixed the ps3 version with patches but afaik it seems to be a problem with fallout 3 regardless of console.

I just got the GOTY version for PC; I've already beaten the regular version on PS3. What are the big mods everyone likes?

This game's PC version sorta hit the bargain bin in europe. The normal game is 8 GBP and the GOTY Edition is 13 GBP. Are the 5 DLCs included in the GOTY worth extra 5 GBPs? Are they any good?

Gaaah halp me Gaf!
I am playing GoTY edition and i had like only one save file damn it.
I was just walking around (i am level 15 now) and found the crashed alien ship and now i am at Mothership Zeta DLC! But its so booooooooooring there and i saved over my file! :( Is there anyway to return back to earth without finishing the DLC?

Nope, you should do it though it has some very nice loot. It's not that long, just a couple of hours.

I'd say its worth it. The amount of time added when all the DLC is put together equals out to another game.

Absolutely is worth the extra £5. Moreso than any other game, the DLCs are good. Especially Point Lookout. Also consider the prices of the DLC digitally.

Anyway, are there are any good rare loots in this game? I got the Experimental MIRV, T-1b Power Armor and all the bobbleheads etc.

If your repair skill is maxed and you've maxed out your carrying points, you can come back with thousands and thousands and thousands of caps worth of stuff from there. :D

Do whay I did in that crappy place and lower the difficulty to Very Easy just to get through it as quickly as possible.

Uh... playing the regular PS3 version.

Is there a way to fix this camera glitch? In third person view, at the start of the game, the camera is close to the player, like right over the shoulder. But then a few hours into the game it switches to some extremely useless view that is much further back.

I actually restarted my game because of it. And now about 5 hours into my next game it did it again. Wtf.

Am I retarded? Is there a way to get back the normal OTSV?

Of course (lol) I can't help you entirely, but I can say, yes, there's a way to change how far the camera is from your character. I wanna say maybe you hold L2 then move the right stick? Something like that. But the point is, yeah you can control the cam. Hopefully someone else can help more.

I didn't realize people actually played in third person view.

Depends on the situation. Bethesda's games have probably the worst animation of any "AAA" developer, so there are few instances where I prefer it. But just walking around, I do like the OTSV.

Still have yet to play this game. Been waiting until I got a good PC to play that version (I want to use mods). The only PC I have right now that can run the game is a netbook, which is supposed to get around 10-20fps outdoors and maybe 15-25FPS indoors. Is that playable, or should I just keep on waiting?

Wait. Especially if those framerates are with the default draw distance. Plus if you're going to run mods that enhance the graphics you'll reduce it even more.

:lol I position the camera so that the legs are just out of shot, goddamn jumping animation...or lack of.

Thanks, will go with Oblivion instead, or maybe just back to Morrowind.

EDIT: Although I've just found some videos and it looks pretty playable...

Just went ahead and bought the game. If it doesn't run well enough in the end, no big deal. Will just install on a better PC down the road.

The only mods I really am interested in are the ones that change the character models (better faces/hair/clothes/etc.) and the motorcycle mod.

All right, I'm about to order Fallout 3 GotY, PS3 version (I have no alternatives currently).

I'm reading about a huge amount of the problems with the DLC... Is this true? Is the game playable, or..?

Ok, so I'm on the Those! quest. When I met Doctor Lesko I accidentally pickpocketed his ass and he ran away. I couldn't find him again so I went on and did the quest anyway. I killed the ant guardians and the queen. I didn't get anything for it and when I talk to Bryan Wilks it's like the ants aren't dead. Do I have to find Lesko? Where can he be? Heeeeelp meeeee! I really want the achievement points for clearing the quest.

Isnt that strange lol.. It looks like they are using same animation rigs since Morrowind! Oh and they also have the worst character artists, especially the faces! Tho Fallout 3 has better looking humans than Oblivion.

He has two labs; a small one in the town (right next to where Bryan is hiding), and a larger lab located in the undergrounds (near the door that leads you to the ants queen). He must be in one of the two.

It is very playable, but as you progress the game will start to freeze for small intervals. I think it is related to the save file size, as it only tends to happens when that gets large. I played all the missions on PS3 GOTY, but still bought the PC GOTY and it is so much smoother, especially at the Broken Steel missions.

Yes, i only have problems with the last part of Broken Steel. And those problems (extremely low fps) where solved just restarting the PS3.

I also had the same problems, but less annoying, in Point Lookout.

End up with a 16 MB save file size...
