The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

What makes so much more embarrassing for these whiners is that Chiggs wrote a pretty fucking excellent post.

Indeed. He made that post purely to help other PC users and still gets shit on.

Well yes, I did find Oblivion not that great at all.

The game is really different than Oblivion. The setting is different, and way more interesting to me, and the combat is different. The VATS works extremely well. Also, the enemies don't level up with you.

It's just a different game than Oblivion and improves on everything that was criticized in that game. It's awesomeness all the way. Play it NOW.

It is definitely a lot better than Oblivion. There are some obvious and pretty glaring similarities and weaknesses that the two share, mainly having to do with the character interactions, but as a whole I don't get much of an Oblivion feeling from it (especially the environment and combat). And I'm having a lot more fun with FO3.

Can anyone give me a GENERAL idea of where the dog is? I don't want to know the exact spot but any leads would be appreciated.

He's in a junky place near a red thingy on the way to the field filled with mines. Miora might send you out that way if you're the helpful sort.

o.. i didn't know this was a "post pictures of the game we're all playing.. and tell us what video card you have thread".

brb... taking pic of xbox 360
I ask for specs earlier in the thread. Specs are a good thing to know because not everyone upgrades from one uber rig to another every year. Its always good to see if anyone is running a game you are interested in on a mid/low level rig.

I think this is pretty general:
the first part of the place rhymes with fap

What's this Fire Ant quest, anyway? Is it in Megaton? If so... I must have missed it, and could use a hand. If not... please disregard... I'll find it on my own.

if you looking at the map .. the town is to the right of megaton.. just follow the road and its a little bit off to the right as you're walking in 1st person.

I haven't had a lot of time to seriously sink my teeth into this game yet. Nor any time to really keep up with this thread.

One of my PC buddies in this thread, can you post or PM me the definitive tweak list or just email me the INI you think I should use on my rig? You know what my specs are.

I just want to have the best looking (and still playable) game on my PC before I really start playing.

I'm looking at you Chiggs, or Zzoram. :D

Thanks.

just finished the
big trouble in big town
side quest and LOVED it. can't remember the last time i enjoyed a side quest in a roleplaying game that much, actually. this game is awesome. i'm running around clipping dudes in an armored vault jumpsuit and a fedora :lol

Tweakguides will have their guide out soon.

Although my first playthrough is going to be a projection of myself as I outlined earlier, Fallout 3 might just be the first game I replay, with the intention of actually roleplaying. I never replay games... ever. There's just too many new releases. But I'm genuinely curious so see if any/all of the following builds could make it, in Capital Wasteland.

I don't even care if the build turns out to be impossible - in some ways, that might sort of be the point. These guys won't be me, after all. I just want to see whether these individuals could survive, out in the wild:

- A complete and total meathead. A muscle-bound idiot. No speech or intelligence, but maxed Endurance and Strength. No guns (his fingers are too fat and slow to work them), no stealth, no lockpicking or science. Always selecting the most direct dialogue options "Hey shut the fuck up and tell me what you want me to do." Hopefully he'd get his hands on the sledgehammer ASAP.

- A Ninja. Maxed agility and stealth. Pickpockets for what he needs. Lockpick expert. SILENT WEAPONS ONLY. That means melee, until he can get his hands on Burke's silenced pistols.

- Rico Suave. Is it possible to talk your way through the WHOLE game? Combat-free? Or at least running from the combat the game forces on you? Max Charisma & Speech. Lie to complete as many missions as you can. Perks in Lady's Man, the one that opens up new children's dialogue, etc. I like the idea of him running away from every Molerat, Radscorpion, Super Mutant, and Raider he ever encounters :lol

This is my only true complaint with Fallout 3. It's not the biggest complaint however, just more of a minor gripe.

All stats are positive in 3. I believe they did it so people wouldn't be afraid to specialize even more than some might not have in 1 and 2.

You see in Fallout 1 and 2, average stats were 5 across the board. If you had a stat lower than 5, you'd actually have a negative impact on your character. For example lower strength meant you couldn't use certain weapons and armors, low luck actually made you unlucky to the point where your weapon would jam or explode in your hands, low charisma would make certain people not even speak with you, and best of all, lower intelligence would literally make you a lunkhead. INT of 1 meant you couldn't even form words, you only communicated with grunts and gurgles.

3 changes all of this with every attribute starting at 1 being beneficial. You can communicate properly with an INT of 1, and I rolled my character with luck of 1 because there's no real penalty at all for it.

Like I said, its a minor gripe, and to be honest, playing a mentally challenged person in Fallout 1 and 2 was fun for about 30 seconds (no dialog options severely limits quest opportunities) but it was nice there were so many different ways to play the game. And FYI it was possible to beat the last boss in 1 without any combat what so ever. 2 on the other hand did require combat.

seeing my character, barabbas, wearing one of these like a 1920s gangster every time i shoot a super mutant using VATS is just icing on the cake. the game is just sooooo dope.

So who ("Finding the Garden of Eden" spoilers. + some "American Dream" ones, too,)
rescued Fawkes in Vault 87 trying to retrieve the GECK? I thought it was fucking rad when he showed up after I left the Enclave base.

looks sick .. probably not much for protection tho huh.

So will all PC games from now on only support the Xbox 360 controller? This is some great BS, first Far Cry now Fallout

I don't understand the timeline. The manual says the war was in 2077 but the game takes place 200 years later. So your dad took you and went into the vault like 180 years after and went into the vault? How'd they get in? The intro says the door never opens.

Are you saying FO3 only supports the 360 controller? I hadn't heard about that until now.

ugh. enter one of the things that annoyed the shit out of me in oblivion. You're talking to someone and their voice sounds one way. You stop talking to them, and inspect and item you could steal, and they warn you. But in a voice that's obviously different. I FUCKING HATE THIS.

You remember in Oblivion, when you would talk to the beggers and they'd be all like "alllms for the pooooor i'm just a poooor begggarrrrrrrr" and then you give them a coin and ask them for rumors and all of a sudden they're educated and speaking proper english. lol

never change, bethesda.

no wait, nevermind. change a few things. like your QA.

You should spoiler tag that... You're not supposed to find that out until you get into the story a bit. I've only started to get hinted of that, and I've been playing for a while.

After you kill a whole gang why can't you take their stuff without losing karma? I mean they are dead.
I killed the Family Gang but all the stuff in their place is still red. I want all that amo. I did get a nice coat off of Vances body though.

Actually if you read
the files on Ammatas dads computer it pretty much explains it in plain english.

You forgot Shadowrun, Halo 2, Bioshock, Gears of War, and Crysis.

All "Games for Windows" games are supposed to support the Xbox 360 pad, well there are some exceptions like The Witcher, Supreme Commander are all I can think of.

The game is love but damn those freezes are really sucky. Sometimes it just loads and loads and loads and nothing happens or it just outrights freeze right there and I gotta reset. I guess I just need to save more often.

Wait what? I thought I did read it. It was
Moriarty's computer
that first tipped me off.

I'm level 7, just got the Toughness perk and some power armor and a mini gun. Combat is intensely satisfying now.

Power Armor at lvl 7? That seems so fast. I'm almost level 5 and I've just done a few things for Megaton and am working on the Fire Ants.

This game has really grown on me. At first, I was somewhat disappointed, but over the last few hours of play I've become more and more impressed with the variety of skills and perks. This game slays Oblivion in so many ways.

Bravo, Bethesda.

glad you're enjoying it :)

I grenade spammed one of the Steel guys at a fort near the Roboco factory. I lost a bunch of Karma, but I made up for it by giving two bums some purified water.

Edit: One thing: I can't actually use the power armor. :lol

I haven't said anything that isn't in the manual or in the intro though.
The facts: it's 2277, the vault never opens, the war was in 2077. So I must be missing something.

Silly Megaton question:
Where's the Water Treatment plant? I have a couple quest issues to deal with there.

There are signs pointing to it. I think it's on a mid-level, there is writing on the outer wall labelling the place.

I feel so bad for
blowing up megaton
when i went back i missed my friends. =( supid owner of the motel just didnt like the view..wow

What are you playing on?

My 360 disc drive has already nicked up my disc, though it still works...

Anyway, I decided to (Megaton spoilers)
diffuse the bomb and spare the city. It's just too important for me at this point. Ammo, gossip, quests, etc make it indispensible. Plus the sheriff gave me a house :D Too bad the furniture is wildly expensive.

SOooooo anyone with the PS3 having it lag out when someone comes online? im having to sign out of PSN to successfully play my game >.<

Anyone else milking megaton for all it's worth before blowing it up? I feel obligated to kill the owner of craterside supply (mainly due to the voice acting) after I get all the xp and extra items from her.

Are many people running into glitches in the game?

I started playing and as soon as I got to the white 9 years later flash forward screen, the game just froze. I restarted quite a few times and still the same thing. So, I go back and exchange it because I thought it just might be a defective disc.

Now, I get the new game home, start it up... and of course it happened again at the very same spot.

Has anyone else run into this problem? Is there something wrong with my system? Anyone, help! I just want to play this game! I really hope it is not the machine. I don't think I could stand another repair wait!

So, now I guess I'm off to purchase Fable 2.
