The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

For fuck sake. I asked a simple question on another site and instead of telling me that I can get to the brotherhood citadel after a mission and telling me the name of it he says "You can get there after the mission where
Dad dies at Project Purity
."

What the fuck! The whole story is ruined now. >:(

So you go ahead and do pretty much the same thing.

Classy.

Where the Hell do I find Ian West?

There are three locations you're given to check. Two of those places don't lead to any clues.

If you go down the stairs into the station, you'll find a guy who mentions that he's seen the Family in a specific direction. You can go back to the overworld and head that direction, or you might also notice that he mentions you can get there through a passage in the subway station. If you want to take the latter route, look for a manhole.

Down in the metro section a ways north (i think) of Arefu. There's a ghoul that gives you money for sugar bombs you can access the tunnels through a manhole surrounded by radio active waste in his "home".

I need to do this because I keep getting disc errors but how are the loading times affected? Haven't seen any dvd vs hd comparisons for fallout yet.

No idea..just got fallout 3 for 360, so I haven't played without install :)

By the way, I want to get Simms's bottlehead, because I'm going to blow this bitch up, but uhm where is his house? I also can't find the armory for some reason.

When entering from the Megaton entrance it's directly to the right on the high ground. Use the local map on your Pipboy in town, gives you all the area entrances on highlight.

Ffs that's the dumbest way to do a fucking spoiler. Thanks alot.

Gah you fuckbag, don't even put shit like that in spoilers :(

I know it's my own fault but you say it was gonna be a big story spoiler. ARGH

I used a spoiler tag and said it ruins the story. What did you expect it was going to be?

Heres a nice idea. When someone says "It ruined the whole story". DON'T HIGHLIGHT THE SPOILER TAG, because you know whats under it? A spoiler, crazy enough. It's really not hard. I didn't just blurt it out like the other guy did.

Good lord I think I've totally chumpetized my playthrough by going somewhere I wasn't supposed to. I decided to do some random exploring in the southwestern area of the map for kicks and sidequests when I...

MAJOR MASSIVE SPOILER

Stumbled across my dad. Then he leads me to the Jefferson Memorial and we're fighting super mutants together. I just wanted to leisurely explore around and take the game really slow and now I feel like I've been thrust into the freaking end game already. I only just met Three Dog! I could reload my save and avoid finding him, but I can't play the game pretending I don't already know where he is. :\

Curse you, non-linearity!!

Holy shit this just happened to me yesterday too :lol
I had no freaking idea what I was doing...maybe just looking for a bobblehead. Then I had to put on the Vault 112 stuff and then I was transported to some psuedo 1950s neighborhood where some little girl who was actually an evil scientist wanted me to do all of this crazy shit :lol Then after the Chinese invasion shit I meet my Dad!?! I had only just finished the GNR mission so this was a huge surprise to me.

So awesome

Oh noes :( I used up all my mentats and still my skill level is only 21 :( how am I supposed to blow megaton up now!?!

Where can I get some mentats fast?

-edit-

nevermind, I had a helmet which had +5 explosives :P.

Lol I stumbled on that mission after I blew up Megaton in my pc game..that certainly was weird :P.

Two questions:

Where can I find the schematic for the Railgun? I know there is a computer in Rivet City in one of the residents rooms that says he has an idea how to build it, but I didn't find a schematic there.
/
The schematic is in the power station near Minefield. (directly north of where you start the game). I've heard you can buy it, but I stumbled upon it almost by accident.

I finished the game but luckily I saved just before the final mission began, so I've left to explore everything I missed!\

I don't care for the ending much, it's way too abrupt and lacks very much meaning

So I started posting on Bethesda's PC issues board about the "framerate skipping" issue ....I dunno, I'm kinda pissed about the whole thing at this point and sorta wish I could ditch my PC Collector's Editon and pick up a 360 version instead as at least the framerate is capped and this isn't an issue really

I flat out cannot get into the game at this point because of this! (>__<)

I found the FISTO!

Also, Tesla armor and plasma rifle rocks so hard.

If you've got 100 skill laser pew pew guns then Tesla and Enclave Hat doesn't help you does it? At least in the stats there's no + sign next to the 100, so I think i'm better off with the fuckawesome 100% condition mark I power armor

Question about those Talon mercs:

These guys keep popping up in different places hellbent on killing me. I picked up a note from one of them that detailed the contract of my killing but I have no idea why I'm targeted (could it be because I killed the guy that wanted me to blow up Megaton early in the game?). I finished Reilly's Rangers quest and that was the only time these guys were referenced but the info didn't help.

So what I really wanna know is,
will I find out more about those guys later on or do I have to discover their base and investigate from there?

If you're gonna reply, please no specifics, just a simple yes or no, or some vague answer or something lol; I don't want any kinda spoiler no matter how minor...That includes details of locations; I like exploring and discovering places....I just love this game too damn much :D

Yeah I'm wondering about these guys too. Came across a SatCom Array and found them attacking me from it. I went in and killed them and came across a dead scientist who had the code for an orbital missile platform :lol I saw the terminal to punch in the code but I decided to hold off incase I need to use it some other time. Completely random and awesome, though.

I'm about 12 hours in now, rolling through super mutants, and I've gotta say that Bethesda has outdone themselves. The way everything comes together is amazing. I literally feel like I'm scavenging for supplies. I'm usually too poor to buy or repair anything, so I just use weapons until their condition degrades and then just discard them.

Basically, what I'm saying is that FO3's need for you to conserve ammo/supplies actually adds to the immersion.

I hope all of the insecure haters have eaten their share of crow, because FO3 is quickly becoming my favourite WRPG ever.

nah looking at nma, they hate it (suprise...), I like it though, I feel we are lucky to even have a fallout 3 game, after watching my other 2 fav franchises roll over and die (Shadowrun, and X-Com), at least we have something that doesnt suck ass *imo*. If they could just tweak the ai (this was one of the things that black isle was great at, anticipating, you doing crazy shit, off the beaten path, as evilore has posted about earlier), animation (it just feels kinda stilted), and mebbe make the talking "viewpoints" more dynamic itd be a total classic with the past 2. Good Job tho Stevemeister, I hated vanilla oblivion and I love vanilla fallout 3. I look forward to DLC, or an expansion.....*cough* ortheofficialsdkreleasedIheartuforeverplspls*cough*.

I could be wrong about this but, when i was evil the Regulators were sent to kill me and now that I'm good the Talon Mercs are sent, I think it has to do with that Finger/Ear perk you can choose

has anyone noticed the female ghouls va sounds just like the village elder from fallout 2, I wonder if its the same voice actress, i was just waiting for one of the ghouls to call me "Chosen One"

has anyone done there own comparisons between the 360 Console and PC versions with regards to graphics? I have games started on both versions, and the PC does have sharper textures and better draw distance to an extent. But playing it on my 40" samsung, I can honestly say that the differences are negligable. My PC is more than capable, and I run it at 1600X800

Never did find Moriarty yesterday, so I went back to exploring the north west. Man, that is one dangerous stretch of land. I got ganged up on by 4 Yao Guai (SP?)and absolutely slaughtered. I think my armor must be in need of repair. :lol

Oh i will buy it even though im prepared for a very different game....still i need to finish fallout 2 first. Still have the savegames even though there might not be a whole lot of story crossover to the third one or am i wrong?

That's a fascinating resolution.

This sounds awesome...Did it look like a scripted event or more like some weird glitch? So many crazy details in this game I wouldn't be surprised if it was an intended, scripted event because they do mention his mental health problems and you can even talk to the priest about it.

Right when I walked out onto the platform he started doing his run and went right for the spot without the guard rail so it may have been scripted. It just struck me as odd since there was a security guard standing up there as well and he didn't say anything about what had just happened. I'll have to check with the priest to see if he says anything about it.

I was hoping there'd be a way I could buy Gob's freedom, but with Moriarty gone and Gob not having any new dialogue options, I guess that's a no go. Oh well, at least with Moriarty gone, he and Nova can run the Saloon happily.

Try hooking your pc up to your 40" samsung and then marvel at a vastly superior version.

If I remember it has to do with your karma being too high or too low.

thats exactly what I thought would be an option, also later you find a ghoul who mentions him, so i thought there would be a quest to reunite them, but nowt.

I'm surprised about the people not being able to find things too. Usually it's marked clearly or you can deduce it from what has been said about the quest.
Also, speaking of the compass. I think it's much improved over Oblivion's. It is far easier to ignore as things aren't indicated as clearly and I feel it's smaller or at least its icons are and they don't show what they're pointing at.

I started a new run last night, and decided I was going to go to Big Town first thing to do the fast level up trick. (I've beaten the game once honestly now, I figure I'm OK to cheat a little on this run.) So I have no idea where Big Town is. I never went there during my first run, but I remember the guy in Little Lamplight saying where it it. So I wander all over the wastes until finally I run into Little Lamplight. I go in, find Sticks, and he says, "Big Town is just East of here."

I spent the next hour looking for it. Sticks either died or got lost five minutes in. I spent an hour going dead east, then southeast, then northeast from Little Lamplight, and I swear I could not find the stupid town.

Finally I loaded an old save and went back to talk to Sticks again. When I got him, I noticed the little note that it was on my map. I thought that referred to a waypoint, but when I went and looked, there was Big Town, dead north of Vault 101.

Then I couldn't find Bittercup, but that's another story.

yeah! what's up with that i wonder? the ghoul lady in the museum of history, carol, who mentions him, and they both seem to care about each other quite a bit. how bizarre to not at least have these two exchange a letter or something. and yeah, considering how miserable gob is at moriarty's, i thought they were foreshadowing his eventual departure

If you're nice to Gob, he'll ask you to go see her and tell her he's all right. I told her he was working as a Slave. She seemed concerned, but said it'd be too dangerous to do anything about. Well, I made up my mind to do something, but there's nothing to do.

Hold the right bumper down on the item you want to hot key and set it with the d-pad. Now when you tap that on the d-pad, you'll instantly use or equip that item.

Can anyone tell me where to find Grayditch? I've been scouring the countryside west of Springvale, but I can't find it.

Also, did anyone have problems with the Tenpenny Tower quest?
I can't find the ghoul guy to talk to him about moving into the tower or kill him. I talked to the captain of the guards and Allister Tenpenny, but when I went down to the train yard and metro station tunnels, I couldn't find the main ghoul. For some reason it's not listed as a quest for me currently, either. Not sure why as I think I've run into the dialogue options that should activate it.

If you shift to neutral, do those guys stop coming after you? Or do I have to deal with this for the rest of the game? At least they have good weapons and armor for me to pillage once I kill them.

Thanks.

Head to Arlington. It's the patch of green outside of DC on your map. Megaton side of the small green patch in the south east.

I just did the sidequest in Canterbury Commons and now I have two superhero costumes. It was awesome.
I convinced the Antagonizer to give up with a speech option and she gave me her outfit. I tried it on to see how it looked but forgot to unequip it again. So I head for the Mechanist's hideout and when I reach him he's all "Aha! It's the vile Antagonizer!" and starts shooting me. I had no idea I had the outfit equipped so it was confusing as hell for a few seconds. I kill him, then load game and convince him to give me his armor with my black widow perk. His suit looks great with the ant mask on top of it.

I love this game. I was expecting this to be my goty but even still it's managed to exceed expectations. To be honest, I was expecting a bit more Oblivion. Like when all the previews talked about a 'dungeon' called the super duper mart I figured it was one of those dungeon templates like cave and ruins and I'd find super duper marts all over the place, but there's just one of them in the whole game. There's some copy-paste for sure, but it's never as noticeable as in Oblivion and it never feels like you're exploring the same location twice. A lot of the smaller places that don't even show up on your map have these little 'stories' behind them in the form of audio logs, terminal entries and so forth. There's so much cool, unique stuff to be found when you're randomly exploring.

I'm at level 20 already, I tagged the +10% exp perk twice and I kinda wish I hadn't now, as there's still big sections of the map I haven't been to and in the story I only just did Tranquility Lane, which by the way was such a great quest.
I solved the puzzle in the abandoned house before I harrassed any of the villagers, but in my next playthrough I'll be evil and I'll terrorize the town. The chinese soldiers shooting the villagers was very holy shit tho. And the dog :lol

I'm not sure, but I heard it doesn't matter once they have a bounty on you. So going to the opposit end of the spectrum could possibly bring both Regulators and Talon Mercs after you. Now that would be funny. I'll try it when I get home tonight.

Alright, I need help with the Replicated Man quest:
I've talked to Pinkerton, etc. etc., now I'm looking to find Harkness to warn him--where the hell is he? I've searched everywhere throughout Rivet City, is there a particular spot he hangs around??

The Rock-It Launcher is fun. Those mutilated arms and legs you pick up from random gore piles that go in your inventory, you can actually use as ammo for that gun, along with other misc items. There's nothing quite like rocketing a severed arm into someone's face in VATS.
