The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Just caught a small 45 second dev diary type commercial on FX. I dont see it on any site yet. The devs spent time talking about taking over the ip, their direction and the overall game. It was pretty good and got me even more hyped for next week.:lol

Really is. Like I say, I'm not one for visual comparisons, but there's a big difference. The 360 game seems to have more detail, it's definitely sharper and feels slightly smoother, too.

Half the time I have to have the differences in side-by-side comparison vids pointed out to me, but I actually said "Jesus" out loud when I emerged into the wastes on 360 after playing the PS3 version.

As an aside, I'm finding the game to be a bit of a slog. There's more walking than in the LOTR trilogy. Extended editions.
Meh...it's very strange because my friend who played on Lipsia he said ps3 version was little better, really, and ign too don' talk about in its preview. I have a doubt: it's possible ps3 version has the same blurried effect of bioshock who cause lack of detail? Do you try at different resolution (720p and 1080p)? Very strange situation...

Well, he's either lying or has bad eyesight. Given that I have a PS3 mag backing me up on this, I think GAFers can make their own minds up.

The PS3 doesn't have a 'blurried effect' - in fact, the jaggies are far more noticeable in the PS3 version. Wouldn't surprise me if it was running at a slightly lower resolution, TBH.

My TV is one of those which has a 1080p setting, but isn't true 1080p (it's a 32" Panasonic Viera) - I noted that the setting automatically changed to 720p on the PS3 version while it was loading - as it did with GTA, and that turned out to be less than 720p.

Hey you've got both versions, can you take some comparison pics? You said the difference in quality was especially noticeable when you step out into the wasteland or something. I wanna see that.

Well he isn't lying or has bad eyesight, because is a reviewer, I repeat probably in Lipsia ps3 build code was more advanced of 360 version at this point. However the story of resolution it's another strange point: oblivion engine on ps3 was 720p and on 360 600p, now the opposite? Meh...Bethesda don't stop to surprise me of this fallout 3 ps3 version. I really appreciate to have a screen comparison at this point, just to see with my eyes.

hrm/1?

I think reviewers are just as capable of developing eyesight issues as the next guy:lol

hrm/1? What fuck means? However I have just said it sounds like strange, no more, because apart my friend (and it's very strange who notice the opposite during a game convention) there a lot of preview don't talk about.

Until the one they call Jayne can offer up some screenshots, you really can't assume this is anything but another fanboy wiping his ass on Sony with false information before a multiplatform release. Of course, some screen caps that haven't seen some negative doctoring and level adjustment, those might convince otherwise.

:lol Well now, that's a real incentive to take time out of my day to do that. Besides, my screengrabber can only take 480p grabs and it takes some time to setup.

Also, given that I own two PS3s and that I'm a little pissed off at Microsoft at the moment since my debug 360 RRODed, I'm not entirely sure how my comment can be construed as fanboyism. Well, actually I know exactly why that is - people in glass houses and all that.

Don't believe me if you're really that desperate not to, but we'll see who's right when the game's released.

So this may end up one if the shittiest multiplatform releases on PS3? In comparsion to the 360 version that is.

Sad.

It's like they're taking a dump on ps3 versions. Don't bother making them.

I'd want to see some comparison pics for both consoles. It can't be that bad. I mean, the Oblivion engine ran really good on PS3 and even had some features that didn't exist in the X360 version... what the hell?

Where's that trusty Japanese blogger who had the intensive comparison list?

Edit: reading all of this has made me lean toward the 360 version, even though I would imagine my PS3 lasting a great many years longer than that ugly Microsoft console. Meh.

Wasn't there a patch released for the 360 version that made it native 720p and added the extra graphical effects. I am definitely sure that the Game of the Year version included these.

As long as the PS3 version isn't a slide show I'm fine with it. People seem to always blow these things waaaaaay out of proportion. I mean, back when Orange Box was released, some reviewers said it was near unplayable because of the framerate...but to be honest it was perfectly fine for me (even before the patch).

True, you just saved my day, Mr White Knight in Shiny armour.

Yea I think people (including me) are over reacting.

To the point where I'm considering downloading Qore #5 just to see what the footage there looks like. :S

Exactly. I also managed to play through Oblivion on the PS3 version (not saying 360 version is better, just saying I've not played it) and that game ran in 20-25 fps so anything above that is a huge plus (I didn't find it bad at all).

OH NOEZ IT BEGGINZ AGAINZ!

Read my post again. If you were serious, that is :)

A patch who change native resolution? Forgive me, how it's possible? And most importantly why?

Gamestop used to advertise a free poster and CD as a preorder bonus, but now they have removed it from their site.

Makes me wonder if they just ran out of stock for new pre-orders (first come, first serve), or if they are trying to bail out of that deal entirely.

Sorry I forgot to put a question mark at the end of the sentence.
Ah, ok. Well I know a patch on 360 was out later, who optimized the code, reduce pop up and slowdown but I really doubt it can change native resolution, maybe it upscale.

It's quite possible... you simply patch the game up to the latest version of the engine.

Whether or not they did is another thing entirely.

Yes it is possible. Increasing the native resolution improves the quality of the image. If they did it, it was a result of improvements made to the engine after the game's initial release.

I realize that this is a really noob question, but does XP support GFW Live? (I am a new PC owner)

Should work on XP, yeah. The game should install it for you.

EDIT: BEATEN ARGHHFGHF

Prob the PC version for me too, can anyone chime in on whether they my laptop will run it decently (highest graphics settings)?

CORE 2 DUO T7200 2.0 GHz 4MB
GeForce Go 7950 GTX w/512MB
2048MB DDR2 667 (2 DIMMS)
Windows XP Home

I have the same question. These are the specs of my new system:

Intel Core2 Duo CPU E6750 @ 2.66GHz
GeForce 8800 GTS 512
2048MB DDR2 667
Windows Vista Ultimate

I preordered the PC version, planning on playing it on my HTPC (E8400, ATI 4850) with wireless 360 controller and logged into Live.

If at 720p it doesn't run better than the 360 version I'm gonna hate myself for getting the wrong version.

As a multiplatform owner, I usually tend to be a Sony Fanboy about these things and get the PS3 version of the game if it is identical... but it doesn't seem to be the case this time. Should this be my first 360 multiplatform game?

I want some screens or reliable comparisons before I commit to a platform.

I'd prefer PS3 version cause I know the console will last the games length but if its a dog.. 360 it is!
