However, I have a strong feeling that the GAF hate-train is going to hit this game hard.

I'm not a fan of the series either, but browsing through numerous GAF impressions and review scores, it seems we're in the minority.Haeleos said:They seemed pretty forgiving for how mediocre Fable II is, so I'm not so sure.

I can believe this if only because GAF generally hates Oblivion, a game I loved and put more hours into this generation than any other.DevelopmentArrested said:I've played 5 hours of Fallout 3 now and I absolutely love it.

I might be a test subject for this on laptops. I have 2 lappy's one with a 8600gt and an hd 2600. Kind of pissing me off that this game might not run well for me when I can run witcher ee and farcry 2 med/high mixture no problem.Red Blaster said:I'm guessing this could run on low/med settings on one of the new MacBooks?

Oblivion may have "needed" mods in your opinion but I certainly had a blast with it without them and it's not as if people like you were going ape-shit before Oblivion came out saying you wouldn't play it until it got modded.

Vyse The Legend said:Some notes from my 15hrs or so of playtime:
1. Combat is f-ing fun. VATS is awesome, and it never gets hold dropping two Super Mutants in a single turn. I can see the issues people are having with real-time combat -- the cursor is tiny and there is no aim-assist. On the 360, that is an issue, because enemies move very quickly. On the PC, it should be 100% fine.
2. As a gigantic FO1 and 2 fanboy, I am disappointed with Perlman's opening monologue. It's well-delivered but simply not engaging. Also, it takes an unnecessary jab at FO2's. Do not approve.
3. For the FO n00bs out there, stay away from the "Strength" stat unless you are going for a melee build (which you shouldn't).

Kintaro said:So, what's the point of it then?
Zzoram said:Melee damage
If Fallout 1 and 2 are any indication, it alters carry weight. You could get through the first 2 with only about 4-5 points invested in strength.Kintaro said:I got that part. If the point is melee combat, which he shouldn't bother doing, what's the point of the stat then? That's what I was asking Vyse.
That holds true in FO3 as well. It's worth putting a point into.Rodeo Clown said:If Fallout 1 and 2 are any indication, it alters carry weight. You could get through the first 2 with only about 4-5 points invested in strength.
Hazaro said:Is INT a good option? Just how many more points do I get going with that?
Isn't that how everybody played Fallout 1 and 2? I should be right at home in 3.Vyse The Legend said:As far as skills go, eventually you're going to want to focus on two weapon sets. I did Small Weapons for the beginning, and then did Energy Weapons when they started becoming common.
Traditionally in FO games, focusing in just Small Weapons bites you in the ass later in the game when you start fighting enemies with resistance to ordinary weaponry.
Nothing.... when you kill insects or run out of ammo.Kintaro said:So, what's the point of it then?
Melee is under-rated. I cleared out an entire cave full of raiders last night with a melee weapon I built.Mesijs said:Nothing.... when you kill insects or run out of ammo.

Not very. You find/buy schematics and then scour the wastes finding the parts required to build said schematic. Then find a work bench and build it. Saying that - the weapons you can build generally aren't available any other way. And this specific melee weapon is awesome.Zeliard said:How deep does the weapon building go?
