The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

I've played 5 hours of Fallout 3 now and I absolutely love it.

However, I have a strong feeling that the GAF hate-train is going to hit this game hard.

They seemed pretty forgiving for how mediocre Fable II is, so I'm not so sure.

apparently I mentioned how much Fable II sux
after completing the main quest
and some of the just quoted my HOME avatar instead or arguing the valid criticism that I presented.

I'm not a fan of the series either, but browsing through numerous GAF impressions and review scores, it seems we're in the minority.

Of course, I may be the only person here who doesn't have the slightest interest in LBP. I was more fascinated with the craziness surrounding the delay fiasco than any actual interest in the game itself.

Apparently I did argue your 'valid' criticism and you just ignored it and responded to my comment about your atrocious spelling and grammar instead.

Am I right in thinking that although the game doesn't include a foldout map, there should be a reasonably detailed in-game map?

I can believe this if only because GAF generally hates Oblivion, a game I loved and put more hours into this generation than any other.

I want to believe in this game. I really, really do. Despite all my concerns and issues I'm still thinking about buying it.

I know everyone wants this game to be nothing like Oblivion but I am seriously hoping to god that it is just like Oblivion. If Fallout 3 can give me half the enjoyment that Oblivion did then I will be buying this game for sure.

Im waiting for Gaf impressions on this game from people who LOVE Oblivion.

Must...resist watching.....

Alright that's it...I'll watch for ONE MINUTE.
Same here... and I'm liking what I'm seeing!

But, er... entomophobes might have a tough time in these dungeons. Some of that stuff is just nasty.

I think for everybody who loves Oblivion, you will like this even more.

I wasn't a big fan of Oblivion but to me Fallout 3 is an amazing game. I think for the Oblivion junkies who like this setting, Fallout 3 is more than the perfect game.

It's just such an amazing game... don't really know what to say about it specifically. I'm playing PS3 by the way, it's totally ok. Yeah, whiners will whine, but I didn't encounter a single technical issue that even altered me enjoying the game in the slightest way possible.

my CE from amazon will be arriving tmr, cant wait

i luv Oblivion so much, so dun give a damn to Oblivion with guns, Oblivion with guns is wat i want exactly! :lol

I'm guessing this could run on low/med settings on one of the new MacBooks?
I might be a test subject for this on laptops. I have 2 lappy's one with a 8600gt and an hd 2600. Kind of pissing me off that this game might not run well for me when I can run witcher ee and farcry 2 med/high mixture no problem.

I think what he was saying is that it's pretty dumb to say that graphical mods or any mods of any kind are going to be necessary on a game that you have never even played.

Oblivion may have "needed" mods in your opinion but I certainly had a blast with it without them and it's not as if people like you were going ape-shit before Oblivion came out saying you wouldn't play it until it got modded.

Actually, I did this. I bought the game, waited until some good mods were out and then played it. Then again, I was a Morrowind mod junkie so I knew how much better the game would be with mods.

Impressions in a bit!

I dig what I see on the stream, but after watching it, I yet again realize that watching other people play games is boring as hell. =/ Everything is a headshot. Try something else! =(

Damn you...

Some good new for me though: my Collectors Editon from circuitcity.com shipped today! And instead of an estimated arrival of Friday, it changed to Thursday :D :D :D

Ye...yeah that's the one. Truly a "mediocre" game :lol

On topic, Fallout 3 should be great. The generally positive impressions from those who weren't overly fussed by Oblivion are a positive omen for me. I was expecting to wake up to reviews today, but I guess that's not until tomorrow.

Lurking this thread...Anyone who has this game currently, would you be willing to post your character build specs? What you chose and why or how you plan to mature your character with the skills?

(Picking my game up tonight at midnight)

Thanks.

Some notes from my 15hrs or so of playtime:

1. Combat is f-ing fun. VATS is awesome, and it never gets hold dropping two Super Mutants in a single turn. I can see the issues people are having with real-time combat -- the cursor is tiny and there is no aim-assist. On the 360, that is an issue, because enemies move very quickly. On the PC, it should be 100% fine.

2. As a gigantic FO1 and 2 fanboy, I am disappointed with Perlman's opening monologue. It's well-delivered but simply not engaging. Also, it takes an unnecessary jab at FO2's. Do not approve.

3. For the FO n00bs out there, stay away from the "Strength" stat unless you are going for a melee build (which you shouldn't).

Is INT a good option? Just how many more points do I get going with that?

So, what's the point of it then?

Damn, I want this game for my Japanese XBOX360, but unfortunately it looks like the US version is region-locked..

WTF MAN!? And the Asian version doesn't even have a release date? I might not be playing this game at all this year... Damn you!

Melee damage

I got that part. If the point is melee combat, which he shouldn't bother doing, what's the point of the stat then? That's what I was asking Vyse.

If Fallout 1 and 2 are any indication, it alters carry weight. You could get through the first 2 with only about 4-5 points invested in strength.

I bumped my Strength on a second character after constantly running into 'you are encumbered' problems with my first. Don't believe the anti-hype - Strength is more than just melee damage!

That holds true in FO3 as well. It's worth putting a point into.

Hazaro said:

I believe every INT point gives you one extra skill point per level (also effects Repair, Medicine, etc.). INT is a great skill to pump points into, as is LUCK (criticals and raises all skills by a bit). Perception is great if you want to excel at Energy Weapons; Agility for small weapons and sneaking skills.

As far as skills go, eventually you're going to want to focus on two weapon sets. I did Small Weapons for the beginning, and then did Energy Weapons when they started becoming common.

Traditionally in FO games, focusing in just Small Weapons bites you in the ass later in the game when you start fighting enemies with resistance to ordinary weaponry.

Pro-tip: If you want to master Big Guns just for the Fatman (portable nuke launcher), don't. Even if you have terrible accuracy, the splash damage is so great that you can't miss.

As stated, Strength affects how much you can carry, but there is a perk (strong back, I believe) that allows you to carry 50lb. more than usual. So, it's not that big of a deal.

That said, Power Armor is heavy, so don't reduce Strength to 1. :lol

Isn't that how everybody played Fallout 1 and 2? I should be right at home in 3.

I was gonna go get this tonight, but the wife is throwing a fit about it...YOU ALREADY BOUGHT 3 GAMES IN THE PAST WEEK!?!?! ARG!

:lol

Smack her and go buy your game. Its Fallout for christ sakes. And your money too.

Unless its her money. Then you best listen to her.

Zeliard said:
How deep does the weapon building go?
Not very. You find/buy schematics and then scour the wastes finding the parts required to build said schematic. Then find a work bench and build it. Saying that - the weapons you can build generally aren't available any other way. And this specific melee weapon is awesome.
