The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

This whole Windows Live integration is kind of a pain. I have an Xbox but other people play it in the house, so at any time the PC and Xbox are both on with different people playing each one. Unfortunately you can only log into one machine at a time. I realized last night I couldn't even load my games if I wasn't signed on but couldn't sign on because it would kick the Xbox (and the person using it) offline.

What exactly is the method of making the games you saved while playing connected to Live available to play when you're offline? Then if that's possible is it like Xbox Live in the fact that achievements you earn offline are automatically awarded to your gamertag when you do finally log into it? Or do you have to be connected to Live at the time you earn the achievement for it to count?

Any one know?

I just picked this up for the PC earlier today (boxed version) and I must say this game is absolutely amazing. Some of the impressions had me worried that the game wouldn't feel like Fallout at all, but I think it captures the Fallout feeling pretty well. I just got to Megaton so I haven't played much, but my early impressions are that the game is very, very good. It seems like the game runs better than Oblivion, too.

I'm doing my first game as a Female melee evil character, on Hard. Hopefully things work out :lol

Str 8
Per 8
End 8
Chr 2
Int 3
Agi 7
Luck 4

My 2nd playthrough I plan to do Male gunslinger good character, on Very Hard.

Err..no you don't. I'd say the reward for blowing up Megaton is even greater than that of saving it. Just finish your business there before you do it or you will regret it later.

Meh i actually thought they would make the choice matter. But the initial reward sounds about the same.

Anyone else think the first 1-2 hours of this game is a bit too difficult? Shit ammo, no real direction. It almost seems like it tries to go the survival-horror route.

My god, this game is amazing. I really didn't care for Oblivion, but I've already played for a few hours. Just
met Three Dog and agreed to go to the Washington Monument for him.

Maybe it depends on your play style, but I personally came out of the vault with multiple pistols and close to 150 bullets as well as a baseball bat and a bunch of armor and other random items.

It does matter. You get different options later in the game depending on what you do. If you don't finish your business in Megaton before blowing it up you lose all of those quests too. Not to mention you can no longer use the place as a trading post.

Sounds like classic Fallout to me. The first few hours are always a struggle in Fallout games.

If you think this is hard, you should try Fallout 2's tutorial. You might never get past it :lol

After the initial couple hours in the game I am starting to settle in and become more badass. In the
super duper mart
I killed 3 people with a single grenade in VATS. It was a thing to remember.

It's still not easy. I found a stash of lil nukes I am using on them, I feel so bad because I have bloody mess :lol

I took me like 3 tries when I first tried that. The spear always misses and the radscorpions are vicious. It's ridiculous.

So far I'm enjoying the game a lot, and enjoying how different it is from Elder Scrolls.

That is until I took my first quest after leaving the Vault in Megaton...which eventually led to a cult of vampires. :lol

Still lovin' the the game though.

Fuck. fuck fuck fuck. Fucking glitch scared the crap out of me
the queen ant warped in front of my face

i jumped as her textures loaded in and shrieked :(

I can't afford the game until next week. Someone, please post some high-res PC screens to tide me over.

Create a new silver profile, since Xbox Live is free for PC now, you won't lose any features of Xbox Live either.

runs pretty well on my pc (mostly full detail, turned down some distant LOD stuff to 75%, runs at 45-50 FPS)

It was bloody hard I resorted to dropping frag mines between myself and the ants and running like crazy.

It's the cabinet to the left of his computer terminal.

This is wrong, when you
pickpocket Moriarty you get his office key. The cabinet lock isn't for an office key it's just a lock to be picked. You just get his terminal password from the cabinet which grants you access to his terminal. Where is Moriarty's "Office"?? I also can't find it.

Can anyone sign into GFW Live through the steam version? It keeps telling me I need to enter the product key but there is nowhere to do so?

Played a few hours on my MBP tonight. Trolling through Megaton and getting a good feel for everything still.

Feels like an oblivion sequel, but instead of playing the real game, I just downloaded a total conversion Fallout mod. Not an original statement, but it does give that impression straight away.

When the game gets frustrating or boring, it's very easy to slip into a gentle save-load rampage, though much more difficult to survive with everyone else dead than it was in Oblivion.

Is it not upstairs? I think his room is up there.

Care to elaborate?

I blew it up, but haven't bothered with any quests since then. Are you basically stuck at that point?

Someone answer this please. This is the kind of question that'll determine whether or not I buy the game this week or a few months from now.

And the Steam = mod problems thing, of course.

You'll be fine. Lostconfused (as his name suggests) is lost and confused. The whole game is about the consequences of your actions. Things will change depending on your choice but you will never be stuck.

So basically, unless the game drops a ton of shit on me as I continue playing, it looks like there are fewer sidequests but they are longer and more developed. Which is great and exactly what I wanted. Greater focus is what this game needed and deserved.

There's still a lot of side quests. I'm playing through for the second time and am amazed how many I missed. But yes, in general, they are longer and more developed.

Anyone know what the time scale is in the game? It seems fast, like 1 hr. game time = 5 min. real time. Too fast, at any rate.

Also, tell me I can find/buy/steal binoculars at some point. That would be excellent.

I'm not making a guess as to how many there are, just how many there are relative to Oblivion. Oblivion is just stupid sidequest after stupid sidequest when the ones I've done here have been really quite meaty (one took me two hours).

Actually, when you click on LIVE, and tell it to log you in it will ask you for the activation code.

Unfortunately, my code isn't working for some reason. Anyone have this problem?

What settings and frames per second are your 9600 managing?

Yeah they're definitely more fleshed out. I was quite surprised how long it takes to do some of the earlier sidequests actually.

That is weird when I walked up to the lockbox it gave me the message "open with key". There is also a locked door upstairs I cannot get into.

Funny, I've just played for three hours and thought it was pretty easy. Of course, I played Fallout 2.

hahahaaaaa man the loot is good so far in this game. I'm pleasantly surprised at the stockpile of weapons i am building... :D :D :D

One thing I'm not sure if I like or not yet, is how the merchants actually run out of money to buy stuff from you, and the only way for them to replenish their money is for you to buy from them or for them to get a shipment in. Makes inventory management a challenge, but a good one I think.

Oh and I've been playing Oblivion for the last two months. When I first got out into the open world in FO3 I started jumping over and over again to raise my acrobatics skill.... DUR :D

I'm playing on Hard and making my way out of Vault 101. It hasn't been hard, although I can't figure out how to drop items, and I'm overencumbered.

Highlight them, press X, if you're on the 360.

I've found it awesome against ants. It wears down pretty quickly but its so much better than wasting ammo.
