The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Aah! I was walking around somewhere when I saw a scavenger who told me he was headed to Big Town to
loot what was left because it had been attacked by super mutants. So I went over there and walked into town, and it turned out the guy was right. I killed the mutants but there was no one left in town. Even the wounded guy in doc red's office was gone
:(
Is there any way to avoid this?

I had no idea that could happen.

Did you
save the town before? I went to big town early on and helped them fight off the super mutant attack, and am now considered the savior of big town. If you hadn't done that yet, maybe there is an in game time limit before it is too late and big town is destroyed?

You have to complete the BIG TOWN side quest, and when you return with the two friends, they will say that the mutants are going to attack soon and you just offer to help them destroy the mutants.

Thanks, guys. I did complete the Big Town sidequest and I do remember them still asking me for help after that.
I guess I just stayed away too long :lol

Minor Spoilers relating to followers
Well I thought you could only have 1 follower and dogmeat with you. I found out if you kill or dogmeat gets killed you can get another follower. Right now I have Charon and Jericho and its amazing :D

Does this work only if you already have one follower when
Dogmeat dies
or does that not matter?

Lincoln Memorial Help

I cleaned out the memorial, and Hannibal told me to meet him and the others there, but they weren't anywhere to be seen when I went back to the memorial. Is there a specific place they pop out?

Lol, yeah I tried that for like 20 seconds, but in that time, I could have drank the toilet and be 6 times faster in gaining rad. Otherwise, I would have to leave Fallout 3 alone, which you can't even alt tab, and do something else. That's not really playing.

Huh? I do it constantly. I have Fallout 3 running all day and just alt-tab out when I need to.

It takes them a long time to get there, usually more than 3 game-days. If you're on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial looking towards the Washington Monument, they'll come up from the left.

Gah, I'm stuck on the Replicated Man quest, but I'm not quite ready to resort to the strategy guide.

Can anyone tell me if there's another way into the Rivet City bow without having to pick the 100 skill lock on the entrance door? Don't be specific, just 'yes' or 'no' ... and at least I'll know if I should keep searching the area. Danke!

Yes, there is a way to get in without ever touching the locked door. I found it accidentally before I knew about the quest.

Spoilers and question concerning the "You got to shoot em in the end" sidequest :
I think I broke the quest and I can't finish it.

So i took the quest from the ghoul in Underworld. I said yes, i would kill the guys for him. After that, I talked to numerous people in underworld that told me the guy was a crook, and the people he told me to kill are good people. So I went back and told him I wouldnt kill them anymore (exact line was something like "Fuck you ill keep the keys to myself"). So the guy starts shooting at me, and everyone in town also shoots at me. I came back numerous game days latter, and the town was ok with me but each time I get near to the guy, he shoot at me.

So I decided to go see the guys I need to kill, to end the quest another way. The 1st I saw was the guy in Rivet City. I have 100 speech so he gave me the key. Went back to give it to the dude in underworld, but he was still hostile.

So I went to tenpenny tower, talked to tenpenny about my situation, and tenpenny offers me 300 caps to kill the ghoul. At this point I thought it was a good way to end the quest, so I went and killed the Ghoul.

After that, the quest says "collect your prize from tenpenny". I went to tenpenny, but he keeps telling me to go kill the ghoul, even if I did it. So at this point I think I broke the quest system, and wont ever be able to get this achievement.

The only workaround Im thinking of, is to go see the other 2 guys I was suppose to kill at the beginning, but I have little hope.

Any idea how I can get out of this situation ?

Good deal, so you straightened it out then? Really, BTown is only useful for a bed IMO, but it's a nice hideout/resting spot.

Is there some setting you have to choose? Alt-tabbing for me pauses the game automatically.

Lol, yeah I tried that for like 20 seconds, but in that time, I could have drank the toilet and be 6 times faster in gaining rad
You can also drink from the water right next to the bomb and accumulate 20 rads each drink along with 2 rads/sec you're getting from just standing there.

God dammit Steam. It says it's finished installing, but this patch just so happens to take 1 hour, 57 minutes. What the fuck.

This raider was out on a sunset swim :lol

It really depends on the experience you are looking for.

Makes me wonder if NPCs can get rad poisoning.

Also, it's nice to know I'm not the only person playing a female character. It's pretty neat to realize that most of the dialog is gender specific. However, I once had a little kid say "Excuse me, mister" and another guy kept calling me "Dude". I guess they missed some. :)

Are there any plot things that involve it? Like in the KOTORs, you could seduce, uh, fall in love with various plot members depending on whether you started as male or female.

You can't make pretty weminz with this engine :lol

I was making my character before I realized I was under the "Female" option.

Yeah...

Also, don't worry Blizzard. AFAIK no love interests besides some cunt who shacks up in your bed.

Does anyone else love the Galaxy Radio soundtrack lol?

The best song is easily Butcher Pete, makes me laugh everytime. Wtf does "Chomping all the womens meat" mean ??

I love this game so much I'll pay good $ to get a full set of figures showcasing quality Bobbleheads, Enclave, Brotherhood of Steel Scribe and Paladin as well as Ranger armors.

Nope, its "Bingo! Bongo! I don't want to leave THE CONGO!"

Is there any reason to max out big guns?

Does it affect reload speed for the missle launcher? Also does damage significantly increase?

What kind of builds should I invest in if I wanna be a big guns?

I'm going to try to skip VATS and go for an evil spray-and-pray kinda guy.

LVL 1:
STR 7 (might be a little high, I'm planing on doing some melee, might trade points here for CHA though)
PER 6 (better criticals)
END 8 (intense training)
CHA 1 (who needs it! I'll scavange my goods)
INT 9
AGL 1
LCK 8 (intense training)

Tagged Big Guns, Repair and Lockpick. No +VATS perks.

No idea on how much the Big Guns skill affects damage and such though.

I maxed out big guns and melee on my second character. Small guns with 20 points is infinitely more effective than either one of those at 100. The only weapons that are very effective are the Flamer and Fat Man, at least on very hard.

Any news of trophy support for the PS3 version?

There are too many games at the moment, might as well wait for the trophies before getting this.

Dude, you'll get killed for saying that. I said the exact same thing and some people just wouldn't let me go. I have the game, but I'm waiting for the trophy news. Come on!

I probably don't listen to the in-game radio enough. Love the ambient music in Fallout 3. Though listening to a song like "Anything Goes" while fighting a pack of Super Mutants certainly has its odd appeal. :lol

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/download.php?id=2532

^ BSA extractor - download it, open it up, load up the sounds.bsa file in the main directory of Fallout 3 and extract all to a folder. It'll separate the music from the sound effects in sub folders and all that. Bethesda owns. :D

The survival guide is an excellent introduction to the game. Not exactly a "tutorial", more of a guiding hand through the early stages to ease you into the rest of the game. And the rewards for doing the optional goals are well worth it.

I prefer to take a quest all the way to the end instead of speeching/lying my way out of it. I can always blow their head off after the fact. :D

It's better, actually. If you lie to get past Moira's quests, the rewards aren't as good as actually doing the quest. Not to mention the added experience in killing off monsters to get the quest done, and looting them and the area you're visiting. My speech is really high, so I lied to easily get past a couple of them (like the Minefield quest), but most of them I completed legitimately for the extra rewards. Although my version of her book ended up terrible (according to Moira's harsh ass criticism), probably because I picked the "Intellectual" response every time instead of mixing it up between that and "Charisma".

:lol

I gave her Intelligent responses as well

Until Chapter 3
Where I saw the rewards that didn't seem to good. I told her it probably wasn't a good idea to publish it and apparently CRUSHED HER DREAMS. I was pretty thrilled, and then I got a perk for it.
So awesome.

The thing mentioned above gives
50% less chance of enemies criting you

Twelve hours in, I get a gamebreaking glitch.

Dr. Li is wandering around the entrance to the citadel, not opening the doors no matter what I do
