Pick up everything and repair the hell out of it before selling it, but DON'T pay for repair

Melee weapons are your friend, don't buy ammo just use what you pick up (also: use multiple weapons so you don't rely on one source of ammo)

100 caps for healing rad sickness is cheaper than using 10 stimpacks instead of food/water sources which are a HELL of a lot cheaper than stimpacks until your barter is high
 
is there anything worth a damn at Little Lamplight other than busting MacReady's chops for some free shrooms?

I kept waiting for some quest to open up, but nothing.

It seems like there was some potential with the whole Princess/MacReady scenario, but nothing came from it.


I hate those kids.
Even after saving some from the slavers I still get boned around by them.



Also- The Dunwich Building:

did I miss something awesome there? I found 9 of the guy's journals, made my way down to some altar with a woman in stone (where the crazy bastard tried to kill me) but I couldn't find the book he kept mentioning in his audio journals.

Between those two places, last night playing was a complete bust. :(

It's just a bit of fun ghoul slaughter and H.P. Lovecraft references (the book, Necronomicon).

I just finished the game, and loved it. I missed lots of the side quests, so I guess I'll pick it up again once I finish my 360 backlog.

Anyway, the Italian localization was HORRIBLE, with all kinds of mistakes and a subpar dubbing. Too bad there was non English audio on the DVD. It's Oblivion all over again.

roamed around with the Ghoul Mask, so I didn't see much action- but it was creepy seeing all those freaky bastards just roaming around in the dark ruins
.


As far as the main story, I just helped Three Dog with his little communication problems. Roughly how far into the story am I? I've had this since day 1 and have been trying to milk the hell out of side-quests.
 
I just got up to the part where
I met "The President" and escaped the Enclave HQ. I am about to assault the purifier.
. I assume this is the last part. Should I not start the quest if I want to spend some more time doing side quests and leveling up or is there more after that?

Well, not so long. I took my time to look around and snoop in vaults and settlements, but I think that speeding through the main quest would take about 15 hours. Of course the fun is to roam through the map and explore everything: there are lots of nice side quests, and the atmosphere is just beautiful. I think this is the best postatomic scenario of the last years. It's so clever and clean, and in spite of a few minor annoyances, the game looks gorgeous.

Best way to make money early, is go back to town often to sell. Make sure the vendor has enough caps to cover the sell first. If you pick up things at 15 percent or so, repair them to consolidate weight. Do not repair two items at 35 percent, if your skill is only 40 to save weight and time. You lose out on extra caps. It saves a trip back to town, but cost you caps overall. I had a hard time making caps, until I decided to go back to town often. Selling ammo on weapons like .32, you do not use, is a good money maker to. Reiley's Ranger is a huge cash cow, if you have been to Underworld.

Protip: You can find another Lovecraft quest in Oblivion, if you happen to stumble across the little town of Hackdirt.

the twisted faces of "the brethren" genuinely creeped me out, as it was completely unexpected
 
I'm almost at level 20, is the Explorer perk worth getting?

I'm a sucker for exploring every location, so I guess this perk will show the locations I have yet to discover?
 
Is it normal for your weapons to all break at once? I admit I haven't been keeping them in good shape much, but crap, I started the Nuka Cola Challenge mission and a good 5-6 of my weapons all broke at the Cola Factory. Is there any other way to repair them besides paying people? I am really low on caps. What are some good missions for making easy caps?

Also, the optional mission where you can to enslave 3 VIP targets. Is there any way to subdue them without alerting everyone around?

Yeah. Reiley's got me like 1750 just on the
map locations
the first time I finished the quest, not to mention prolly a good 1000-1500 on the loot I got.

What level are you? I found that I wasn't getting serious caps until around 10th Level. Now at 14th I've always got a few thousand on me with nothing left to buy unless I come across a merchant with some mini-nukes or schematics. So the money will come.

You have to be repairing weapons with duplicates while you're out in the waste, this is essential. You know how to do this, right? Also, don't get married to your weapons, especially early on. If you love your Chinese Assault Rifle but it's worn right down and you have picked up three hunting rifles, well then fuse the hunting rifles together with your repair skill and start using that for a while. If you find heavy weapons like mini guns or flamers then use them up until their ammo is gone and then dump them! You find more.

Do you have an outfit with a Repair bonus? While in your Pip-Boy but on your 'repair' outfit and then do your weapon and armour repairs. That extra 5% helps quite a bit.

After a bit of perserverance and good inventory management you'll have a suite of great weapons, all of which are in excellent repair.

You can do it yourself as long as you have an extra of whatever weapon or armor it is you want to fix. When you do, there is an option to repair with the Y button in your PIP Boy screen. It also helps to have Repair up obviously.
 
Damn, I'm already level 20 and have barely started the main quest, not to mention I have a bunch of sidequests unfinished and unfound.
Figured I'd get the mod to raise the level cap to 30, but turns out you can't be evil past level 20.. and I'm super fucking evil :/

Is there an easy way to get good karma fast?
 
Phew, finally completed the game. All quests and sidequests. I feel a little bad for never checking out the Bethesda Offices and the Vault Tec Officies, but oh well.

Church donations give good karma too if you're flush with caps. I've seen church donation sites in Megaton and Rivet City.

Not really, but repair should be a priority. Energy Weapons isn't the best choice imo. You'll have lots of time before you'll get decent energy weapons in the first place and enough time to get that skill up to a decent level using skillbooks. There's also a perk that will net you a cool 15 points for energy weapons if you want to blow a perk on a skill (I personally wouldn't do that).

so energy weapon perk isn't worth it? go with the repair then?
 
Repair is helpful to have if you're going to rely mostly on the guns you take from enemies, as I did my first time through. Second time through I'm focusing more on melee, so repair isn't needed as much.
 
How deep is this game? I have enough for 1 game and curious if I should get Fallout for Ps3. Its between F3, LBP, and Valkyria.
I want all 3 :(
Is Fallout a really deep game with leveling up and stat changing.

LBP is 1st party, Fallout 3 is selling like hotcakes, Valkyria might not have a reprint...

I bought Disgaea 3 for the reasonyou gave Valkyria. I want LBP because it deserves it, and I want F3 cuz its a genre that is rare on the ps3 right now :(

I want all 3 games regardless though lol.

Probably the top 3 things I would pick if I started a new character, especially lockpick. I chose science instead and the hacking minigame gets really repetitive and annoying. :/

Repair is essential no matter what kind of character you're playing. Unless you plan on running around with no armor and no weapons, that is.

Most of the time you'll be using regular guns, especially in the beginning, so small arms is a better choice.

Medicine is pretty useless. You can get by fine without ever touching it and just relying on the books you find (the perk that gets you 2 skill points instead of 1 for every book you read is a good one).

The way certain skills are weighted so heavily is one of the shortcomings of the game, I think.
 
I just had an interesting bug happen to me.

Accidentally fell off a high point while stalking an enemy, managed to see them while I was falling to certain doom, entered VATS, shot them, and survived the landing!:lol
 
this game is all types of awesome. i just
blew up megaton
so i got a lot of money now.

im currently deciding whether i should kill roy phillips and his ghouls or let the ghouls take over the tower. kill roy for 500 caps is tempting,but then seeing the ghouls in the tower would be funy. if i let them in,will i still be able to keep my suite?

Looked up Gallus on the guide, apparently he's a bad guy so it's ok to kill him. His body carries a skill book too so that's a bonus. That's too bad though, he had such fabulous taste.

or not. On one hand I don't really care for any of the quests anymore in there, but on the other hand, I Like Luke Simms :(
 
I pickedup F3 last night for ps3.

Before I open it, I just went through the thread to get hyped, I just wanted to know if the framerate was "that bad" like drop under 20 often?

I'm no graphics whore or framerate whore, as long as you can play through the game and not be killed by the framerate I'm all good.
 
I'm doing my second run as an evil chick, I'm level 8 now but I'm not having much fun to be honest. I don't like killing or ripping off good folk and I always feel bad afterwards. :lol

I have no problem killing ghouls though! I still want to kill all of them after what they did in Tenpenny Tower during my good guy / hero run.
