The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

The final DLC will continue the game. That's a pretty big deal.

I think I am tired of Bethesda's bullshit over priced download able content. So the people who have written about the PS3 version so far, is the ps3 version good in terms of performance ? I kept hearing and looking at screens where the ps3 version has worst lightening out of the 3 versions. Or I can try to get the PS3 version and exchange it for 360 version. is the PS3 version washed out ? requires install ?

If you don't care about $10-$20 sidequests that have little to do with the game's core story anyway, the PS3 version is fine.

Good to know you've played them and can analyze them fully, present us with unbiased facts on them man.

I'm just saying, at the end of the day, you ARE getting a complete package if you don't get any DLC. It's not like you don't get to see the ending if you don't want to pay for the extra stuff.

You should be making the argument that both types of console owners got screwed and that the PC gamers yet again will probably get free updates, or at the very least rad mods & alt stories.

I don't even play PC games and I'm pissed about that.

(You have a nice avatar BTW, Bionic Commando is going to be kickass)

The only problem is the ending you will see is complete and utter ass. Yes, it does seem a bit of a rip for them to charge for what will essentially be fixing the largest problem with the game, but as long as they throw in a few extra bennies I'll be fine with it.

The other DLC is like whatever, but at least I have the option of going for it.

Is there a way to cap the FPS on the PC version? The game is fluctuating from high 40's -60 FPS in the open world and it's starting to get jarring.

Nothing wrong with the PS3 version ,runs well for me , no problems. :)

Same here, I had a bug here and there
I had one where big ol Liberty just stopped and didn't break through a barrier
but apart from that. Fine to me.

On a side note. Finished the main storyline today. Everything up to the end was amazing. Then all of the sudden. I get a smelly turd of an ending well, though a very good smelling turd,
that bugged out on me and said I didn't sacrifice myself. Even though I had. ;/
. Amazing journey there though. The entire story, is quite fascinating to take in and read through, and experience. It really gives the atmosphere of being, alone, and in what could be a future. It's just, amazing, really.

Seems like this game is getting a lot easier once you get a large portion of the map uncovered and can transport...

Kind of unnecessary that on rescue missions you can fast warp with the person you're saving though...kind of defeats the purpose IMO.

You don't have to. I know I don't. The game isn't about restrictions, but as much as possible letting you play how you want to play. Some quests can be finished in a simple conversation check. Some can be done by doing good things, and others by wicked, wicked things. Do what's most fun for you.

Honestly, that's why this game works so incredibly well; it lets you build your own adventure one step at a time.

I normally don't enjoy open world games, but Fallout 3 is pretty damn incredible.

The last super mutant behemoth is terribly glitched. The ending is awful (thank god they have an expansion in which to fix it) but ultimately the endgame was pretty fun. I liked Oblivion better, but Fallout had a lot of things I want to see in future Bethesda RPGs (ie. VATS, good sidequests, unique loot).

Not going to give an extensive review or anything at least until I finished the main quest; however, I working my way through Vault 106 and I've gotta say, Bravo Bethesda. One of the more spooky experiences I've had in a videogame.

A few questions :
Is vault 106 apart of any quest or is it just something there for us to explore? Also, is there any more information on what exactly happened there? I assume that some sort of gas was released that made everyone go crazy/die?

Oh and, is there a lot of quest cliches, or is there just some storylines that are not meant to be quest?

For instance, in Rivet,
there is a girl there who loves the Diego character (I think her name is something-Staley, anyways, she said that she needed some sort of ant-pheromone to get his attention, I gave her the goods, and nothing came of it. No quest, no xp, no nothing. I spent like 100 caps on that fucking shit and I got nothing. Also, there used to be an option to go up to the priest and tell him that Diego was sleeping her her, but the option has disappeared.

Also, that Bannon guy mentioned something about me spying on his political rival, I broke into the guys room, looked at his computer and all his other stuff, but once again nothing has happened.

I get a message saying that my guy can't run because he's overencumbered, I thought that was an extravegant way of saying, your guy is a retarded cripple so I took a rest in a bed... but he's still cripppled.

I can't fast travel to Megaton to get to the clinic, I'm in the middle of nowhere in Arefu, what's wrong with my guy? :_:

I love how the the Outcast Brotherhood think the Western Brotherhood of Steel personify the true spirit of the Brotherhood. I just love that callback to the past Fallouts.

Sweeeeet. Trophies came earlier than expected. Time to start playing. :D

I was thinking of leaving this game until next summer (you know when there is hardly any games to play) but now with trophies I just might pick it up next month, it will keep me busy until Killzone 2 arrives.

You're carrying more than your character can handle.

Drop stuff or use Buffout and fast travel.

If you use Buffout as soon as you get to Megaton you'll be overencumbered again, but at least you'll probably be close to someplace where you can drop your loot without loosing it.

I know this is a stupid question but when I kill something like a super mutant or one of those wherewolve type things, is that one less enemy in the world for the rest of the game?

Or do they respawn eventually?

Super Mutant Behemoth will not respawn

Deathclaw will respawn outdoors, but, so far for me once you kill them in an indoor environment they stay dead, this seems to be the case for super mutant's as well

talk to them a little later, you get good karma out of it, but you 'll need to attend the
wedding
to actually get the karma

I think it depends on the place. In the overworld I think some types of enemies have random respawns. But some locations are preset with some encounter that will only happen once. Also in 'instances' you only get to fight enemies once.

Differs from enemy to enemy.

From what I've experienced. Kills inside an enclosed area (that's not part of the overworld) will stay dead. Everything else get's re spawned.

Spawning is set in the editor; the spawning default of the Behemoth template is FALSE and if you kill them, a script is triggered that changes a counter; that counter affects an achievement, so they aren't supposed to respawn.

However, you could always add a Behemoth and make him respawn... That's entirely possible.

About these other creatures you mentioned, I have no idea.

Guys, you feel like Fallout is a huge step over Oblivion too?

Gameplay wise? Certainly.

Oblivion's level scaling made beating the game at L5 easier than if you kept going up. In only a few short levels you could max all the skills and stats that mattered to your character.

It's not as good as the old Fallouts though, in combat. You can always enter your inventory and consume items / change armor to your heart's content in the middle of a fight. Also, Fallout: Tactics did real-time Fallout better: everything should cost Action Points, whether turn-based or real-time.

Im thrilled the trophy patch finally came out for PS3 yesterday. Im pretty far along and got a couple trophies last night for my current sidequests.

Time to beat the dead horse, but its annoying that trophies arent retroactive....especially on a game like this.

Im considering starting a 2nd game to get the earlier trophies...it looked like there were quite a few of them near the beginning of the game. Does that make me a trophy whore? :lol :lol

I bought the game along with a few others, but almost immediately after that I read about the trophy news, so that's why I decided to wait. Now that the patch is out, there's no more excuse not to start playing. :D

Anyone else getting graphical glitches since installing the patch yesterday? All the sudden my game has huge black or red angular shapes pop up constantly. Should I boot up a previous save?

I doubt its the patch.....I had killed a super mutant a few days ago in an area, and when i came back to it, instead of the body there was this huge green cylinder shape that shot all the way up into the sky.....this was before the patch came out.

Try an earlier save....maybe it is related in your case, i dont know.

Question, is there a way to increase the money merchants have in the game? Like in oblivion after a certain point you could invest in them? I am already lvl 20 and have like 10 mini guns saved in my house and 4 fat mans at full repair and many multiple weapons that I can't sell because fucking merchants usually don't have enough money. What I do is just buy a shit on of ammo so they get money but it ends out net net.

I think it comes down to straight up trading instead of saving money. Bring those high priced items you want when your going to buy a bulkload of shit. Meaning, say you want to buy some $1000 item from a Merchant. Instead of using money in the bank, bring what you want to offload, buy that high priced item then sell the items you want to sell to get the money back.

You can invest in the merchants wandering around the wasteland. Go to Canterbury Commons and talk to Uncle Roe to do so. They get more items but I'm not sure if increases the amount of caps they have.

The merchants also have 'hidden stashes' there that you can loot

When you invest in the merchants, not only does their loot quality improve, not only do they give you modest rewards, but they can repair better than anyone else in the game.

Wolfgang, the junk vendor, can repair 85%!

So I'll usually have him fix up all the hard to come by items like Power Armor; money spent on repairs can be gained back through trading. At the end you'll have tons of money anyway, so you're basically just looting valuables to pay for repairs (World of Warcraft-y!).

I loved oblivion, even with all its problems. Personally I think as a game fallout is way better. The combat is much improved, and the quests are much better. I would say it more fun to play. I love the exploration parts of bethseda's games. So both are great there, I think overall I liked oblivion's setting better. I think fallout is awesome. Looks great, and the world is very detailed and immersive. The difference is... well it a nuclear wastland :lol :lol I dont know about you but Id rather live in a lush fantasy world than a desolate wasteland.

It wouldnt be so bad if it was more varied in setting, but its setting is my only complaint. Its fallout, it is what it is... I really, really hope the next elder scrolls game uses something like vats for magic and fighting. Like enemies having weak points, disarming, targeting a freezing spell on the feet to slow them down or on their hands to slow there attack etc.

I hope they also make the quests as well thought out as Fallout. In fallout the completion of some quests really feel like they make an impact on the world ex: Megaton. I think they need to work on their cinematic approach to dialogue. I think Mass Effect would be a good model to look at. The character models and facial/body expressions felt more believable in ME. I could be that they never want to pull the camera out of first person, which is ok I guess. I would love to see better models and animation.

Overall I think Fallout is a better "game" but I still prefer the world of oblivion. They got some oblivion in my fallout.... now I need some fallout in my oblivion.
