The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Tenpenny Tower

I managed to convince all the residents that the ghouls could live in the tower, now everyone (well, almost) is happy in the tower now, but Tenpenny is nowhere to be found, and Roy Philips the ghoul seems to know something when I ask him about Tenpenny. Is he dead? Is he important or related to any other quest?

If any of you have not done the Tenpenny Tower quest yet, I would suggest saving at the very start of it because it ends in a way you did not originally plan if you try a neutral solution.
If you try the neutral way, where you convince the humans to live with the ghouls, the ghouls end up killing the humans anyways. If you have a key to the basement(I didn't), I think you'll find all the bodies there. If you question the ghouls about the basement, they don't care. It's lonely as hell after that. Only 3 of them vs 20+ people originally living there.

Screw the Ghoul mask reward and just kill the Ghouls. Provoke them so you don't incur negative karma.

Also, I think I killed the overseer in vault 101 in the beginning of the game, does that mean I won't get to do the Trouble on the homefront quest?

I made it to level 20 and honestly, the level cap really hurts my incentive to explore further, with this game... now I just want to do the last few subquests and get the bobbleheads, but going through the dungeons now feels like a chore. I like the game a lot more than I thought I would, although dungeons really got repetitive and totally lack character after a while.

I asked whether I should get the PS3/PC version earlier and got a couple responses, but I'm still wondering about PS3 owners post-patching. Any issues you've run into?

I didn't' have any issues after the patch, but I only had one freeze before that (and the notification bug)

I finished the game Sunday, I loved it overall, I think I might go back to my last save so I can do some more side quests. I think I did a good amount of them though, I think I finished at about 30 hours or so, what are your favorite side quests? Just by name so there are no spoilers though please.

Shit, I knew I should have done that, that's what I get for not being racist :(

To your question:

Yes, you can do the quest anyway, the overseer will be replaced by another one.

finally listened to the last twenty minutes of the 1up yours from about two weeks ago, and they reminded me that the anchorage dlc is coming soon. does anyone know if your character and stats carry over? or is it clean slate?

I noticed the difficulty options when I loaded the game up for the first time.
What difference is there exactly?

I went for Hard.

I hope they do a Fallout 4 in a more interesting area. I'm playing through Fallout 2 right now and this game needed a New Reno, or some weird hyper advanced Vault community that shuns "Outworlders". By comparison, the DC Fallout is a bit bland.

Man the Railway Rifle is incredibly buggy. I finally decided to make one and the game crashed within 5 minutes of me killing the residents of Megaton

Quest question...

So I'm doing this quest:

Forgot the exact name, but its the one where you go and zap the 3 or 4 people and then put the slave collars on them for the slavers back in Paradise City.

One of the targets is Flak from Rivet City. After I put it on him, everyone in Rivet City started attacking me!!!! I left the town and then warped back to Paradise City. Will the people in Rivet City now attack me everytime I try to go in there?

Thanks.

I've never played Oblivion.

So far.... wow.

You aint seen nothing yet.....trust me!

This game started for me as an awesome game, but has totally turned to my game of
2008. The amount of stuff to do, and the life in the gameworld is just astounding.

Umm they didnt do that for me. Sucks that you lose out on the shop. Plus there were more than 3 ghouls

Yeah, I stopped just I got out of the Vault.
Looked around, got scared, mole rat attacked me, and have no idea what to do.
Just walking around listening to my radio. :)

The amount of choices in the Vault alone overwhelmed me. I'll need to play this game at least twice.
I pickpocketed vodka from that bully's mom. haha.

Yesterday I checked how much I have logged and I'm lvl 19 in 85 hours of play.

I love the exploration but I hate places like Vault 92. Screw clearing the place out, went strait for the violin and got the hell out. In contrast, Evergreen mills was a fun place to explore and rack up kills.

How do you guys kill Giant Scorpions and Mr. Something(that robot with no legs with fast moving speed)? They seem to be everywhere now but I don't have an efficient strategy for them.

Wait, lvl 19 after 85 hours? O_O Most people (including me) reach max lvl around 20-30 hours of play, did you intentionally avoid enemies or do you walk everywhere or something?

Scorpions = flamethrower
Robots = pulse grenades

Despite having assloads of ammo and almost all the named weapons, I avoid Giant Scorpions like the plague. I did have some success with close range circle strafing the smaller ones. I think I used a combat knife too.

As for the robot, I think you're talking about the Sentry. I've found that melee actually works pretty well if you don't get torn up getting in range. If you can get in between the arms and all up in its face, you won't get hit.

After the mainquest The Waters of Life, just walk around 101 and you will catch the radio signal.

Awesome thanks for the tip.

Fawkes
has already made me jump like 2 or 3 times since he started following me. One time I went into this building and there was a super mutant in it and I thought it was Fawkes until I realized he was shooting me. And why does fawkes run so weird? his arms and shoulders are like getting jiggy with it...and if i'm jumping over stuff he'll come out of no where and freak me out. It's nice having him against giant radscorpions and deathclaws though

I'm at level 18 and 61 hours

no. I've only run away from 1 robot(when I was lvl 4) and walked around a couple deathclaws, but normally if I can see it or it's in my radar, it's dead.
I did Moria's quest, and that took around 40+ hours to finish.
Then I started doing the quests not related to the storyline, and another 40+hrs. I still need to do Riley's Rangers and the Shoot them in the Head quests.

I think what takes up most of my time is that if I discover a spot, I clear it out. and I mean everything. every cup, plate, bent tin clan, and spork. The Robo Corp building took all day I think, making 9+ trips to town. I have 80+ locations found on my map, and each one i can declare to be completely empty minus enemy respawns. I think today I'll focus on cleaning up what's left of evergreen mills and vault 92.

Fun times though. Like finding those huge satellite towers and setting off nuclear explosions from a remote satellite in space just because it was in your path. Scared the crap out of me though.

Scorpions = flamethrower
Robots = pulse grenades

Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanks! They were getting on my nerves.

For the Rad scorpions, and Giant Rad scorpions, its very much worth your time to get the items needed and create the shishkebob weapon. That flaming sword takes out the little scorpions rather fast, and even the giants are pretty much pushovers with it.

Theres an upcoming perk I can get (forgot the name) that will boost damage I can dish out for any fire-based weapon by 50%!!!! Cant wait for that perk.

Hi guys just started with the game (360).

Is there a patch out to fix the NPCs and 3d person view animations (skating on ice) or that's the way it's supposed to look (like ass btw)?

No, just play in first person, it's the only viable option.

If you can get the PC version and don't, you don't deserve the awesomess of Fallout 3! Mods always make Bethesda games a hundred times better :)

If you saw my earlier post (which has my specs), mods aren't a huge factor in my decision! :p

Unless they improve how the game runs

ok I just finished Orange Box (Half Life 2, Ep 1, and Ep 2) and now I'm playing Fallout 3. My last bethesda game was Oblivion... I played through shivering isles a couple weeks ago.. and there's just something missing from Fallout 3 that Oblivion had in spades.. Fallout is a depressing game, man.. really.. and it's far harder than oblivion... and there's no magic... I know.. I'm an old D&D geek.. so the lack of magic is very obvious to me. Also, while I'm exploring the environments, I find there's such a lack of stuff to explore.. I can be running around for 10 minutes literally, and I don't see anything.. Maybe the game will get better.. I'm not sure.. I'll keep playing, because I love Bethesda and I love this type of game, but for me it has been a huge step back from Oblivion in these first 10 or 15 hours.

Its a post apocalyptic world. What were you expecting?

he has been taking them.

Hopefully the game improves for you, though, because it is really great.

Ultimately it is a mash-up of Oblivion and Fallout faithfully set in the Fallout Universe. This is an apocalyptic future world, ravaged by war and nuclear fallout; things are just not going to look pretty (however, if you search for them, there are some wildly varying landscapes).

Bethesda really does deserve some credit for how deeply they researched the series when they were making Fallout 3. There are no cop-outs, this game's world is perfectly in line with the previous entries.

All I can suggest is to keep playing. I was SUPER disappointed in the first few hours--coming up against my first invisible wall, exploring the DC area via horribly repetitive and boring subway tunnels...I really thought that I was going to end up hating the game, mostly because I couldn't stop thinking about Oblivion and the things that I missed about it.

Once I got over that shit, I realized that it really isn't a step back from Oblivion. It's a different game with a unique set of design challenges, and it succeeds on a lot of levels.

Before I waste time trying to something that cannot be done - is it possible to get the bobble head in the Enclave HQ after it has been blown up?

Think about what you just asked. I think you already know but you just don't want to admit it.

No I didn't know I just didn't want to waste any time looking for it if there was no point. Thanks... I think.

It'd be great if it was shot sky high and you can find it on the ground somewhere in the Wasteland.

Is that the only miss able item?

No

There is:
a vault boy in megaton, which I don't think you can get after/if you blow the city up
a vault boy in vault 101... I'm not sure if you can go back for it later

I'm sure there are plenty more

Nope, just those two and the one in
Raven Rock
mentioned earlier. And yes, you can
go back to Vault 101
. :)

well, you can only go back
once
, so make sure to get what you need then.

I've never owned a Games for Windows game. When you unlock achievements in the game can you tell from your "gamercard" if they are from the PC or the Xbox 360 version of the game or would it not be discernible?

It says "(PC)" next to the game name. Try checking my XBL profile, Uncle BeeDog.

EDIT: sorry, was blowing smoke. Doesn't say anything next to Fallout 3, but Gears of War says "(Windows)" next to the game name.

Fucking finally

Also, from my own experience;
if you were a total jackass towards Amata she will NOT send you the distress channel message, and you won't be able to go back in. This also means you can't complete the Trouble on the Homefront quest.

I just completed it. Absolutely brilliant game.
