The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

:lol @ the pile of dead mutants

I've only used a few mods and just dropped them into the fallout folder and checked them of on the launcher, I've noticed that if I have a save with a the mods in use and try to use that save with out the mods the game crash's obviously. Will the mod manager get around this situation? I have a feeling it won't. thanks!

starting using mod manager imo, eventually your gonna run into issues with mods not loading in the correct order and crashing plus when you use fose for the higher scripting mods mod manager will launch it automatically, makes managing and trouble shooting mods much easier.

also something kinda cool, someone made a better plasma death

One thing I'm not liking with the FWE is my insanely decreased ability to carry items. I've had to decrease the weapons I was carrying to literally half, and I'm still encumbered. I want to keep a pistol, a rifle, an auto, and a big gun, but I got to get rid of SOMETHING. And I don't have many items or armor, either. Lame.

just get mighty mouse mod or something that boosts the carry weight and load it after fwe, should work

Ugh I have to reinstall everything before the new DLC comes out. The high res texture pack killed my framerate :(

You can always try another resolution, I remember there was 3 and the highest was a tad too much for my video card too so I just overwrited all the files with the 2nd highest one.

So, finally, at long last, I have joined the ranks of Fallout 3 owning humans, and I love it so far. There's just one tiny problem- the damned game crashes every 15 minutes!

Has anyone else had it just freeze repeatedly and did you manage to fix it/ reduce the frequency of the crashes? Here's my info.

PC version, off a DVD (not steam or other download service), Vista 32, nvidia geforce 8800 GT, Fallout 3 patched and latest drivers for the video card in use. I turned down some of the graphics, thinking my video card might be overheating, but even with the fan barely needing to be on I get these freezes, could be while doing anything, so far during VATS, walking around, NPC interaction, all over the place. I have no problem ctrl-alt-deleting, but it's still annoying as all hell reloading the game.

I have not voluntarily quit this game once yet, which is a tribute to a) how much fun the game is and b) just how much the damned thing crashes. If anyone has absolutely ANY helpful tips it'd be much appreciated, googling the issue has produced nil results.

You're right, it sounds like you're overheating.

Do you get a specific crash message? Do you notice any graphic artifacting before the crash?

Have they said if they The Pitt is linear again? I can't imagine it being a whole new open world but I also don't want it to be following a path around a 95% blocked off city.

Finally got around to giving FO3 a spin (360 version), now that I finished Persona 4 a week or two ago. Several hours into it now, and while I found Oblivion okay I much prefer FO3 to it - the VATS stuff makes the difference for me combat-wise. Having a fun time so far, but I can also see why old school FO diehards don't really care for it.

i bought fallout 1 and 2, new when they came out (and again on the collectors dvd),and I like fallout 3, is it the same as a black isle one? No, but imo it was a decent effort, and its made even better by modders. It also makes me have much more faith in their fallout 4 than I had going into their fallout 3. just for the love of god Bethesda, work on the animation and mebbe a little more cause and effect through choices or actions and a better ending for god sakes.

So can someone tell me what the draw back to radiation is? The game has yet to tell me why its important to avoid. At what level should I look into reducing it?
http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Radiation#Fallout_3

Code:
0-199 No Effect
200-399 Minor Radiation Poisoning -1 END
400-599 Advanced Radiation Poisoning -2 END, -1 AGL
600-799 Critical Radiation Poisoning -1 STR, -3 END, -2 AGL
800-999 Deadly Radiation Poisoning -2 STR, -3 END, -2 AGL
1000+ Lethal Radiation Poisoning DEATH

for me I wont let it go above 199 if I can, you do get a perk to regen limbs at hi rads from Moira Brown

Anyone knows where I can find allot of Mole Rats, I need 10 of them for the "Survival Guide Quest" but I seem to have killed them all, I went to the swears but no mole was still alive, kept walking the waste land but nothing, any other suggestions?

I'd like to know as well. I cleared out the sewer but still need to kill 1 or 2 more

I had the same problem. There are a bunch of mole rats in the northeast of the wasteland. Outdoors. I *think* they're some distance south of the Republic of Dave but I can't remember.

You can also find them in the robotics factory that you have to visit for another stage of the Wasteland Survival Guide quest.

I'm at my wits end, if anyone can help me I'd be mighty appreciative. I'm in the Statesmen hotel in the DC area. I've been though the damn thing at least 20 times. There are people on the roof that are asking me to get a fission battery from a broken down protectron on the 3rd floor maintenance closet. For one, I'm not sure what floor is the 3rd because they aren't marked and I'm not sure if the floor I think is the first is actually the basement. For two, I've been in every goddam room on every floor... there is no protectron. I can't figure out how to get out of the hotel so it seems the only way out is to get that battery. Can anyone help? Describe to me what the third floor looks like and try to guide me to the protectron.

If I remember right when you go back down from the top of the hotel you should hit a room pretty soon thats pretty big with staircases on both sides... a bar in the middle. That's where I found it I believe.

I replayed op. anchorage today for my new character to get the chinese stealth suit. need to get me a shiskebab now and a few more perks and my awesome stealthy-melee character should be all ready. Can't wait for the pitt and the auto axe

while I was there I noticed the game let me bring my mole rat repellent stick with me (must be some weird glitch?)so I beat a few chinese soldiers to death with it... how's that for research moira?

If anyone still looking for Mole Rats I found 5 or 6 of them in Vault 108, which solved my problem.

How about character development? They should look that up

eh i guess, usually you make your own development in the game though, thats where cause and effect comes in I sez, altho reading fallout 3 wiki the amount of ways to mess with the trouble on the homefront quest comes somewhat close to a black isle game.

I got the fallout 1 ending version first time, I was kinda like :rolleyes such fan service, but from reading this I guess its a rare thing to get?

I'm kind of annoyed. On my second playthrough getting a bug where the game freezes entering my apartment in Tenpenny Tower. I went back to an old save tested the room then continued on, only to have the bug re-occur.

I may replay the game as melee/energy weapon. I did small arms/sneak last time and sneaking is just too cumbersome.

Sneaking...cumbersome? Maybe your sneak wasn't high enough. Even without the Chinese Stealth Suit, having nearly maxed out sneak is almost broken because of all the sneak attack crits you'll be getting.

Can't you effectively do both? I'm only Level 16 but by the time I'm Level 20, I would have maxed out Unarmed, Sneak, Small Arms, Lockpick, Energy Weapons and Repair. With the massive amount of skill points in this game (from Bobbleheads, books and leveling points), it seems to be very easy to create a character that is a master of several different skills.

LTTP Just got the game.
I only have one question:
Does the suppose to pause when there's any PSN notification on screen?

I don't have the PS3 version but I'm pretty sure that was a common bug in that version. I think it was supposed to have been fixed by a patch.

Friends notification no longer causes the game to pause. (Playstation 3)

The Pitt will be the second Fallout 3 downloadable content pack, and is set to be released on March 24, 2009 for the Xbox 360 and Games for Windows Live.

It is the rarest ending. I dont think they handled it too well. Plus despite your companions following you around everywhere, they never develop. The only thing that actually recognizes anything you do is Three Dog. Just a waste. I dont even think Harold was handled well.

Lets just say Bethesada has a long way to go before they reach Bioware, let alone Black Isle. But then Bethesada has more in common with Icewind or Diablo storywise.

You could feasibly max every skill I think and have stuff left over, especially since its in your best interest to put int at nine and then truck it to Rivet City for the bobblehead.

I maxed Speech, Science, Repair, Small Arms, Sneak, Lockpick and Medicine and I likely would have maxed Explosives and Barter if I went skill books hunting. And this was with little planning

Yes, I am aware of that but it would have been too tedious to hunt for the skill books.

I like the fact that my current combination of Sneak/Energy Weapons/Small Arms/Unarmed gives me a huge variety of ways to tackle any enemy. I could very well run-and-gun my way through any dungeon or I can simply choose to sneak and pull off critical headshots after critical headshots or I can even sneak behind someone and go for the kill with the awesome Deathclaw Gauntlet.

And like you, I didn't really plan my skills distribution until I was Level 15 and realized that I was left with a limited number of skill points from leveling that I could distribute. Currently, I am planning my character around the level cap being raised to 30. For example, I am going to put just enough skill points into Melee Weapons so that when the third DLC comes out and I hit Level 21, I can immediately pick the Ninja perk.
