The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Today I learned a lesson in facing some of the tougher enemies in the game for the first time.

for those tougher enemies if I don't have the dart gun I usually will just run backwards dropping frag mines. Yao Guai and Deathclaws will just keep lunging at you so they will keep getting hit by them and usually end up with crippled legs making it easier to get away from their attacks.

Combat shotgun along with mines crippling their legs also works really well.

Sneak 65, level 8, light armor... I get up on just about anything and throw a few grenades. With a high AP you can toss at least three... the first is an automatic critical the remaining two kill most things I have encountered so far with the exception of...

Back it up with a Scoped .44 - headshot. Boom goes the dynamite!

As for normal being too easy, maybe I am playing it wrong, but the first few levels were harsh. Running out of ammo, running back to megaton to sleep in the bed all the time, and this is while trying to get headshots I'm 12 now, but there is still some stuff that can give me a run for my money.

Like most WRPGs, the game is pretty much as hard as your equipment and skills make it. I thought I had everything figured out after killing hundreds of super mutants at like level 5. But a couple irradiated bears running at you, and suddenly you get dangerously low on health.

Oh, and fighting
Enclave soldiers
when you first meet them is hard as hell. I had a very high small guns skill and top condition small guns and it still took tons of hits to bring them down.

Question regearded the Pitt DLC:

I finished the quest -- where do I get my gear back? There was a safe at the start area where the guy (MEX) first took mine away -- and now it's not there. I have been checking that area periodically, and haven't seen that safe since then?

Regardless, where do I get my gear back after I finished with everything that needs to be done inside. On my quest list it says "retrieve your gear" so apparently I know I can.

PS: Should I be playing this game from the HDD? Or does it not matter.

It's in a box when you finish the Pitt Quest, should be an icon pointing to where it is if you have the quest selected.

Is it where the gate-check in is?

Because there is no box there anymore. (anyway, I'll be sure to check any map markers)

Is it a small clear white one? A large filled one? Or large clear one? (what kind of market is it)

Believe, it's in trunk after you finish the fights in Pitt Arena. The iradiated place where slaves fight for freedom.

Remembering, I was able to get all my equipment back before going to Haven area.

I stand corrected.
I don't think it's a widely used option. 3 times I've done that quest and I never even saw the chance to do that, I just randomly was looking on that site the other day and found out.

I definitely plan to with my new playthrough. I'm currently level 10. I figured I would stop there until mothership zeta came out.

There are 4 DLC's thus far right?

Operation Anchorage
Pitt
Lookout
Broken Steel

Yes, those are the ones available now, Mothership Zeta is coming in August. Personally, I would only recommend getting Broken Steel and Point Lookout; it's not that OA and the Pitt are bad, they're just very short, and very self-contained.

Well like I said I re upped to play through the entire game with all the DLC. I don't know why but I did Operation Anchorage as my first quest and now I am walking around Megaton with the Chinese Stealth Armor and a Gauss Rifle. :D

If it takes me out of the game too much I will probably just store the items until later on.

Simple early side quest question:

Regarding the Blood Ties side quest, is having a lock-pick skill of 50 the only way to get to The Family's head and Ivan West? Can I get to them through a different route other than that locked underground door?

By the way, this game is extremely sick and awesome. ;)

I'm pretty sure there is only one way into their base, but you can just tell the guard out front that you have a letter for Ian West, and he should let you through, if I recall correctly.

im waiting for my 120gb HDD to come and then im gonna get all the DLC for this. haven't played it since i beat it and i miss it.

Don't install Point Lookout until you've finished The Pitt. There's a frustrating but that occurs when you have both installed.

GFW live said there was an update for Fallout when I fired it up just then. But I get an error when I click "yes" to the do you want to dload the update dialog.

Anyone else get prompted? I'm currently running 1.6

Wait why? I have both installed and I finished Pitt, and now just finished Point Lookout and everything seemed to have worked fine?

Also - I got the Vault Key from Desmond, and the Duchess Key from the boat driver , where do I use them?

Getting it too, managed to get it to work after 3 attempts. Bethesda is working on getting it up on their site. Seems like the patch only adds Mothership Zeta achievements, no bug fixes or anything.

The Vault Key is used in the Underground Lab inside the Lighthouse. And I think the Duchess Key is used to get inside the Duchess Gambits engine room
where you retrieve a bit of your brain
.

I encountered a bug in The Pitt that makes a portion of the roof impossible to walk on -- you fall through and die. According to the Fallout Vault Wiki they've concluded that this happens to people who played The Pitt after installing Point Lookout. I was incapable of getting the 100 Ingot achievement because of this bug.

I just wanted to vent this. During my PS3 playthrough I was a fuggin' super hero, a boy scout.

During my 360 playthrough with all the DLC...

I blow away a few cannibals and steal their gear in a nuclear wasteland and all of a sudden I'm a bad guy? Mission failed? That literally upset me last night.

The Arefuians felt the wrath of a man that was bamboozeled!! Right Quick!

Little Lucy West can expect a face full of buckshot when I get the chance.

I'm about to get Broken Steel since I'm almost at level 20, but have huge parts of the map I haven't touched yet. Is that also the DLC that allows you to keep playing after you've finished the final quest?

Also, I just left Raven Rock. About how far along in the main quest am I?

If you just finished Raven Rock, your in the end game of the Main Story. Luckily, your getting Broken Steel so you can keep playing after the main story ends, but I advise a HARD save right now before you head back to the BoS to start the last mission.

Yeah I just left Raven Rock as well. This is my second playthrough and finished Point Lookout and other side quests I hadn't done. I heard about enemies spawning from Broken Steel before you finish the game? I'm lvl 22.

I haven't seen one new enemy yet in the regular wasteland..

Well, according to this, they really come into play after level 20. So supposingly you should start seeing them more often from there on in.

Thanks for your tip. It helped and I managed to finish that side quest. It seems that on my first failed trial I was broke + less lucky, that's why the guard refused to do me any favor so I had to blow his head off only to end up with a skill-50 locked door. :lol

if you killed him you should have been able to pick a key off his body

At first glance it may not seem like you're seeing new guys. Its mostly new
Enclave dudes, some of them are stronger and have new, bad-ass weapons. Look for their camps around the Wasteland

Is there gonna be some GOTY edition for this?
Or some add-on disc with all the DLC content on it for a price cheaper than 3600 spacepoints?

yea, goty edition is supposed to come out sometime this fall.

I actually did pick up a key off his dead body on my first trial, but I thought it was for the mesh door behind the guard? That key didn't unlock the other door that leads to the Family. Anyway, I've finished the mission and got Ian back to Arefu. Good stuff. :)

Just downloaded Point Lookout but i'm stuck already...maybe it's been discussed but anyway,i'm at the Mansion, very early on and trying to help Desmond but he waits in a room, with a hole in the ceiling and water dripping down but I can't get up there...? and there's nowhere else to go inside...also the bank stuff, even though I have all the recorded notes and passwords,it won't let me open the safety boxes...is that for later on?

I think that the scripting is a little screwy in that part, I got stuck in basically the same place. He's supposed to move on and open a few doors which gives you access to the second floor of the house. You'll probably have to revert to an earlier save (that's what I did, worked fine the second time).

You should be able to do it now.
The box is voice activated, so you need to play the audio file while you're inside the room, and that should open the safety box.

Awesome thanks...yeah it was bugged, like the bug I had a while back in the Pitt...thank god my save was just before entering there, unlike the Pitt, where I had to restart from quite a ways back...finally reached 30 doing that mansion quest...pretty awesome again so far...now where's our level 40 upgrade :D ;)

I stopped playing Point Lookout for now. I reached lvl 28 recently and feared I'd hit max before Zeta comes out. So I'm done for now u til august. Bethesda need to hurry up and give us some New Vegas info,,,,:D
