The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Going through my 2nd playthrough at the moment and trying to play through all the side quests I missed in my first playthrough. It's pretty rare for me to come back to a game once I beat the main storyline but man, there's so much to explore in Fallout 3's world that you barely graze the surface if all you do is the main quest and the occasional side quest. Just amazes me how much quality content there is in this game.

I'm pretty sure I'll be picking up Broken Steel once I finish up the main quest again. Do most people recommend getting Point Lookout as well? I only have 1600 points in my account so trying to limit myself to just 2 DLC packs.

I'm done with the game. I've reached level 30 today and all DLC is done. There are some achievements left, but I don't really feel like doing them.

It was a wonderful experience and it might end up being my favorite game of the generation.

same here, even though I've played the game twice, I feel like doing it again for some reason.

Can you give me a quick rundown of what makes this so special?

From reading the list its mostly added new weapons, items, and armor does it add new quests, NPCs, or anything else major?

Not sure this has been posted yet. I haven't watched it, just downloaded so I can watch on the PS3 later.

For this effort, I decided that I'd attempt to show the blasted, barren Fallout 3 landscape in as much detail as possible - far beyond what either the Xbox 360 or PS3 are capable of. That meant running the PC version at 1080p, with every single setting at the max and backed with a megaton of processing power: in short, in full bullshot mode. The game has many tweakables dedicated to the LOD settings and those, along with the anti-aliasing and shadow detail, are where the lion's share of the CPU and GPU cycles went.

I expected the game to be reduced to a slideshow, even with the in-house Digital Foundry overclocked i7/GTX295 combo. However, the idea was that since so many frames are lost in the capturing process, it wouldn't make any difference to the final video. However, surprisingly, the game remained fairly playable and the game's command mode console "set timescale to" feature and god mode were put to good use.

I finally finished this game after 80 some odd hours, getting all the achievements and playing through all of the dlc. I thought all of the dlc was worthwhile, especially compared to what other games are offering. Really liked the end of Broken Steel too, much more satisfying conclusion than the end of the vanilla game.

Hi guys, I haven't been following this thread lately but I have a query. I saw a deal at GAME for Operation Anchorage and The Pitt for just under the space bucks price on XBLMP. It tickled my interests as I haven't purchased any of the DLC (after 90 hours on my first play through <3, I'd had my fill). Anyway, I'm wondering if there are any plans for all the DLC coming to retail in one package? If so, I'll hold off on my tickled interests.

So I got my Platinum trophy for Fallout 3 long time ago and I'll be buying the GOTY Edition once it's released (fuck digital distribution) and I was wondering if anyone knows if the GOTY Edition with show up as a separate game in my trophy list or merely add the dlc content onto my current Fallout 3 trophy list?

I finally jumped into the Fallout 3 expansions. I got Broken Steel and Point Lookout

First I got Broken Steel for the added quest line in the Waste and the level cap increase.
I didn't like it. The quest line was boring and the ending was tedious and annoying. Fighting the Enclave has always been the absolute worst part of Fallout 3 to me. The last bit was pretty much just "throw a shit load of dudes at you!!!! LOLOL!!!". Terrible. I very glad when it was finished.
This expansion left a bad taste in my mouth and I delayed buying my next one for over a week.

But I finally went ahead and got Point Lookout.

Instantly I knew this would be MUCH different. And I was correct. This is easily the best Fallout 3 experience I've had, including the main game. It kind of reminds me of the Burnout Big Surf expansion. This is a smaller area thats packed with superior gameplay than the original area. The main quest line was very fun. Even managed to surprised me a few times.

But the real star I've found, are the side quests. Specifically The Velvet Curtain and The Dark Heart of Blackhall. God those quests were great. I LOVE when the game stops focusing on combat and has me explore the areas. I literally stumbled on The Velvet Curtain and was shocked at what it was having me do. Going from location to location, gathering documents and then finally having to solve a puzzle. It was so much fun.
Then there's The Dark Heart of Blackhall, which had me go back to the Capital Wasteland to finish the quest. I love that it did that.

I'm pretty sure I have like 2 or 3 side quests left so I should have another hour or so of gameplay left.

When it comes to the other expansions, The Pitt and Mothership Zeta look interesting to me. Operation: Anchorage will never get bought because it looks like crap.

How is The Pitt compared to Point Lookout? Is the new area much smaller? How are the missions?

And based on what I've said so far, should I bother with Mothership Zeta?

Operation Anchorage gets you the best armor in the game, it's worth $10 for the loot alone.

Supposedly the last DLC will only be available on disc via the GOTY edition, so you may as well buy the download unless you want to rebuy the whole game.

people keep saying that. i looked it up. doesn't looks like anything i would care about.

edit: to clarify. I play the game with god mode on. anything related to weapons/armor are irrelevant to me. My character is wearing the Regulator Duster, Combat helmet, and uses the double barrel'd shotgun.

Well, 10 months, and 135 hours later, I finally beat this awesome game! I was soo pissed about the level cap at 30, and knew there wouldn't be enough levels. I ended up playing on easy for less experience! I had to grind for 3 hours at the end, because I was on level 27, I even used the "Here and Now" perk! It was awesome, minus the fucking glitches, and not getting some achievements, which are worthless, I know, but I cared and wanted to get 1550G and I did!:D I had just gotten the last mission Achievement and left and then it froze:lol :lol We parted ways there! I loved this game, definitely tie for GOTY last year for me( MGS4)! I'm looking forward to Vegas, I'll probably get it on the PC though for the mods!
Thanks Bethesda, for the awesome, and the not soo awesome!:lol :D

I'm still playing the "main game" and just got to the part where you get back to The Citadel after escaping
and destroying Ravenrock or whatever it's called
. I have no idea how much I have left in the main game at this point, but I hit level 20 so now I've just stopped playing until the PS3 DLC is released and I can pick up Broken Steel. I want to finish the game's main quest and get the storyline.

I'm somewhat "played out" of the world itself, so I've somewhat lost interest in going out exploring and finding a ton of side quests to do, but I'm still wanting to finish the main narrative. I wish BS would get out sooner than September, but oh well, I picked up Dead Space for cheap to play in the meantime - loving that game, actually.

Operation Anchorage is very linear, and you can't use any of your items/weapons, as the entire thing takes place inside a simulator. You also can't leave once you begin, you are stuck there until you finish. Doesn't really have much of a story, though you get a bit of background on the Chinese Invasion that's mentioned in the main game. Not worth the DL, especially in your case where armor/weapons don't matter, as that was really the only good thing about OA; the Stealth suit and Gauss rifle.

The Pitt was better than OA, but again, you are taken to a place and stripped of all your items and can't leave until the end. There is more of a story in this one, but not a lot that ties into the main game, save for a few tidbits about the Brotherhood of Steel. Not really much in the way of good weapons/armor either, there is a new melee weapon, the Auto Axe, but it's not worth it IMO.

Mothership Zeta is completely linear, and once again, once you are there, you are stuck until you are done. This one has almost no story at all, save for some audio logs you find while playing. Almost all the new weapons are energy based, and there really isn't much in the way of good armor (though the
Samurai Armor
looks cool). Once you're done, you can travel up to the mothership at any time, so it can be used for another storehouse, but you can't re-visit 90% of the ship when you come back, so it's kinda pointless.

TLDR version: You already have the 2 best DLC packs, and since you don't really care about new armor/guns, there isn't much reason to buy the remaining DLC.

If were to buy the GOTY edition later this year, would I be able to load my saves from the regular version I've been playing? (I'm on 360)
You could do it on Oblivion on the PS3, so I would imagine they'll support it. Hope so anyway, I'm waiting for the GotY as well before carrying on with my game.

So today I was looking through my 360s Hard Drive and I realized that in the Fallout 3 folder my point outlook file was there 3x.

The first file was 450MB.

The second was 414MB and the third was 413MB.

What the heck is going on? The 450MB file was originally downloaded a few days after it came out and the second and third files were downloaded the EXACT day I played F3 which was over a month ago. I am pretty sure that I did not download the second and third file.

I just looked through my trophy list after the 3.0 update and my Fallout is down to 53%. The update added all the DLC trophies. Maybe its a sign that its coming out soon.

Hey Gaf. I've been using the search and looking for a thread of recommended Fallout 3 mods for close to an hour now. Not really having much luck.

Normally I wouldn't mind reading through an entire thread to find the info I'm looking for but damn if I'm going to read through 120 + pages.

So GAF what are the best MODS that I can use for Fallout 3? The reason I ask is because I've tried to get into this game several times. First bought for 360, then later for ps3 (trophies) I couldn't really get into either of them. I think mainly to do with the bland enviroment.

I saw a mod on PC to give the environments more color so I figure what the hell I'll triple dip and give it another shot. I need to know some other good mods. Please someone point me to a post in this behemoth thread, make some recommendations, or point me to a website.

Thanks.

Well, yeah, since they already announced that Broken Steel is coming in late September, so it'll likely be released on the 25th.

I can't personally vouch for these since I'm on the 360 but I saw this the other day

Use the disks then trade them in - I'll actually be in profit after doing this after buying from Amazon uk. :lol

Or just trade your original for a GOTY pre-owned a few months down the road.

Another question on upgrading to a GOTY edition - would it use the same achievement list, or would it register as a separate game with separate achievements?

It should be the same game list, I would be shocked if it was a seperate list.

So far I've been playing with the "Green World" and "Fellout" mods. Both of which add a little color to the bleak depressing color pallet. Thanks for the URL that website is gold for fallout 3 mods. I'll give it plenty of use.

I know it may sound silly but I've 'tried' to play this on both 360 and ps3. The environment always just got me down. Now that I have pc version with the mods listed above I'm finding the game to be much more enjoyable, personally.

head to the FREE to a good home thread. They're passing around the Fallout DLC discs. Theres a bit of a line, but still.

Here

So I've got an annoying glitch, and couldn't find anything with google.. hoping someone can help me here

First of all, I only rely on quick save and auto save (and i play the pc version of the game) which is the biggest problem right now, since i can't really go back to an older save that was many many hours of gameplay ago

the glitch basically is that every single interaction action my character does, it results in bad karma.. talking in an intercom, checking a mailbox, talking to a person, giving purified water to guy in rivet (this proves there is a curious bug - because first i get good karma, then immediately after bad karma follows it)

i'm guessing there is some sort of loop or something that isn't properly terminating in the code (and loading auto and quick saves doesn't help), so i was wondering, by any chance, does anyone know of a console command that might refresh/restart the karma checking process?

i know this is a long shot.. but i don't want to replay the last five or six hours of gameplay

I couldn't find anything about resetting the Karma value.

rewardkarma amount, rewardxp amount - give player karma or xp or taking away.

example:
player.rewardkarma -1000 - Loses 1,000 Karma

p.s.
Check this fallout 3 wiki for all of the console commands I didn't see what you were looking for but I didn't look through all of them.

thanks mate, after trying those from the wikia (which i found just after i posted) and still came to no victory, i removed all my mods to see if something dodgy was happening - turns out one of my mods was causing it.. took a long time to go one by one through them to see which would trigger it again.. interesting that the one that caused it had no relation to what i was doing at the time (quest in Andale), nor to karma (it was a weapon mod)

I see post after post agreeing to this. What the hell am I doing wrong?

I bought the 360 version didn't enjoy. Found it on mega sale for ps3 bought for 20 bucks. Still couldn't get into it. Despite these facts I recently bought the pc version again on mega sale. I've tried to play this game on all platforms. Mind you the PC version is so far my favorite (mainly because of MODS).

What am I missing here?? I loved oblivion (over 120 hours) so the gameplay style is not what is standing in the way. Please you guys that have recently agreed with best game ever sentiment explain to me what it is that makes you feel that way. Tell me what I'm not doing right.

I want to love this game. Please HELP!

Did a trophy sync yesterday and all the DLC trophies showed up, including the ones for Mothership Zeta. Glad to see they're not total vaporware on PS3.

I agree on the value of Fallout 3, it is simply put the best single player experiance I've had on my Xbox 360 so far. I just finished the game and am working through the last of the DLC quests now.

It's only coming in disc form on the GOTY edition I think. I sold my copy of the game and i'm just waiting for it.

This is how I feel. I really want to like the game but I can't get into it. I've had it since launch and pop it in now and then trying it out but I just can't. I'm constantly dying and using all my ammo on all my guns just to get through some parts. I must be playing it wrong because it just doesn't seem right. Plus, I am always out of health items so I have a hard time staying alive. I only have the 360 version but I'm like you where I've thought about buying it for the PS3 and the PC because I feel it's more of a PC game but I'm not sure if it would run on my iMac in boot camp.

I was looking at my achievements after I finished Mother ship Zeta.. I played Fallout 3 every month from January to August except for July this year. I think that is the longest I have ever played ANY game. Over a hundred hours. Insanity.

I also did not like the game when I first played it. I was constantly dying and had a hard time finding ammo for my shitty guns. My advice is to give it some time, and to do the easy sidequests first (try Moira's first 3 sidequests). Once you are about 4 hours in the game and starting to get acceptable guns and leveling up, the game will undoubtedly suck you in. Fallout 3 is one of those games that gets progressively easier. By the middle of the game, you can pretty much kick the ass of almost every enemy provided you have the adequate stats.

Good advice. As annoying as Moira is I'm willing to do her sidequests if it will enable me to level and get better stuff. I don't want to die from a freaking crab man while just walking around.
