Can anyone confirm whether the 360 version of the GOTY edition contains the DLC on disc, or is it gears of war ripoff style download codes?
it comes with two DVD's, one is the game the other is the add-ons

I just bought the GotY (ps3 version).
EDIT: can i choose to install de DLC or not?. Wich one is best... play all the game and then install de DLC?. I read somewhere that if i install everything, the game become more glitchy, and i will find some monster that it shouldn't be found.

all the game data is installed to the hard drive (6 GB worth) , you dont have a choice, all the add-ons are installed

People sure know how to ruin videogames![/QUOTE]
I've seen worse :(

Wow, after finishing the main storyline, the game has become pretty damn buggy. Constant frame rate dips, NPC followers standing still when told to follow, teleporting, extremely slow loading, game freezes forcing hard resets, etc. Why can't Bethesda just patch the PS3 version? Come on, it's the least you owe us for giving us the damn DLC so late. :lol

For those running Windows 7 64-bit, there is a good chance you will have problems with the GOTY edition. I have an i5 with an Nvidia GTX 260 and all the latest drivers and I have had nothing but problems installing and running this game today. I received this for Christmas and sadly, it seems Windows 7 support is not really being addressed on Bethesda's website. I couldn't even get the DLC disc to install. Pretty disappointed.

So to adjust the resolutions and settings for the PC version (i have the retail version), you have to put in the disc, right?

It seems really awkward. I thought i could do in the settings option in game, but those to be different options.

It's Bethesda. It's the same deal in Oblivion. Essentially, they pull this shit in every game. On the PC you have the mod community fixing things, so they are used to ignoring their customers after selling the game.

The question is why would they release a game this buggy to begin with. The answer is because people buy them in droves anyways. I swear not to buy their games again until they change their business practice. There are enough games in this world to not put up with having my console hangs every 15 minutes.

Just finished downloading the GOTY (PC). Should I go straight to the mods, or play vanilla for a bit?

This is the first time I'm playing with mods (and its my third playthrough). The only essential ones I'm using are the Caravan one (makes NPCs invulnerable) and the Beauty HD mod (for aesthetic reason). The Dogmeat Leather armor is also helpful without unbalancing the game.

Man, I'm amazed at some of the places I missed in this game (small out of the way places). Like the sniper perch with the shack that used to be inhabited by one of the (Keller?) family members. It was fortified with tires and metal barrels. Inside the shack contained various items place a little cage with two living rad roaches. Its finding these type of things that I love about this game.

I'm using a mod that marks the smaller physical interests that aren't marked without it.

I know what ya mean. The More Map Markers mod I posted has helped me find a lot of things I missed out on the first time. I just discovered The Roach King. Wtf is up with that dude? There's little to no explanation for a lot of the things you find out there, but what's there really serves to spark the imagination and make the world feel alive.

I actually ran into The Roach King for the first time in this playthrough :lol Yeah, these weird encounters / areas is what makes this game so great.

I picked up the 360 GotY edition while BestBuy had it for 40 bones and I was not disappointed. After a couple trial characters to get a feel for it, I've started on my main char. I'm amazed at the amount of content already and I haven't gotten past level 10. Any tips for a nub at Fallout?

I consider to buy the Fallout 3 GotY Edition. Is all available DLC on the disc (or on a separate disc to install) or does it contain download codes like the Gears of War 2 GotY Edition?

Arg. Just hit level 11 and am trying to do the quest at anchorage something or other (put the observer in the crab people nest).

I can't get out of the flooded metro because a group of talon mercs kills me in 15 seconds when I'm on the stairs coming out of the subway.

You probably found a way out of this but I believe there's another exit out of the Metro

All DLC is on the second disk, main install is on the first disk. The DLC is just an executable that installs ESM? files into Fallout 3's data folder.

You are probably talking about the PC version. Sorry for the misunderstanding. My question referred to the XBox 360 version of Fallout 3 GotY.

I have had a ton of problems with the retail version of FO3 GOTY on my rig with Windows 7 64-bit. Good luck!

I've had a 64bit Windows 7 upgrade DVD just waiting to be used on my main gaming PC. I think I'll just stick with Vista Ultimate 64bit for now. That sucks that Fallout 3 has issues. It is surprising considering 7 is being marketed as a streamlined version of Vista.

Of course Fallout 3 has not been without crashes even on my Vista machine though. I probably experience a crash to the desktop about once every five hours.

Well, i can't speak for the retail version, but I've been playing the Steam version on 7 64-bit, and have yet to see any crashes or issues.

I'm still just roaming Megaton right now.

The 360 version comes with two discs, with the full game on the first and all of the DLC content on the second. You can install them any time and in any order.

Yeah, I ran into a bug on Mothership Zeta. The girl was supposed to unlock a door but she tends to stick in position and won't move to unlock it (and there's seemingly nothing you can do). I pity the person that plays this game on the consoles since they don't get a possible "get out of jail free" card PC users get (in the form of console commands). I was able to turn off the clipping and move on to the next area... though I'm still not sure if this'll allow me to finish the thing.

Bethesda seems to have been having a huge amount of issues with Fallout GOTY (and people have been extremely vocal about it). I would like to think this would make them change their negligence regarding bugs but its been this bad since Morrowind.

Recently completed the main story (360) and about to continue some other quests and the broken steel dlc. Problem is that I somehow lost dogmeat and Fawkes during the story ending cutscene, which blows. Checked at 101, 87, and the scrapyard, as well as the purifier, and can't find either anywhere. Any suggestions?

roommate posted this on another forum, but didn't get much of an answer, gonna try here? lol

I bought the GOTY edition from Steam a couple weeks back and quickly became a Fallout 3 addict. I finished the main storyline and to my dismay, the game ended and brought me back to the main menu. Isn't the Broken Steel DLC supposed to change the ending and let you keep playing? The GOTY edition is supposed to include Broken Steel and all other DLC, but I seem to be missing it. Is there something else I need to install?

Any idea what happened to my saves? When I started the game today, the options 'load' and 'continue' were grey and unselectable. But all my auto and full-saves are still sitting in C:\Users\Slavik\Documents\My Games\Fallout3\Saves\Slavik81.

Steam version of GotY edition. Win7 x64.

EDIT: Oh, the problem was that I was not signed into GFW Live. Ugh. I really wish they hadn't forced us to use that.

dogmeat should be in the front of the vault you left in the beginning of the game, can't remember the name.

I found fawkes chillin at a library or something, can't remember for sure.

That, my friend, is an A bug (aka progression stopper) and would not have passed MS or Sony submission (if it happens consistently). I guess there's an upside to owning the console version of some games afterall. :D

There's a way to disable GFW (specifically for Fallout) but I'm not sure if your current saves would still be usable once disabled.

There seems to be two instances of it (the one I posted about and another where she goes but doesn't unlock the door). This is in the Mothership Zeta DLC though, not the main game.

You just need to copy them to a different folder.

Fawkes hangs out at the Ghoul city (Underworld?)

Thanks, but I tried going back to vault 101 for dogmeat. I didn't actually enter the vault, but I looked around outside pretty thoroughly.

Finally finished Broken Steel. Last mission was quite epic, but plenty of bugs to go around. NPC's would get stuck and not follow, the framerate would constantly dip, the game would freeze, etc. Anyway, which DLC should I play now that I finished BS? :D

That's because Dogmeat is still at the old, original instance of the Purifier. Once you start Broken Steel, the gameworld cell the building occupies is replaced by a new Purifier instance.

I had the same thing happen to me. Fortunately, I game on PC so it was just a matter of teleporting myself to Dogmeat's position (the old instance continues to exist, it's just unreachable from the gameworld on foot) and then walking out of the Purifier with Dogmeat. Since you played the 360 version, you're out of luck I'm afraid, unless you start over the final mission and leave your companions outside the building before going in.

Such errors occur frequently in the console versions as well; they are primarily due to the complexity of the game and its engine, not the underlying platform. There is no discernable difference between the various builds in terms of stability, but on PC you at least have the ability to work around the bugs (see above).

Point Lookout probably, it offers the most meat.

Thanks, that makes sense, as frustrating as it is.

Anyway, I actually managed to solve the issue... for google posterity, what I did was choose the puppies perk once I hit level 22. For whatever reason, this seemed to fix things. As soon as I slept and reawakened at my megaton house, I received notification that dogmeat's puppy was waiting outside Vault 101 and Fawkes was waiting in the Museum of History.

Just beat the Broken Steel campaign at level 45 and about 50 hours, and I'm ready to hang it up for awhile. What a game!

Man, I love the Enclave element of Fallout (2 and 3). A rogue part of the US Government trying to reclaim power. They come off as so sinister and with the added element of mysteriousness. Definitely one of the cooler enemies in gaming.

And I just acquired the "Incinerator". Holy shit, best Heavy Weapon. It feels so powerful, throwing these fireballs at the enemy and having them explode like fireworks.

Interesting. I also had that perk, but since I had long since reached level 30 by the time I started Broken Steel (possible with the GOTY version), a new Dogmeat never showed up. I suppose getting the perk the first time sort of "resets" the status or location of Dogmeat.

Level 25 I assume? 50 hours is still pretty short; my full GOTY game was about 140 hours. There's plenty left to explore.

Nothing rogue about them in my opinion; they are the US government, or rather, what's left of them.

IIRC, you don't get any equipment from the simulation itself. However, you can get most of simulation's items and weapons from the nearby armory after the simulation.

IronFistedChampion said:

No, you don't keep the impervious simulation versions. Afterwards you get the perishable real-life versions as your reward. However, apparently Bethesda (accidently?) swapped the real-life armour and helmet with the simulation versions, meaning that those two reward items are well-nigh indestructible.

After OA you will not need another set of armour, unless you want one for cosmetic reasons.

Just finished The pitt, Had alot of fun searching for the steel ingots. Moved onto Point lookout and the enemys are extremely tough. Had to bust out some alien weaponry on there ass.

I do enjoy playing the settings though. So i like sticking with the shotgun and rifle in lookout but damn the mansion defense was tough at times.

Scipius said:

Yeah, I just read the Vault Wiki on the Enclave and it states they were the old US Government (actually the Shadow Government).

On another note, yesterday I acquired the
Tesla Cannon
. Oh man is that such a sick weapons, the Gauss Rifle has been replaced.

I know you get the Winterized version of the Tb-51 Power Armor in the armory (I already have the regular version so don't really care for it) as well as the stealth ninja suit, but things like the Winterized Combat Armor w/ Balaclava are simulation-only.
