I briefly put up a bunch of pics of this map the other day, but then took them down because I wasn't really satisfied with it. I'm pretty happy with it now.
I've semi-jokingly called this Bifocal (Beta!) for now. (
File Share) Basically, it's a two-level map set in the Sandbox basin, with the second level accessible for vehicles. I thought it might be interesting to have map where ground based vehicles are going around on two distinct planes.
Right now it's only set up for Slayer and CTF. I'd love some input before I work on the other gametypes, make sure there are no major changes needed.
The map is symmetrical across the center line (short side).
Rear of the base. The vehicle assortment is the same as default Sandbox, which I thought worked well. A Chopper, Warthog and two Mongoose. The base has plasma grenades and SMGs, a power drain on one side and the regen on the other. The missile pod is on the other side of the inward facing ramps, in an outward facing nook.
Heading up to the top, on the first corner there's a bubble shield, Brute Shot and Needler. Since the last (short lived) post of the map I completely redid the top level. I wanted a balance of cover, long sight lines and lanes for vehicles to drive through at high speed. It doesn't look like a lot, but I spent a crazy amount of time testing this for both cover and drivablity.
Running along the outside edge is risky, but it's a straight shot across the top level.
The risk of course is in getting knocked off; that's why the Brute Shot is up there. Getting to the other side at full speed is fun though.
On foot, the cover on the top.
Heading to the laser in the center.
Moving to the bottom level, I wanted closer quarters combat. Three platforms, the center forward, provide cover on the approach. Leaning against the outside of the side stone platforms to either side are a rocket launcher and shotgun. The center has the active camo. Wrapping around the center are two "m" shaped tunnel sets, the exits all pointing inward.
Sword in the center, right below the laser on the top level.
In addition to the two large ramps, there's a sneakier way up on either side in the center.
With active camo, you can head back up top and approach the base from there, or sneak through the bottom level.
That's about it. It's fun to drive around on, which is about all I can test solo.
One side has an overshield on it and is a bit wider, otherwise the sides are symmetrical as well.
