Wow, stupid to set the Buy It Now option so low...or to set one even at all.

Yep it was sold and youre right about the buy it now. Stupid. It actually lends weight to the idea that it wasnt a real copy of the game.... the seller may have just been keen to make some quick bucks and sell it for a small profit. If it was fake maybe that $150 was 90% profit. The lower the buy it now, the sooner the sale happens and the sooner he has his $$$.

Are those yahoo quoted spots gonna be available anywhere on "teh internetz"?

They look like a very interesting and original marketing campaign.

If someone spoils Halo 3 for me I will hunt then down and hurt them physically with great vigour, but there is no way I am leaving the internets.

How's this thread going to reach 10000 posts by official release date if everyone acts all skittish over a few spoilers?

I think it's going to get 2000 posts in one day the day before release regardless

I tried to go dark and failed miserably last time, about 1 day before release I broke down and started devouring reviews. The arbiter was spoiled about 6 times over for me :(. I'm going to try and go full dark for reviews this time around.

Hey all.

Just wanted to inform you that I WILL be updating the thread itself regularly--I fear no spoilers from teh internets, and by damn, I still have a shitload of giveaways. The postings WILL continue, despite the possibility that some ignorant fool at meijer / walmart / target may have been too busy to read the street-date sticker before scanning their job away. :)

Ghaleon--just look for my post history for my updates when editing the OP.

Some more giveaways are on the way . . . and you know the best is saved for last.

Glad to hear at least some brave souls will be sticking around. I'm too excited about Halo 3 to go dark until its release. Looking forward to the updates and giveaways.

could there be a worse time for a 360 owner to get the three red lights?

ok - maybe on the day of Halo 3s release...

and just happened to me.... ARRRGHH

happened to my buddy yesterday. he went and bought a new Elite.
is transfering his data and then sending in his old to have fixed.

when he gets it back i am airbrushing it with a Halo 3 theame and he's gunna throw it on ebay to try and recover some of his expenses.

hell i am tempted to paint mine right now with a halo 3 theame and stick it on ebay right before the release and use the funds to get an elite to go along with the new tv i plan to get next week.

I bet those Brutes treat the poor Grunts worse then the noble Elites. :'(

I've actually got plans to try and do a day in the life of a Grunt via saved films later this year. I'm debating about doing the film as a Grunt or doing it as an omnipotent narrator, March of the Penguins style.

Which reminds me: Bungie guys, I'd love it you had some DLC to unlock alternate "skins" in Forge (move around as a Hunter, Grunt, Brute, etc for machinima purposes).

Halo 3: Machinima Pack...that's a cool idea!

Don't know how much you know, but this is the release schedule:

Yahoo! Games to premiere Halo 3 videos
As Halo 3 nears its highly anticipated release, Yahoo! Games will be premiering new story elements from the saga.

By YVG Staff

Yahoo! Games will exclusively unveil two new Halo 3 videos this week.

The first, entitled "Museum," depicts a former UNSC Marine reminiscing about a great battle he fought alongside Master Chief -- a battle players will get to experience first-hand in the upcoming action shooter.

The second video, entitled "Believe," will be the full-length version of an upcoming TV commercial that's part of the game's launch campaign. The additional footage will only be available to view on Yahoo! Games.

Launch schedule:
Wed 9/12, 9AM P.T.: "Museum" Video
Fri 9/14, 9AM P.T.: "Believe" Video

Check out these sneak peek snaps and check back later this week for the full reveals!

I like the angle for the Museum video. I don't expect to see live-action or gameplay footage, just the marine recounting the battle, it is meant to tease and hype. Seems like they're going for more emotional vibe (like with Gears), but even cooler (tied in with the story and the game, little background, giving it more personaliy) and going the extra mile. I really like the idea cause you get to see the universe from different angles.

I agree. I'm in love with the concept so far, I hope the execution is as good.

The diaroma, with the marines stuck in the sand, getting killed...makes me wonder if they put some focus on this in the game too. In the vi-docs we've seen some brutal animations of Marines getting their limbs pulled off by brutes...
The personality of the elites makes you respect them. The brutes are not different skinned elites, maybe Bungie wants you to hate, fear and dispise the brutes because of their brutality.

Do you think it was a bit premature for Ghaleon etc to go dark? It was only a copy on eBay.

If there is one, there must be more. It's seriously only a matter of time.

I'm sticking around and hoping nothing happens on GAF.

SPOILER UPDATE! Nextgen.biz has a front page article about Halo 3 today as their top story. I clicked on it because based on the heading, I assumed it was a general article about Halo as a whole. Its not. Its about the 3rd level of Halo 3. You'll read all about the start and the first encounters.

Because of the way it was written, I thought it was about commercials. Its not. Its about campaign. Steer clear.

I'm just left with Gamersyde (main page), Eurogamer (all) and NeoGAF of my gaming links now. All other forums / game sites are off limits.

Eurogamer is likely to be the next to go as I'm not sure the mods will be able to stem the tide of asshats registering to post spoilers.

NOT READING THREAD NOT READING THREAD NOT READING THREAD

Thanks to Teino for the heads-up, I've added the Edge article hosted at Next-Gen.biz to the OP. It's the best-written preview of the game so far, and really shames other similar efforts, such as EGM (which wasn't bad, just by comparison). The writing is some of the best I've seen in a preview. There are no new spoilers in it, and almost nothing about the story at all

Naturalizing something only smoke and mirrors managed to achieve in its forebears has subtly changed Halo 3’s battlefield. “In Halo 1 and 2 you’d have to spawn a load of guys at the front, and once the player has killed those guys, you’d spawn some guys behind a rock and so the entire battle would sort of play out the same way,” says Jaime Greisemer, Halo 3’s sandbox design lead, the man behind the new weapons and equipment, damage systems and AI behaviors. “But now we spawn a whole battlefield full of guys and have fun. If you want to engage these guys right up front, you can. If you want to stand up on a ridge, they’ll start shooting back.”

The result is a lot more variety. Encounters have even greater fluidity than before, organically ebbing and flowing with your actions. It’s common to push forward too quickly and find yourself attacked from all sides, so apart from managing your weaponry, it’s now important to tactically manage your troops. It’s often wise to hang back and give support, allowing them to clean up less powerful enemies, and protect them by carefully taking out threats. In the same spirit, AI is the same, but more. A new group dynamic means leaders will audibly give their troops orders, such as to throw grenades, and they will, in an alarming barrage. Meanwhile, your troops interact with the environment with new sophistication. They’ll hop over debris on the ground or kick it out of the way, and they’ll open doors if you’re in a vehicle.

In many ways, Halo 3 is a result of its fans-to-be. Every element is tuned for social interaction, acts of creation and idle play, and careful attention to the second-by-second experiences of simply playing the game. “Every game Bungie has made has in some way been about listening to what our fans have asked for,” confirms Jarrad. “Within minutes of the beta starting there were Halo videos showing tactics, people trying to break the maps, doing things we never thought they would do. The way people can be creative in the game is exponentially greater than it ever was before. So our goal is to allow that to happen but not in a way that will negatively impact the game. For us, there’s so much at stake with this game, so many new features and technologies – I’m not sure we could ever not hold public betas in future games.”

The level of such ambition has put huge pressure on Bungie. It could have simply updated the existing, proven components that already made Halo the legend it has become. “It’s just the Bungie way,” says Jarrad. “People here talk about Halo 3 being the Halo game they always wanted to make. We want it to be the definitive experience the guys here always had in their heads.”

Halo 3 will be a game of depth and scale, of mechanics, of appeal and of ambition. It’s meticulously focused, yet radiant with expansive possibility. And, with two months of obsessive polishing to go, it’s already one of the most supremely confident games we’ve ever seen. “But nothing will ever be good enough for the people in this building,” claims Jarrad. “We always joke that at some point someone will have to come along and prise the code out of our hands because we will tweak and tune right up till the final second. And each day it just gets more fun to play.”

If you only read one more Halo 3 preview before launch, read this one. If you're not going to read any others, read it anyways.

I agree Ghaleon, that Edge was great and extremely well written. Although I found it amusing them calling Tsavo HWY "Silent" HWY. Obviously getting confused with Silent Cartographer.

Really great article though.

I just played my last ever game of Halo 2 (coincidentally it was also my 3,300th game, which is a nice round number), with Brainboy, who also posts on GAF. It was a 1v1 duel on Lockout, first to 15 kills, with BR start. I took an early lead until Brainboy went on a spree, then it slowly levelled out until it became tit-for-tat and tied on 14 apiece. Brainboy finally died valiantly on the sniper perch from a few frags I bounced around the corner. And that is probably the last Halo I will play in any form until October at the earliest (December is more likely), because I am missing the Halo 3 launch both through practical reasons, and as a point of principle and sacrifice for the masters course I begin in another country on Friday. I won't have Internet there for a while either, so I will probably miss most of the hoopla and hype of the final two weeks, and of the week of launch.

It sucks that Halo 3 has been spotted in the wild, because it would have been nice to think that you were all here happily speculating and anticipating in my absence, unwatched. As it is, I want to thank GhaleonEB and m0dus, and whoever else, for making this one of the most intelligent and tolerant Halo community threads on the wide Internet. I hope this game is everything all of you want it to be, and more, and maybe I'll see some of you soon enough. If and when you do, please be kind. I will, after all, be a Halo 3 noob.

Hum, that means the humans wins? I didn't expect any less, but that sucks knowing parts of the outcome of the game.

Wow, so many people are freaking out over spoilers? I'm as hardcore as Halo fans get and you don't see me freaking out like an oversensitive teenage whore who got pregnant on prom night. Jeez. I say, give me the spoilers, I'm gonna fuckin' know what happens eventually anyway.

It's a museum on the brutes home world, human kind are salves to them at the end of Halo 3. Believe.

I cannot wait until those two videos are released, they sound cool.

Indeed. It was a great match, and I was almost getting emotional when we were back in the lobby and saying good-bye. Not just to one another, but to a game which has kept both of us entertained for almost three years (I had to just look that up.... I thought it was only two!). However, I must defend my valiant loss and say that my last death was surely a glitch, as there was no grenade anywhere near me. Perhaps it is appropriate that I would love to see a saved film of the match to see what I did wrong.

Like Mr. Appeal, I too am off next week to return to university, but since I am still young and immature, I am of course taking my beloved Xbox 360 with me. I have only owned it for a few months, but I know that, once Halo 3 comes out, it will all be worth it. I look forward to playing with every single one of you because, as Shake put it, there is a great community here. I ask you to be kind as well, because not only did I not participate in the Beta, but I will be joining the fray a day later than most of you anyway.

Silent Highway was the development name of the level, like how Shrine became Sandtrap.

Not many videogame journo's "Get" halo and what makes it special. Most either just realize "wow this is good," or can't explain why something is good. The edge article on the other hand, nails what makes Halos in the past so much fun, beyond just quoting that whole 30 second bit.
