Just realized something; I'm immune to spoilers, so if any mod or admin wants to make me a mod for the next 4 weeks, I can help clean things up.

Sadly, this is true. While going dark will hopefully decrease my chance of spoilers, I actually had Halo 2 spoiled for me in a different way. I remember the moment vividly - I was at work, under a stage, running some wires to an amp. I got a phone call from an acquaintance. I answered the phone and he asked me if I'd heard that Halo 2 leaked, and then said that he'd downloaded it and played through it the previous night. I asked him to please not tell me anything about it, and he agreed, and then started talking about how fun it was. He said, "and the levels where you play as the Elite are awesome because you can go invisible." He tried to clean it up by saying, "uh, I mean, the levels where you fight the elites, you can get the invisibility powerup." But it was done. After he apologized and we got off the phone, I laid in the dark for a few moments, contemplating what had just happened. I was very sad, that day.

Well, dude, I didn't mean for people to hide in their attics and send automated drones to pick up their copies or anything. I'm just saying the internet is a BEAST when it comes to information. Like the Harry Potter spoiler I mentioned earlier for example. Remember how that just ran through the internet like the fuckin Juggernaut? I don't even read Harry Potter and I heard all about that shit.

Put it this way, I actively seeked spoilers for The 6th Sense or whatever that Bruce Willis movie was and I was still pleased with the outcome. M. Night pulled it off so well.

Then he started getting wacky, but that's later movies.

Also, from playing BioShock so much, I pictured one of those little bots flying to EB for me, with the alarm sounding the whole time.

Yeah, I'm officially bailing out. I'll continue to update the OP, and toss notice of those updates in here. Watch the change log at the top of the OP for updates as well. But I'm done participating in discussion.

DEFCON 1 is reached. Defense shields UP. ETC.

See ya'll around the 27th, after I beat Campaign.

Pay off the whole game when you use the coupon and it will work. It worked for me and I got $13 off each one of my Legendary copies.

Ferrex, without hinting at any story material. How insane are the possible spoilers for Halo 3? H2 level Arbiter stuff or worse? Basically what I'm asking, is there something we could read that would absolutely without a doubt destroy the story experience?
 
I'm not sure I even want to assign threat levels to the things that can be spoiled, that in itself is a sort of spoiler.

Suffice it to say that I as a gamer would be unhappy to learn some of those things in advance of the final credits rolling. I expect you would be too.
 
If you're going to stay off GAF you might as well turn off your 360 and not check any XBL messages until after the 25th as well. There's an entire thread devoted to GAF Halo 3 gamertags, it's like shooting fish in a barrel.
 
After going through the last 10 pages, I really hope that many of you will simply stop posting for the next 2 weeks and not because I want you guys to avoid potential halo 3 spoilers :lol

I'm with Brannon though, I'm fairly immune to spoilers. For whatever reason learning about the ending of something in advance doesn't bother me that much. I care enough to maybe not get online the last couple days, but other than that whatever. I'm not going to search out spoilers or anything though :p

One extra precaution some of you might want to consider:

I'm going through my Xbox LIVE friends list and deleting any "questionables" from it. I know I'm not the only one who added somebody because they needed a teammate, despite the person being somewhat of an ass.

Also, I sent out a message to all my friends asking them not to send me any messages about Halo 3 until Sept. 25th, and even then, only game invites.

I know all this sounds kinda paranoid, but they're easy steps toward keeping the game unspoiled and if I don't hear anything before the 25th, I'll consider them both good moves.

I wonder what made him go from Defcon 3 to Defcon 1 so quickly? Are there developments I don't know about?

All I know is that a copy apparently sold on Ebay, and there's a picture of the game case that is either legitimate or one of the best photoshop jobs ever.

I think it was ferrex's post. Not that ferrex confirmed anything we didn't know, but just hearing a Bungie employee say, "it's gonna be tough, good luck avoiding spoilers guys," was enough to send him packing. It's almost enough for me, too.
 
It like some of you expect some world changing revelation from Halo 3 story. What could possibly happen to surprise anyone except another cliffhanger ending? Oh well.

No matter which way you slice it, it simply sucks to have something ruined for you. Especially something that you have waited so long for, and to get to this point, only two weeks away, and some sweaty dooche shit on everything you have waited for. It's angering.

I'm honestly not worried about spoilers, this place has never spoiled me before, with any game. I even avoided all Halo 2 spoilers until I purposely highlighted Drinky's post and found out you played as The Arbiter about a day or two before the game came out. :lol

As long as I don't get the ending spoiled I'm good...*crosses fingers*

I think people are overreacting. HP 7 leaked and it was not difficult to avoid spoilers. Actually I had a hard time finding reliable ones!

I can see both sides of the argument. I feel somewhat safe here at GAF. I've been spoiled for Bioshock and HP 7 here but it was my own fault for highlighting. I just have to force myself not to highlight. Also those spoilers weren't as significant because I value my Halo much more than those two.

Exactly what Ive been saying. If you get spoiled its your own fault - but I guess there is the slight possibility for some hero to do what Ferrex said, which is posting 5 or 6 words that give away something huge and you happen to goto last page and see it before its dealt with.

Ill say theres a light risk.
 
So I also just read the full HALO script by Alex Garland.

I disagree with whoever posted before. To me it's everything the HALO movie should be. I thought it was perfect. It was action packed and had a dark tone to it just like HALO CE.

My guess is DB Weiss was probably brought in to re-write it for the PG13 crowd since Garland's script it pretty gritty and gruesome. I reckon once the changes have been made the movie will suck a whole lot more and lose a lot of the edge it has in Garland's script.
 
We rang Microsoft to see if they'd despatched robotic ninjas with laser eyes to track down the culprits of the leak, and were met with a staunch "No Comment". When quizzed about whether Microsoft would ban the Xbox Live account of any user found to be playing Halo 3 online earlier than the launch date, the same "No Comment" answer was forthcoming.

Anticipating a big release and speculating how the game will play and what may or may not happen at the end is (a big) part of the fun.

IMO, those that withdraw from (mostly trusted) Halo fan communities such as GAF official Halo thread for the fear of seeing a spoiler -without any warning and time to react- are committing suicide because they're afraid of death.

I certainly dont. He bought it fair and square. Of course hed be an idiot to play while connected but I dont think its his problem that the game leaked early.

Wow, I'm gone for work a few hours and I miss all this hullabaloo and Brimly defcons. Glad to know GAF is psuedo-safe from the outside world.
