The Official Halo 3 Thread

Just watched the ad teaser. I definitely like where it's going.
Wish they toned down the specific armory talk a bit. Anyone know how long the full thing will be?

In this thread is the first I've heard of 4chan. Is that a good thing?

4Chan is a site where images, sometimes funny, mostly offensive are posted, gifs are animated, and pranks are pulled. These are the people that went to Harry Potter book 6 midnight releases with megaphones shouting the big spoiler at the end.

EDIT: if curious, don't go near it at work.

Don't be ridiculous.

I'm talking about when referring to him in the 3rd person, as was done in the video.

It's really simple - use it as a form of rank, instead of as a proper name. Just say a sentence with "Sergeant" replacing "Master Chief". They should both be used the same way.

Clearly "The Master Chief, mind telling me what you're doing on that ship?" is wrong.

"Sergeant, mind telling me what you're doing on that ship?" is right.

"Good to see you, Sergeant".

Etc.

However,

"When Master Chief armed his grenade, I was on the back of a Warthog..." is wrong.

You wouldn't say: "When Sergeant armed his grenade, I was on the back of a Warthog", you'd say "the Sergeant".

"We knew Master Chief was still in the fight. It gave us hope" is wrong because you wouldn't say "We knew Sergeant was still in the fight". You'd say "the Sergeant".

Who gives a fuck? Master Chief, The Master Chief, everyone would know who you were talking about, the guys a celebrity. Don't sweat the small stuff.

Oh man, even the Grunt figs look awesome.

I have to agree with this. The dialogue makes "Master Chief" sound more like a name than a title which is completely wrong.

Just reading the whole The Master Chief vs Master Chief arguement.

You have to remember one thing. Master Chief is obviously going to be someone that they would know who he was talking about. Now if he was talking about anyone but the 7 foot Spartan in green armor, then I think he would have to add some identifiers.

However Master Chief would be more then enough to identify which one he is talking about in this case considering the circumstances and where he is.

I think the ad is really evocative and it tries to be something more than the loud, angry, heavy metal blah blah blah of traditional first person shooter advertising. I think it works.

It makes the game feel larger than life - as it should.

I hope there are more like this - it gives weight to this game.

It's also in the OP. I keep that updated, and list the most recent updates at the top of the post so there's no mystery about what has been added and where to find it.

Does anyone look at that? Should I bother updating it?

Yea the ad is exactly the same as the Teaser Blim posted but not as quality. So fear not guys you have missed nothing by watching the teaser.

I think that's obvious. The marines know of him, he's legendary, which is why I don't have a problem with them just referring to him as the Master Chief instead of say.... Master Chief Spartan 117.

I think dialog and cutscenes in the game refer to him properly in the 3rd person as the Master Chief.

I think the commercial stands out in this regard and it seems out of place. Otherwise I like the commercial a lot.

I look at it every morning to catch up on the thread (important stuff)

Well, except for the "when Master Chief armed his grenade..."

That better have some additional context later in during the campaign, otherwise it's just strange. MC would be throwing tons of grenades left and right.

Btw, are they talking about the same battle as the one that appears in "Starry night"?

The veteran describes using the M-41 of an overturned warthog while the chief armed his grenade, which is kinda similar to what happens in the cg teaser.

There it goes the question again (its just sheer curiosity)

He is likely referred to as "the Master Chief" because he's the only Spartan of that rank and stature. He is an anomaly, a singularity -- Humanity's pillar of hope.

Master Chief takes down Scarab with a single grenade confirmed.

You know, I was skeptical when I read that Microsoft/Bungie was going to be doing diorama commercials, but holy shit, they really came through. I'm impressed.

I took that to mean that arming the gernade is a teaser to a much bigger moment in the story. That's how MC dies perhaps?

I just realized something. If the game only does 2 player splitscreen, which I believe is true, then LAN parties are going to be much more of a pain. That's a huge negative.

FOR CAMPAIGN ONLY

Are you serious? MP has 4-player splitscreen? I was afraid it was throughout because all the videos (even the Leipzig Games Convention ones) only showed two-player splitscreen.

That's what I'm thinking. It may be in reference to MC doing something with a grenade that turns the tide in the Earth invasion battle. I don't think it directly relates to his death per se...
