I just can't get myself to buy Monkey Island. I could maybe stand to play an adventure game in this day and age on a PC and maybe a console. On a phone, I just don't think I'll ever feel the urge to boot up a point-and-click adventure.

I wish I had bought it on the iphone. This is the perfect sort of playing in the bed before sleep type of genre and game for me.

I did the same. If it was any sort of action game I would double dip but I can't for an adventure game :(

I will buy the others if they bring them to the iphone though. I haven't played most of them since they were new games.

I knew it was coming for the iPhone too. I have no excuse. Brain fart.

They said it was coming but they were so coy I just assumed it was months off. If they had said, hey we are submitting it, I would have waited. But I figured it was a long way off.

So how does SCUMMVM on jailbroken iPhones deal with original Monkey Island's resolution?

It was 320x240 iirc and that would mean it'd be pretty small on the iPhone's 480x320 screen. Does it have better scaling algorithms in place than what the official iPhone release uses?

I think there are various options, but by default it stretches all SCUMM games to take up the whole screen.

OMG @ how amazing Dexter looks, and I don't even watch the show. Do we know what kind of gameplay this is? Is it point and click like an adventure game, interact with symbols and tapping like Star Wars or real 3D action?

edit: Didn't realize the control pad in the corner.

Fuck, I'm in disbelief. On a game blog the other day in the comments, a person was saying how the iPhone is no where near PSP graphics and people need to give up thinking it is, as if specs don't count. But damn, between games like Real Racing to Dexter...we're slowly seeing what the iPhone is capable of.

Day 1.

Monkey Island up to #17 on the games chart after 24 hours. Not a bad debut. Hopefully it has good legs.

Okay. I'm going to buy it just because I can.

Here are 6 promo codes for my game, 30 and Dirty, one of the early twin stick shooters on the iPhone, which will be taken off the store next month because I'm not renewing my license. No need to write a review or anything for the game, I am just posting these here for anyone that wants a free copy. All I ask is that you do not enter the high score contest next month. Let's give the paying customers a chance to win something.

Grabbed that one. Thanks!

The scaling only really bugged me with CoMI. But I'm not to particular about that kind of thing anyway. If you put it vertically, it displays in 320x240, but that's rediculously small and hard to read.

Also, to the people who were complaining earlier, SCUMMVM has a point and click mode, but it's impossible to actually use, since things are way too small, and (at least my) fingers are way too big. Capacitive touch screens are just way to inaccurate, since I didn't have half as many problems with the WinMo SCUMMVM, even without the stylus

:D

I just picked up Monkey Island on the iPod Touch after really liking the XBLA Demo, and I'm loving it so far. I never really played any point-and-click adventure games before, so the premise is fresh and exciting. The controls don't bother me one bit, so don't listen to the haters.

I bought a load of iPhone games but the only one that keeps me coming back for more is Drop7. I have no idea why.
Great game..

-edit: and apparently from the creators of the original chain factor... :D. Which means I have to buy it.

Not sure about the quality of the game but Doodle Stars dropped from $.99 to free. I got it because as a bonus it unlocks the emoji keyboard and those apps usually cost a dollar or two.

thanks, is the emoji keyboard usually locked? dang I never realised! it rocks. game is ok too.

gah US only, thanks anyway.

Hi guys, would anyone recommend Assasins Creed on the iphone?

I played the demo and quite liked it, just wondering what other peoples opinions on it are.

Thanks.

It still boggles my mind that Lucas Arts have become so cool. Monkey Island for iPhone = fuck yeah

Can't wait for more P&C greats (here's hoping).

Got Silent Hill and MGST from Konami's sale. Silent Hill seems to have quite a bit of of potential, but I have a feeling that the game will start getting very repetitive... but hey, for $1.19, can't complain. :D

I figured so many people were recommending Edge (NZ), I 'd ask again:

So I just bought this, and while I really enjoy the atmosphere and design (actually, I downloaded the soundtrack and that convinced me to buy it), but I'm not feeling the controls. What control schemes do people use?
I use the finger swipe method just because I like logic of it better, but the other two methods are playable just fine as well. Actually, tilt may be not be that good on some of the levels where you are required to move around quickly.

I have 828MB free and it keeps telling me I don't have enough room to download MI. I reset my phone and everything.
You most likely have that empty space fragmented, and the game (I'm just guessing this, not sure) could be needing continuous empty space chunk to install. Do a Restore. That will wipe the device clean, and then copy everything on in one big continuous piece. I'm not sure if by doing this you keep your game status saves though. You may want to ask this around first before doing a Restore.

Perhaps nowhere near is strongly worded, but it's pretty fair to say that for regular 3G device. I mean, even on 3GS, real racing moves at 30FSP, and the Dexter game from that video seems to be more like 15-20FPS, while still not looking nowehre near as good as for example Syphon Filter games on PSP. Iphone 3GS on the other hand definitely has a few aces in it's sleeve/GPU. We're staring to see games using some pixel shaders in a version optimized for 3GS of game "Blue Skies" helicopter shooter, which is something PSP never had in any game.

It's a love/hate relationship with Assassin's Creed. It's an enjoyable game until the very end where it became a little too frustrating. My main annoyance is that the controls rely too much on "auto" actions. Altair isn't always responsive, you rely on him to auto grab a ledge when in the air and sometimes he'll fall into the ledge, crash and then fall straight down which obviously isn't whats supposed to happen. Other times when running off a ledge to jump he'll insist on lowering off the corner of the ledge and hanging by his arms instead of leaping.

I had a lot of fun, and a little frustration, with AC for many hours. I can recommend it, but it's not the most amazing gaming experience on the iPhone, even for an action game. And you will be tempted to hurt your iPhone at some points.

The person did say it in reference to a 3GS. My thing is, I don't feel like developers are putting as much effort and resources into 3GS games for us to ever know. I mean, you can look at a crap Wii game or one made by Nintendo and if you had to pick what system each was on you'd end up picking too different ones.

I would love to see a big developer make a AAA game on iPhone, advertise it as such and sell it at a higher price point to see what happens. Maybe iPhone gamers wouldn't mind spending $25 on a game to play and show off if it truly had more sophisticated graphics,, and more fair comparisons could be made.

oh man. DDR S is 99c (well more like 79c) in the nz store. I'm tempted to buy it again. I have the US version because it took so long to come out here. It might be worth another purchase for the added convenience of not having to change accounts to update.

Anyway, anyone with access to the sale should try it out.

Just so no one else try's; they are all gone.

Thanks for the codes Mode, keep up the good work!

Little round up of past couple days purchases:

Racer - 59p, not bad for the price, very very simple though. But I find its these kind of games I turn to when I have a quick 2 minutes to fill, rather than start a game of Flight Control or geodefense. Its quite fun but I wouldnt miss it. Swiping finger to dodge cars is quite hard as well.

I got Pipe Mania due to the huge discount as well and it looked pretty fun. but I find it really hard and really frustrating. The first level is super basic and I can't even get a silver rating on it. Still its quite fun as long as I'm not going for high scores. Can be frustrating because it moves so fast though, and then you have to deal with 'attacks' which are infuriating. Have yet to try other modes but I can see myself losing my rag with this game.

Mobile Allowance is free for awhile and is useful for UK O2 customers, checks your usage over the past month, how many texts and minutes you've used etc.

Doodle Star as highlighted previously, game is good enough to keep you entertained for awhile and it unlocks the emoji keyboard for free. awesome.

I'm on the lookout for a good manga reader, seems Go+ Manga is the only decent one, but I'm finding the price ridiculous considering it just uses onemanga.com, has no relation to the site and has the nerve to charge that much. If it went back to 59p I'd be tempted though. You can browse ok through Safari but I want to be able to add favourites, remember position or check for updates to subscribed mangas etc.

any ideas?

Look for the Frotz interpreter app. You'll have to supply the games yourself though.

Has anyone played Lilt Line? I just got it.

f81Ba.jpg

It's a music game done differently, guide the line to not hit walls [with accelerometer] and tap the screen when you intersect the white lines. The soundtrack is pretty great and the gameplay is different and fun, just kinda hard to get used to at first. Haven't beaten it yet but people say it's short [10 levels], but with music games you can play them a lot without getting sick of them and plus you'll want to get the best score on every level so for $2.99 I think it's worth it.

I have more fun with Mevo, but it's a nice departure from things like Tap Tap Revenge/Tap Star/Dance Dance Rev/Beat Rider's style.

that doesn't look like it's worth $3, i'll wait for inevitable 99c sale.

And on that note, FUCK Konami for not giving the US that awesome sale they're having on their games.

What the hell! Flight of Amazon Queen was ported on iphone last month, and I had no idea. Stoney, you're slipping!

It's a really nice adventure game in vein of LucasArts classics, with a pulpy story that reminds me of Uncharted a bit. Here's some screenshots from SCUMMVM emulator:

Funnily enough, this game too uses the same trackpad movement for cursor, just like MI. They even did a really good job of upscaling the graphics from 320x240, as you can see from the app store screens.

Not really, it gives you access to the entire IF database, which has pretty much everything. Now I just need a Glulx interpreter :\

Well, except for the commercial games of lore. But yeah, there's tons of quality (and free!) IF out there.
