It's not an error at all, that's how it's designed. It even warns you that if you uncheck an app, that app will get deleted from your phone. Since app saves are part of the app, and the way it's setup iTunes has no idea what is the saved data and what is the app, they get deleted too. Backing up your phone is a totally separate process - that backs up the entire thing. If you restored your backup, it would restore your iPhone to the state it was when you backed it up - that would get you your saves back, but you'd lose anything else you did on the phone since then. Unless of course you backed up since then, then your backup wouldn't have the apps no more.

I know that it warned me, but like I said... I assumed the backup process included any data associated with the app. In this instance, restoring from a backup image really isn't useful. I assumed the backup replaced the existing app on my computer with the updated one on my phone that has a save in it. It should be that way, but unfortunately it's not. One more sign that Apple really didn't think this through as a gaming platform.

Everybody buy FieldRunners now. Awesome Tower Defense game with ace iPhone controls. It's £2.99.
Damn, just what the iPhone needed. Been wanting one since games first appeared, and glad it looks like a good one, with updates coming.

Wasn't there a dev on here that said he was making a TD game as well? Perhaps this one?

Yeah, it needs a stricter wave mode, but I'm sure they're working on updates. The interface is perfect and I love the zoomable graphics.

Hey guys, Aqua Forest is free today only (for TGS), go go go! http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=281893011&mt=8

So is Catch the Egg, but from the sounds of things, that game is shit.

Nice!

Yeah it has a really nice cartoony look. Hopefully I can lay down some fat scores on Fri.

Wow, Sim City looks incredible.

Question for anybody with Field Runners... the video I watched on youtube showed the level as an open plain and the person playing ended up constructing walls of towers to set them on a path. Is every level that way or is it like Pixeljunk Monsters where there is a set path the enemies will walk down (ie, trees setting a path) and you have work within those constraints?

There's only one "level"/map, unless I'm hugely missing something. It's an open plain. You try to set up your towers such that the enemies will have to maze through them and get fired at again and again so that they die before they can make it all the way through.

The app page says that an update will include new maps though, among other things such as sound.

5/5, would buy again. I've played it several hours since buying it yesterday.

We haven't released yet. The game is done, but we're waiting on LLC formation to submit to the app store. In the meantime, it's giving me some time to go back and rework the menus and upgrade system. Website will be http://touchdefense.com but it will remain a splash page until we get approved.

Fieldrunners looks great, although I'm holding out on playing until we launch ours. From what I've read, we're offering a bit more structure than they are (we have 5 maps with set creep paths for 1.0) so I don't see any reason why we can't have a few Tower Defense games to go around. :)

We're two guys with day jobs, so we're just having fun. My next project (if I can get it engineered correctly) will be huge, I think.

Did John have a review copy?
http://www.whattheyplay.com/blog/2008/10/3/realtime-audio-adventures-for-iphone/

Realtime Associates, a game studio that has been around for more than 15 years, producing a wide variety of games, from the Beavis and Butthead title on Super Nintendo, to the cancer-awareness PC game Re-Mission for Hopelab, will be unveiling a "new kind of game" for the iPhone and iPod Touch next week.

Haven't heard anything other than that.

South Park Imaginationland had a price drop down to 2.99 (7$ drop). worth it?

Also Diner Dash is down to 4.99 and Spore Origins is 7.99

I like Bloom and newtonica a lot but they may not be everyone's cup of tea. Bloom is a must for Brian Eno fans, though. Might give Fieldrunners a try later. But I just got the two decent Hudson freebies so trying them out too (steered well clear of Catch the Egg!).

Fieldrunners looks amazing, going to check it out when i get home. PotatoeMasher i'll still be looking out for your game as well becuase i love TD. I wish the guys that made Vector Tower Defence X would bring that to the iPhone as well.

LOL i really will buy any half decent TD game.

A couple of friends of mine put together a game that so far has been pretty well received, but I didn't want to pimp it here until the trial version was ready. It's called Surface to Air Mayhem and the best way to describe it would be a modernized remix of the Missile Command mechanics. Here's the link to the free trial:

http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=293066772&mt=8

And here's the full version at $2.99:

For more info and screenshots, head over here:

If anybody gives it a shot and wants to supply some feedback, I'll make sure the devs see it. They're pretty happy with the game, and I felt it was worth pointing out to my fellow iPhone NeoGAF peers, so enjoy.

The best games on iphone are:

Tic Tac Toe
Paper football
and Air hockey

I've already spent as much time playing Tic Tac Toe vs my girlfriend as I have all 3 of those games I got from Hudson combined.

I'm flying out to LA tomorrow and want an rpg to play on the plane. Don't particularly feel like bringing my ds, are there any good ones for download on my touch? I was thinking vay but I hear it is sort of garbage.

Skip Vay. Navigating around using the touchscreen gets old very quick and the game itself isn't very interesting.

I'm sorry if it's been asked a gajillion times, but that's the game they show on the iPod Touch commercial? It looks like Guitar Hero?
