Are there any good turn based tower defence games? Eg like tapdefense which pauses after each wave to let you take a breath/plan. Only problem is I don't really like tap defense - so something more like geodefense or fieldrunners which are my two favourite TD games on iPod

Defender Chronicles, 7 cities, and The Creeps all allow you to pause and build at any time, a feature I always appreciate. I like to take my time and plot out the strategy.

Of those three, buy Defender Chronicles. Like I said above, it's the best TD on the platform, period.

Any games similar to "Sword of Fargoal"
Man I got the game after I read a few reviews and it really delivers :) I LOVE it. Any similar games to it on PC perhaps? But please I need it to be simple like Fargoal is :)

You're in for a treat, sir. Google "roguelikes" and you'll find more games like Sword of Fargoal than you'll know what to do with.

Any must-haves? Got an iPhone for Christmas.

I've tried out geoDefense, and it seems really fun (the non-swarm version). Didn't get too attached to Hook Champ or I Dig It.

Couldn't try out Doodle Jump or Jet Car Stunts, no demos. Is Jet Car Stunts similar to TrackMania? If so, I didn't enjoy that too much.

Got Tap Tap Revenge 3 for free, it's OK.

i'd say Drop7 is still the only completely, absolutely must-have game (as much as i love many other games). Eliss and Canabalt are probably next in priority.

Just buy doodle jump. It's the perfect kill a minute or two well waiting game

Hey guys, I jailbroke my iPod 2G, I like it but I don't see much use other than making Springboard look pretty and emulators.

Anything essential I can do with it before I decide to restore back to a clean iPod?

Prompted me to try out Ellis light. Really cool stuff. I night buy the full version.

Drop 7 looks good but I guess I don't see what makes it so much better than any other puzzle game.

Canabalt I remember trying on my computer (the flash version). Was really cool but does the iPhone version offer more than what's available for free online?? Seemed like the kind of game you continuously play from the beginning and try to get as many points as possible with randomly generated levels. Like that helecopter game that owned my life for one month.

I got an Ipod touch 16GB with a 25$ giftcard for christmas. I'm interested in rpgs and I'm also open to anything else. What do you guys recommend? How is Rolando 1&2?

Get SBSettings and you'll never want to go back. It puts a lot if things I turn on and off at a slide away. Brightness, Bluetooth, ssh, and ip info, process info too with a free memory option.

I use that and the terminal everyday at work. You may not need the ssh option but everything else is too great to go back to standard OS for.

Check out some stuff on cydia too, love overboard...and 3g unrestrictor.

I don't know if it's any good or not but Seed 1 - Rise of Darkness is on sale for free right now.

Edit: Ah, I stand corrected. Never mind then. Looking at some of the impressions, it seems like you gotta pay for additional items in the game in order to get the most of out of it.

Its not a sale. They went on the fremium program with it

(And playing it its not very good, its very Zenonia ish). For the most part ive been disapointed with rpgs on the iphone

Just a quick question, hopefully someone can answer it. From my understanding, the iPhone 3G is slightly less powerful than the 3GS and doesn't run apps just as well, right? Well, how does the current iPod Touch run apps and games? I can't really justify spending the money for a 3GS but a new Touch might be better.

The 3GS price should be less than a current Touch...unless you're buying it outright? The subsidization from the cell phone company makes it very cheap. And you'll be paying for cell service anyway?

But the newest Touches are like the 3GS and are the third generation of touches. They're faster than their previous iteration, not sure if the 16gb is a 3rd generation though? But I'm sure hte 32 and 64 are.

What sort of RPGs? Undercroft is great for first person, old school vibe. Dungeon Hunter is a solid Diablo clone. The offerings imitating JRPGs though have been weak so far.

Simpsons Arcade pushed me over the top. I joined the ipod touch family and picked up a 32gb touch yesterday. A bunch of other games I bought over the summer I can finally play. :lol

Ironically of all the games I was hooked on today was pac man CE itouch. I have it on 360 but I prefer it on the touch. I have to admit I am still getting used to the touch controls for all games. Feels weird using a touch pad for movement and hitting buttons, but it is something I've never done before so I'm guessing it is all about adjusting.

Didn't someone on GAF make Taxiball? I grabbed that a couple months ago and finally got to play it today. Fun little product.

Depends which touch you're referring to, and 3G is much less powerful than the 3GS. The 8GB $199 second gen iPod touch is basically a faster version of the 3G hardware (minus camera/GPS/mic/cell radio), 533mhz w/133mhz bus on the touch vs 400/100 on the 3G. The 32/64GB 3rd gen touches ($299/399) use the 3GS hardware which is a generational leap both CPU and GPU wise and has more RAM which also makes a big difference. If you can get the subsidized 3GS it'll be the cheapest new hardware option at $199 (for 16GB).

In visual form going slowest to fastest:
3G--------iPod touch 2nd gen-----------------3GS/iPod touch 3rd gen

...of course a new iPhone will likely be out next summer if you care about the latest and greatest.

yeah simpsons is pretty nice for what it is. played it for like two hours on the plane yesterday. graphics are really great and the sound they do have is pretty good too. only wish they had more audio clips and at least a few video clips in between levels or something.

ending question (spoiler i guess):
when i beat burns, homer just got his donut and that was it, there weren't even any credits and it just went back to the title screen where it starts with "continue game." 99% sure i didn't quit out but that seemed kinda weird

Thanks! Hope you're playing it with the sound on. :D I hope we can get back to it and add more features to the game - we'd had a whole slew of things we wanted to do, but it never sold anywhere near enough, and we had to move on to something new. If we get to a point where we're able to go back and give it some love, though, we definitely will.

Cheers!

Get Rolando 1. It's good stuff. Worth $3. Just don't think of it as a Mario/Sonic platformer. It's a different animal. It's one of the first major iPhone games that proved the concept could work beyond Bejeweled and word puzzles.

The worst part about the iPhone and owning so many games is how long it takes to sync in iTunes...

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu...
I've noticed y syn taking al lot longer than it used to as well. It takes ages just to decide what to backup. It used to be maybe 30seconds at most, but now takes 3-5 minutes.

And the progress bar doesn't seem to be that informative for installing apps.

I remember they released a couple of performance updates for 2.0, but they don't seem to have done anything like that for 3. Only updates seem to have been for bugs. :(

Is the Ridge Racer any good?

Also, is there such a thing as an ipod case that's solid (not that gel sock stuff) that has an open front? That isn't like $50?

Woah! Space Invaders Inf G got updated to 2.0 with openfeint, new levels, and a music stage rating system... Awesome!

On top if that Hi, how are You? Got Openfeint support as well.

Also a big update to hook champ!

Good update day ^_^

Also, there's an update to iBlast Moki which adds new levels and improves the level editor.

Oh, and apparently OpenFeint itself has been updated, so it looks like there'll be more updates for OF-integrated games in the near future.

any way to actually delete games from your open feint list? there's a few that i'm not going to play again on there.

Damn. The new added stages in Space Inv IG are hard as fuck. The 2.0 versions of the bosses are a bitch.

Also the new music rating system is nicely integrated.

Is anyone else having sound problems with Space Invaders? I don't have any sound at all when I play. I know I have the volume turned all the way up and I get nothing.

So an update for Space Invaders Infinity Gene!

2.0 has OpenFeint integration (achievements), new levels (I've unlocked another 6 so far, but probably more), and 'improved' music mode (as far as I can tell you now get a title and artist as you start, and you can rate them and send recommendations).

Also, was there always a 'hard' setting? I looked and that's what it was already on...is hard the default? No wonder it's tough as nails. And I can't finish the first new level.

edit: Obviously, I am slow. I came in and did a 'find' for 'infinity'. No hits, so I posted. Damn, you all abbreviated it. :lol

Wow, it's very interesting to see a big publisher game like Space Invaders Infinity Gene get OpenFeint support, especially a Japanese publisher.

I noticed that Field Runners has OpenFeint support now too.

OpenFeint does seem to have 'stuck' as the most popular choice for score integration. I don't have anyone on my friends list though, and I know loads of people with iPhones.

The UFO cluster bomber is also useful for those same reasons but it appears its turning speed is its fault. Tried with that for a while and it didn't work out so well. Singularity I believe its called, last row.

Man, I want a MiniSquadron 2. I can imagine the possibilities with a larger budget so to speak with the game.
Seriously, the game is just great. Even with a suboptimal control scheme it plays really well (probably the best virtual joystick game). It's one of those where you're just dying for more content even with the tons they already fit in. Online play for example. *drool*

Anyone got good scoring strategies for Mini Squadron? Trying to get all the planes but I'm not even sure I know how scoring works. From what I can tell, if you blow up a plane you have a certain amount of time (not sure how much) to blow up another to get a multiplier going or keep it going. Also gray stars give you points. Not really sure about anything else.

I think the multiplier just goes up if you don't get hit. 1x for every plane destroyed in succession without getting hit yourself. Personally, for unlocking planes, I'm ignoring the multiplier and going for the bonus points you get for destroying a plane rather than let it crash.

Termnator salvation is totally tucked. I bought it cause it was 99 cents but once you get to the motorcycle riding part it's fuckin impossible to proceed. Such bullshit!
