Termnator salvation is totally tucked. I bought it cause it was 99 cents but once you get to the motorcycle riding part it's fuckin impossible to proceed. Such bullshit!

Uh..

not only is Terminator Salvation fucking awesome, but I beat that part on the first shot.

Which Pac-man version is the better version? The standard 4.99 one or the 2.99 CE one?
Oh my, the championship edition is awesome, and I don't normally like pacman. Did you miss the 99c sale?

Note that it's not the full version. You'll have to pay like $4 as dlc for the complete game.

Pac man ce is great been playing it tons last few days. It crashes all the time on start up though. like i may have to try 7 or 8 times before it doesnt crash so thats lame but i like it.

At least based on the Xbox 360 version, CE is the true modern PacMan sequel, it's definitely the one to get. It takes PacMan's classic gameplay and makes it feel like a modern game. And makes it fun to try for a high score without making you play for hours.

Doesn't the base version at least come with the main game, the normal 5 minute mode from the Xbox 360 version? None of the reviews really explain how these modes are like the Xbox 360. If so, then that's all I ever really play, I don't need more.

It's not good at dumping memory. A good way to clear it is to go to safari and close ALL open tabs. IF you do that and quit out of safari, it actually quits the safari process. Then run Pacnman CE.

Ah okay, that makes sense. Thanks I'll give both strategies a shot.
I think mrkgoo suggested it earlier but once you unlock the Sniper plane you can pretty much unlock the rest with it. I managed to unlock all 56 and I'm dying for more Mini Squadron.

Also, any new free game recommendations would be cool, if anyone's got anything they've been playing recently.

It just got updated with Open Feint. I'm ok with that, although I don't care all that much, however, it sticks the OF logo over the device icon. Down with the OF logo!

Dark Harvest, Piyo Blocks, Space Deadbeef, Enso-dot, Orba, Sentinel, and Little Runner are all free, and all worth trying.

How do you beat it? All I can do is steer and shoot straight ahead. I always get killed before reaching the end because they shoot me from angles I can shoot them from!!1!. Argh!!

In the iPhone version of CE there are three modes:

Mission: A series of small challenges, initially aimed at getting you to try different control methods and learning the game basics, advancing to slightly tougher challenges designed to get you to understand all the different map layouts and paths. Basically stuff like, eat 2 fruit, eat 4 ghosts, eat 16 ghosts consecutively, get 160,000 points etc. all to a time limit. Bronze, silver, gold awards for each. Iniitially, I think 20 missions, with another 80 available in the DLC pack.

Championship: a 5 minuted mode for points (and bronze, silver, gold awards available depending on score). There are 5 maps, with another 10 available with DLC, I believe.

Challenge: As far as I can tell, it's very similar to the Chanmpionship mode, but 3 minutes long. Maybe the ghosts are faster. Only available with DLC, 15 courses.

Blockoban is free on the Appstore, and there are 800 extra levels as DLC

Would you rather have the DLC for free? 1000 promo codes!

Codes work in the UK too, and it's a really cool little (massive) Sokoban kinda puzzle game.
Thank you kind Sir - looks like a neat game

Just picked up Doodle Jump on impulse for a buck. Proceeded to play it for the past hour with determination. Already got my moneys worth.

It's obviously a popular game but I never see it mentioned here much.

I been playing seed as it went free but stopped about 2 hours in and not played it for a while over christmas, went back to it last night for about an hour and I think now that I will stop, the writing in this game is TERRIBLE, I can't stomach it any more it's so bad, not the story but just how they speak is like a 12 year old writing his first adventure story at school. I feel sorry for people who brought it for £3.99 or whatever it was at first.

So I think I'm going to cave and get an ipod touch 32gb or 64gb. I can't decide whether the additional $100 is worth it for the extra 32gb of storage space on the 64. I would use it mostly for gaming and music/podcasts, probably not much for movies at all. Am I likely to run out of space on the 32gb?

I have a 16gb iPhone. I never think about space and have never come close to running out.

Funny how the iPod has evolved to a point we're I barely listen to music on it anymore.

I have an 8GB Ipod Touch with

40 applications
about 120 songs
2 seasons of LOST
600 pictures
a crapload of Podcasts

and still have 1GB free

I have a 16gb Iphone too - but I have 12gb of music and 1gb of apps on it - I struggle for the space for any video podcasts or new games and really wish I'd gone with the 32gb when I had the chance

I guess it comes down to personal needs, I can never fathom needing to carry 1000's of tunes on me at any given time :D

Sadly listening to music is my least used feature on the Ipod

i'm looking forward to the time when they can get the storage big enough for the ipod to serve as a true video library. feels a ways away though. i have a 64gb, like 35 episodes of the office (hd, granted) and a bunch of other random assorted videos, but i really don't want to throw a single new season of anything on there as it will make me uncomfortably close to my limit

relatedly, does anyone know on the touch/phone how to view videos organized by season? when i go into videos it lists the office and then when i go into that it's just a complete jumble of episodes. my old ipod used to do this right but for some reason i can't get it sorted on the touch

I just picked up a 32gb on Boxing day and dumped most of my library onto it (about 1,500 songs - says it is 4.6 days worth of music) and then purchased about 1gb of apps and downloaded a number of podcasts. I still have half my storage space left for movies and shows when I travel. In my case I don't think the additional space is worth the 33% increase in price.

It's mentioned every now and then (use the Search this thread at the bottom of the page to see). I've mentioned it a few times too... it is a perfect game to just pull out and play when you are waiting at the doctors office or something. Fun and great simple controls.

I have only played a few tunes ever on my 8gig touch, brought it for gaming and it's the main reason why I still keep it around.

I did watch an episode of top gear on it but that was just trying out a free ep, I can easily use tv on demand or iPlayer for most shows I miss.

For those of you waiting for Plants vs Zombies, it has been pushed back to late January. I say pushed back because PopCap said it would land in December not that long ago.

Have you gone into your video file information in iTunes and set type as 'TV Show' with Season and Episode number? I think that's what I used to do. . .

Um...why are you watching HD episodes on your phone? The screen is so small, you're wasting your time with it's size. Go for SD, or buy the bluray and rip it yourself to a custom size of the iphones screen.

Do you watch blu ray movies on a 13 inch black and white tv as well?

SD.

The storage size has doubled every year since the Touch has been on the market, so presumably a 128GB version will come out next fall.

From the other thread, courtesy of Charred Greyface, I downloaded and ran App Store Expense Monitor for Mac OS X. It scans your mobile applications folder and then connects online to check the pricing and lists the price of all your apps (current price).

I've spent:
NZ$398.82 (current exchange = US$286.45)
US$23.94

O_O

I wish I hadn't done that.

Adjusted for games I got for free or on special (or for that matter, games I paid more for, i.e. REal Racing, 7 Cities, and Monkey island - these are my biggest shames, as I haven't even played them- I paid $6.49 for Wolfenstein RPG and hated it, but at least I finished it).

NZ$273.56 (US$196.21)
US$16.97

Saving 30% or so is not too bad.

A cool feature of this App Store Expense program is that you can double-click an app and it will take you to the appstore - I wish iTunes had that instead of searching.

Really wish you hadn't posted that....holy sh...I've spent over 400 dollars on the app store? When did this happen?

An SD 30-minute show shouldn't be any larger than 200mb. I don't buy vids on the itunes store though so I'm not sure what they're doing. But when you rip it yourself with handbreak with the right options...very small. I actually don't watch anything on my phone but a guy from work usually has his computer working on something. Ripping his dvd's for the vacation he just took for example...it's about 280 mb per hour

iTunes HD comes with an as version for your portable devices. It's pretty slick - completely transparent so you don't even really know.

280 MB is pretty small for a 1 hour show, but it depends on what encoding quality and what you find acceptable. As from iTunes are about 500MB for the forty minute Los recaps.

I think you guys should buy the DVDs and get Amy of the software that let's you rip it in single clicks...you cam save slot of space doing that yourself. Come next Monday ill find out what settings my friend at work uses if you like. The video quality is is acceptable to me.

Yes, acceptable to you. Actually probably acceptable to me too.

I use Handbrake for ripping DVDs and typically rip to the old iPhone spec, which was constant 1000kbps (I know, it's probably overkill - looks damn nice though, and even scales up to a full screen to a watchable standard).

Can save a lot of space, but really, a few GB at the moment is not a problem.

Also, Rips from a DVD have often not looked as good as a proper transfer from the source. You're encoding it twice essentially.

Also, I move a lot, and am trying to dispense with physical media whenever I can. It's a waste.

Started playing Nimblebit's Textropolis. I DL'd it when it went free (it's back up to $2) and it sat on my phone for quite a long time untouched (my first impression "I don't get it") Recently I loaded it up to check out the UI and totally got sucked in for a good few hours. Every now and then I will load it up just to see "if I can find a couple more words!"

Definitely recommended and worth the asking price!

So, the other day i switched from a 2G iPod Touch 8 Gb. to a 3G Touch with 32 Gb. As far as i know, the 3G touch has a more powerful processor and that some games look better. Is that right? For example: I already had NFS:Shift on the old iPod and played it on the new one but i didn't see any change in graphics quality. Do i have to download it again?

If what you got was a third-gen iPod Touch, the system is MUCH faster than the older ones. But calling it a 3G touch doesn't really tell us much, because some (weird) people call the second-gen iPod Touch the 3G Touch, because it's the same technology as the iPhone 3G (but a little faster).

Anyways, older games often ran at a slower framerate, or got slowdown at some parts - the third-gen iPod Touch runs so much faster that the problem tends to go away on that system. The system is also capable of much better graphics with cool effects, but a game has to be written specifically for it to do that, which very few are. Luckily, NFS:Shift does support it, supposedly that adds "better textures, more effects", though I can't find any mention of how much better that makes the game look - it could just be a subtle thing. And the game should auto-detect the system so the same version should just get those effects.

weird.

Any games similar to Settlers? My brother loved that game and now wonders if there is anything else similar on the iPhone. I think he enjoys building his own town rather than empire but still I recommended him Civ Rev

Any other games perhaps?

Just talked to him on the phone and he said building empire is also ok :) , he mentioned that he would love something similar to Age of Empires as well.
Will ask him to check simcity
