Tomena Sanner is pretty awesome. I tried this other game called NHK that's a music game with 8-bit looking graphics, but I can't decide if I like it or not just yet.

There's an MMO called Anrufen Online that's free on the store ATM, no idea what it's about or if it's any good. Graphics look nice, though.

Are there any decent platformers to grab? I was checking out videos of Assassin's Creed, and that looked really good.

Assassin's Creed is supposed to be out (again) in a week. Rolando (and Rolando 2) could probably be considered a platformer, that one's great. Canabalt makes it as simple as possible - all you control are jumps, but that one's quite fun (and challenging).

We need a huge "best of" post with the top games for each genre, it seems like a lot of questions are recurring in here like "what's the best racing game" etc. I don't know enough of the games to do it myself, but I'm sure someone here does.

I totally agree.

I agree with you, oh Hentai King.

There's a lot of people in here with "dancing people in skeleton outfits" avatars. it's more than a little unsettling.

My partner and I are in the final lap of coding/aesthetic polish for our new game. Very excited to submit to Apple at the end of the week. Hoping gaf will like. You guys are the pickiest group of SOB's in history but "if I can make it here, I'll make it anywhere..." Anyway I am tired of showing it off to random drunk folks at bars for testing, can't wait to get some serious gamers' opinions.

I have to agree on the AI though. I was doing great until I hit a wall around level 8 or 9? The AI was relentless as soon as it found the right "coordinates" and just hammered me.

Thanks for the feedback, and glad you like it!

I've had feedback now from a fair number of people: of the people that have an opinion about the difficulty, most say it's too hard (while only a handful have said it's too easy).

I'm therefore rebalancing the AI to make the difficulty curve less steep. It's still going to have the near-impossible levels at the end, but the journey will be easier.

Working on it right now in fact: my CPU is running at 97 degrees C. :o

To everyone saying "I agree I want a list", it exists and was already posted on this page!

Sorry if this has been asked, but what's the best racing game? I'm looking for something with quite a satisfying career mode, looks great and plays well.

The first Need For Speed...not Shift, I think it's called Underground or something like that. It was a ton of fun and had a good career mode. Everyone will have a different answer, though.

That's 6 months old, there's been a lot out since then.

Oh, didn't realize that. I suppose it is time then.

Assassin's Creed was a port of the DS game, it was pretty good. It was made to be played with a dpad but controls on iPhone with the touch analog disc, so it could be a little annoying to control at times. While I didn't beat it, I put a few hours in and had fun with it.

I'd recommend Castle of Magic, Spybot Chronicles or Bionic Surfer for platformers. Soosiz is pretty good too, it's a little like Super Mario Galaxy (in that it plays like an original 2D Mario, but has small, circle platforms).

I haven't come across any good 3D Assassin's Creed type "AAA" platformers (unlike NOVA for FPS or NFS for racer). There's been good 3D action games, but other than Castle of Magic and Assassin's Creed, I haven't found much there.

Our iPhone label, PikPok, just released another title in the Flick Kick series - Flick Kick Field Goal. This is personally my favourite of the 3 Flick Kick games so far (not sure why given they are all fairly similar).

Jos is currently pretty busy on a business course this week, but will likely drop a download code or two for it on GAF and/or the PikPokGames Twitter feed over the next couple of weeks. Chances are we will do a price special leading up to the SuperBowl, so keep an eye out for that if you have a 99c or bust policy (it is currently $1.99).

I went ahead and bought Necromancer Rising and have put a couple hours into it. The game is, without a doubt, awesome. The issues mentioned in the iTunes reviews are certainly there - rare loot drops, not a lot of gold drops, damn hard - but if you're into old school dungeon crawlers ala ultima underworld it's $5 well spent.

The game is currently on sale for $5 from $7.

Just got an iPhone along with the iPod touch (which now goes to the wife/daughter) :D

Can anyone recommend some spouse-friendly local multiplayer games? We currently have Trivial Pursuit, Flight Control & Rock Band.

Cheers!

If you like board games, I highly recommend Hive and Ingenious. The former is even on sale right now for 99c, from $3.99.

I'm really temped, but how are the controls? All the vids out there on it are kind of old, and I can't really get a feel for the game from them. Or I should say how Ultima Underworld is it since that's what I'm hoping for.

The game is slow paced enough that the controls aren't that big of a deal, but they're similar to those in Wolfenstein 3D. I'm not sure how old the vids could be since it just came out a couple days ago or something.

As for comparisons with Ultima Underworld, I wouldn't exactly say they have the same mechanics, but they're certainly similar in intent in that it's a real time first person dungeon crawler with relatively complex combat. The way the game is structured, you have a hub area with a store for regular gear, a store for microtransaction purchases, and a monk who gives you quests for the dungeon. The dungeon is 50 levels split between ten portals, every five levels you unlock another portal to go through. Unless I'm really missing something there is no map, so you have to manually keep track of where you are.

Some gameplay footage.

Edit: Seems to be out in the UK, too. £3.99.
Enjoyed this on PSP and iPhone ScummVM already, but nice to see an upgraded native version out for me to finally finish this.

Any big differences between this and Flick Rugby (which I've bought).

Also, meant to say to dock that I bougth TumbleDrop the first day you posted it here and have to say I do like it alot, especially when I saw that you can get achievements for two different methods of completing the level (being a little sad once I'd finished the hard difficulty)

Apart from the physics sometimes being a little hit and miss (by that I mean the same thing won't happen each time i perform the same move), I really really like the game. I love the little facial expressions of the Star either in horror as it falls to its watery doom or the smile when it lands.
Congrats!!!

Doodle Jump is shocking?
I'm guessing sarcasm?

Or maybe it's because Doodle Jump is a grossly overrated game?

I really liked the Nicky Boom port and wished at the time I played it that Castle of Magic aped its control scheme. Not sure how it holds up now though.

Plants vs Zombies got pushed back AGAIN from a late Jan release to a "mid Feb" release :(

Grunle. This game is the reason that, when I see this thread has been posted in, I get excited. I will buy this game again quicker than you can say 'It's up'.

Thanks for picking up Flick Kick Rugby.

The differences between that and Flick Kick Field Goal are mainly cosmetic (graphics, menus, music, loading screen quotes) with some minor adjustments to wind effects, as opposed to Flick Kick Aussie Rules which has both different kicking and scoring mechanics. Unless you have a specific hankering for American Football, you are probably fine with just Rugby.

What you're meant to say is "Flick Kick American Football is twice the game FK Rugby is. Buy it, tell your friends, shout it from the rooftops..." :D

+1 on Doodle Jump being overrated.
+1 on :( @ PvZ being delayed. Played through the single player portion only on PC and honestly, it is such a well crafted game it is astounding. None of my friends believed me until they played it and got hooked.

Trundle (free, seems alright)

Air Hockey (free today)

GuerillaBob ($3)

Guerrilla Bob may be what Minigore was supposed to be all along. Trundle reminds me of some XNA game that some people liked. Air Hockey probably sucks, has Open Feint and is free for today only. Check em.

I'm really not a big fan of Guerilla Bob, mostly because the controls just don't feel right, a big problem when the entire concept involves dodging cheesing looking red bullets. The problem is that the controls are 'digital' instead of 'analog' making precise or gradual movements difficult, something that was never a problem in Minigore.

Overall, it kinda reminds me of a mediocre N64 game or something.

Quick update on Bird Strike

- just went on sale for 99c (normally $1.99) until the end of this week

- dev team is close to finishing the requested Endless Mode, as well as adding some new props and pickups. We should be submitting that next Tuesday, so if Apple keeps up their quick turnarounds on approvals that build should be live before the end of next week

Awesome. It's easily one of the most entertaining games on the iPhone; Endless mode might just end up ruining me.

So I've got an Android phone (HTC Hero) instead of an iPhone and I quite like it. Lots of great free games and Apps in the Store and new stuff on a daily basis.

Is there an Android Gaming thread on GAF?

Does it offer much more than Doodle Jump? I'm not sure I really need more than one game in that genre so convince me!

I'm here to inform, not sell :)

Product info is available here http://www.pikpokgames.com/birdstrike/

If you already have Doodle Jump, I'd suggest waiting until next week when the Endless Mode is in and hopefully somebody can offer some impressions and a comparison (though the price special will be over by then).

I think that it already offers a great deal more, actually. The challenges that exist at the moment feel more like puzzles, sometimes, and there's a real reliance on memory as well to get the highest scores. Doodle Jump is far more mindless than Bird Strike, and, whilst it's an easy comparison for people to make between the two - they both exist as part of the 'Vertical Progression' Genre, it's actually pretty sloppy. Doodle Jump is pretty good fun; Bird Strike is a much, much better game.

One of the best iDevice games I've played in some time.

Hey, Mario you know what would be super awesome on this platform? Shatter. Tilt to control, breathe with on-screen buttons.

Apart from a few rare threads asking about upcoming Android games, not yet.

I just brought bird strike, was going to wait until I have more app's finished up but the sale made me buy it today :D

I'm asking for donations in order to help me raise money for the trip to GDC/IGF in San Francisco, and I'm going to give credit to donations of $10 or more in the next update for the iPhone game.

I've also lowered the price of Tumbledrop to 50% until I can afford the trip. Please help if you can! :) I don't think the discount is showing up in the UK store yet though - is it in the US store?
