Next thing you know they're gonna release a Klonoa 'game'-- one which is simply a music player that inserts "wahoo" or "dupu-rudu" into your songs every few seconds.
Well, you have to realize, the PS3 version is the same way - there is no real "game" behind it, all you are really doing is stretching your BOY around, trying to get him as long as possible. It's more like an interactive toy than a game. Sounds like the iPhone version actually has *more* stuff to do, since it can use the camera and GPS in its stretching.Shaneus said:The WTF is the release being a non-game rather than a game. I agree, no more fractions. But the idea of a score isn't really to say how good it is, but more "how much of a must-have it is."Aaron said:It's a nice idea, but I don't see any reason to include less than stellar games, since there are just too damn many on the iphone, and get rid of the fractions. Heck, get rid of the scores all together, sticking with something like 'great' and 'must have' or 'fun' and 'OMFG.'
I don't think you should go all Game Informer on this list. Don't make assumptions on what people like and dislike, but say what sort of game it is, and say how good it is for that sort of game. I'm not a huge fan of Peggle myself. I like Civ a whole lot more, though the iphone version does have some minor issues so I wouldn't argue with the score.Dacvak said:I agree, no more fractions. The whole idea of the list to have a comprehensive collection of games that are all worth owning, which so far, they all are. But since some people might not be into Civilization as much as others, it's rating is only a 3. Whereas, everyone on earth enjoys Peggle, so that's a bit higher.
Love it. I'll edit that in.Aaron said:I don't think you should go all Game Informer on this list. I just think this list should be as easy and accessible as possible. Putting poor games and slapping on scores are two roadblocks to that.
Edit: Thought of two other metrics to use, 'demo it' and 'buy it.' If you insist on covering meh games, then add 'ignore it.'
I'm dragging this out too much, but I think most of those tunes scores are bullshit. Sometimes they're complaining about a problem and give harsh scores to something that's completely fixed in the current version. I bought the Kings after reading pages of complaints that were fixed over a month ago. Also, if there's an iffy game that you feel needs a demo to justify a purchase and doesn't have one, the developer doesn't deserve the sale. This might sound harsh, but either make a demo or make a better game. There are plenty of games I'd say straight up buy that have demos.Dacvak said:Love it. I'll edit that in.
Edit: Actually, what if there is no demo for the game? I agree that this numbered system is flawed, because already most people are just putting 4's and 5's down.
Fuck it. I'll just make it the iTunes current score.
The iTunes scores aren't the best, agreed, but at least it's something to go by that's not just one person's personal opinion. By now, most of us have learned to take those scores with a grain of salt, anyway.Aaron said:I'm dragging this out too much, but I think most of those tunes scores are bullshit. Then they're worthless. People can look up those scores and reviews easily when they consider buying the game anyway. If you don't want to include someone's personal opinion, which I thought was the whole point of this list, then have no score at all. Because if I recommend something that I know is really good but got three stars due to a glut of six month old reviews for problems that don't even exist anymore, no one is going to look at it.Dacvak said:The iTunes scores aren't the best, agreed, but at least it's something to go by that's not just one person's personal opinion. ...so how about a wiki?Dacvak said:Ideally, this will become a wiki-style list that we're able to reference whenever anyone needs a good suggestion for an iPhone title.
This. If the point of the list is to have the best of the best iPhone games then a score should be irrelevant, everything on it is essential.Aaron said:Then they're worthless. To skip GTACW's cutscenes, press and hold somewhere on the screen while the cutscene is playing.RPS37 said:My most recent purchases are Space Miner and GTA. I'm almost to the 7 hour mark on Space Miner and I feel like I'm close to done, but not until i 100% the entire board. Everything is really well done. It took me probably 3 or 4 hours till I realized that the levels/backgrounds had such good variety. I'm also super pumped about my levelled up ship.
However, Ive only played about an hour of GTA. I consider myself a pretty hardcore iPhone gamer, so I was waiting for the iPhone version. Am I missing anything if I just want to skip through all the cutscene crap? When I pick it up, I have no patience to sit and watch them at all. I did finally get through the first few missions the last time I played it and I dug it though.
I dunno. I couldn't pass up the 3 dollar off sale and I knew I was getting toward the end of Space Miner and I wanted something meaty.
Productivity at work, reading the news:Peronthious said:Yea, that's exactly what it is :lol There's Takahashi for you. Note that game game is in the "Productivity" section rather than "Games"
I'd certainly be interested in impressions from anyone who's picked it up, especially on how integral the camera and GPS are since I have a touch.
Cheers for the spot, bought!Benedict said:I know it's already been said in the Space Miner thread but some of you might not read it.
Space Miner is on sale for $1.99 for a limited time.
Where are the missing levels? The medal list shows 80 missing medals (40 levels) and the difficulty select shows 60 rainbows missing (120 medals?).dock said:Apple have just increased the download cap over 3G to 20MB! (from 10mb)
This is great news for me because Tumbledrop is about 13mb! Lots of people couldn't get the game before because it was over the 10mb limit, and they didn't have their iPhone on any wifi.

I'm open to these suggestions. In fact, it's not my call at all. I just know that at least once a week, someone new pops in and says "Hey, what should I buy?" I just thought it'd be nice to have a steady list going of games we love.japtor said:...so how about a wiki?
Anyway I agree with Aaron, just dump the scores. Maybe limit people to just one game to limit crap as much as possible, and if you want some form of ranking you can tally up votes or something. With Google Spreadsheets you can make a form so that might be a good way to add games/votes...if they can work like that.
Oh.. those are bugs, or mistakes, I'm afraid. There are are 120 medals in the game right now. 60 heart medals, and 60 star medals. 60 rainbows refers to the ordinary completion of a level.Zachack said:Where are the missing levels? I know what the rainbows mean, I'm just looking at the three instances of 20/40 on each difficulty button. And the two rows of "?" in the medals section.dock said:Oh.. those are bugs, or mistakes, I'm afraid. I'm working on new levels right now, but I'm ironing out a few bugs which are preventing me from progressing with certain level types.

I added a few.
EDIT: I dont have access to iTunes, so I cant get to the App Store to fill in the price & publisher. If someone can fill it in, that's cool, or I can wait until later to do that.
Would have to divide them by year or something like that.Dacvak said:This spreadsheet is awesome. We should make one of these for each console, too. =P
That's cool, as long as it's a good game. =DTogeo said:Fantastic idea. I put my own game on there let me know if that's against the rules :lol Everyone who's played it seems to like it. Now to look up the info on some of the adventure games I've been going through.

I supported an awesome developer with £3?? No... I blind purchased a game on a whim from a developer I have no feelings for or attachment to and have yet to even decide if the game is as good as everyone says. That doesn't change anything with the point I raised and doesn't give you any right to give me the holy gamer lecture. there are plenty of people, game dev or otherwise who could use my money, but fact is I bought the game as a product, for me as a consumer and I hoped it'd prove worth the investment, having it drop to a 3rd of the price hours later is fucking annoying. Or am I supposed to be happy that I was able to give extra support to these developers I've never heard of before?Tobor said:Oh no, you supported an awesome dev with $3. WTF is wrong with you people?
