If you're into word games check out Textropolis. The concept and execution is as simple as it comes (think Text Twist with various 9-letter cities throughout the world) but for my fellow achievement and completion whores it's a fantastic way to learn some new words and spend $.99

I fully recommend this.

Just got Bomber Online and I was hoping to download Payback today but.. :(

Sort of odd considering some of the crap they have no problem with and I mean that literally with iFart mobile.

According to a rough translation of Seaman creator Yoot Saito's blog by Offworld, a Nintendo DS version of the classic, disturbing Dreamcast game Seaman appears to currently be in development.

Seaman is a virtual pet-style game centered around a fish with a human-like face. The original game took advantage of the Dreamcast's microphone support by allowing user interaction with the often-surly Seaman.

The blog post also suggests that the already-announced iPhone version of Seaman 2, Gabo, has been finished for some time. The reason for its delay? Apple has "expressed displeasure" with the unique gameplay.

Damn, Payback was delayed due to a last minute bug. Hope they get it up soon, that does look fun.

I picked up Hero of Sparta, couldn't resist at that price.

Seconded. This game is lots of fun. The sound for building is a little loud though!

Me too, the iPhone has become my favourite portable gaming platform. Sure there are still better (well that's subjective) games on the ds/psp and a d-pad is always better. But the fact I don't have to carry an extra device with me, plus that most of these great games can be had for pocket change makes it a winner in my books.

Yeah, I agree.

I bought Touch purely as a games machine. And since I got it I haven't touched my NDS or PSP. Part of it is, of course, the whole "new technology!!!" thing but I've also really liked the games. Galcon, for example, is just greatness. And Bomboozle could've been released as a DS puzzler "as is" and it's brilliantly designed.

Etc.

Now I need to pick up Edge. I'm not sure why I haven't done that already. And Aurora the Fein 2. And 7 Cities. And... (aargh)

this is why Sony needs to move their ass and make a PSPhone.
Alas, Sony will drop the ball cuz they r too arrogant to upgrade PSPirate. they will wait for DS2 (and too busy with Home)

When I go shopping later today i'm so tempted to pick up an iPod touch, this thread has appeared so many times now it's pushing me over the edge, just a shame I can't afford a lovely iPhone.

How are you all finding these games? I know there is a ton of releases on iTunes now with most probably being not worth the price, but is the overall experience worth me paying £180?

IMO very much so, if you can afford it of course. With the wifi, itunes store which now lets you dl podcasts, video playback ability and lots of great games it's a no brainer imo.

I even use mine at work regularly, with exchange email/calender and even have an ssh client on there for configuring cisco switches/routers when I am out and about, I really couldn't live without the thing. It's because of this I award it my 'Purchase of 2008' award, and that was a year I got a kuro, new HD capable sound system and a new monster gaming PC.

Sure it's not perfect, wifi is a little gimped and other little annoying things crop up from time to time, but for everything they are capable of doing and with such an intuitive interface and OS it really shows that convergent devices are not only possible, but extremely useful.

Sounds extremely useful, I never knew that the iPod touch model had internet browsing and ability to watch youtube until only an hour ago, it's more more on par with the iPhone in my eyes now.

Another interest is to work on my own software for the thing, but I also find out that the SDK does not work on windows :lol

The only real difference from the iphone I believe is obviously the phone and gps, there may be other differences but not that I am aware of. I also was going to develop some apps for it but when I found out that I had to have a Mac to do so I decided against it, just not a Mac person :D, and it was only going to be some hobby coding.

8gig touch get! looks like i'm eating baked beans for a month now :D Just going to quickly say that the iPod is smaller and thinner then I thought, and the screen is bright and sharp I love it.

I just downloaded iPint and a shooter called Space Deadbeef, wow deadbeef is quite awesome and I love how you have to touch the enemies to lock on and move your ship up and down, it all moves so fluid too and looks amazing. I'm going to grab some racing games to play later on. So glad I brought one :D

I just got Crayon Physics Deluxe. Totally awesome puzzle game, the patch must have worked because I haven't run into any bugs yet, as of level 11.

how's rolando? is the hype warranted?

Yes. It's pretty long, great music and console-slick production values. Also it's not really just a LocoRoco clone as it is more of a puzzle game than LocoRoco's stages.

rolando is very nice. i play 5-10 minutes a day. nice to hop in but ....... i'm fuc*** addicted to texas hold em. i wasn't into poker at all (played only 2 games with friends in 2008) but now im walking all day long with my touch, playing poker. only thing that bothers me is that i cant play my own music while playing.

So is there a release list of upcoming "big" titles ? (from known games studios for example)

Any news for the MGS game ?

Yup. it's super polished and a lot of fun. a lot of the puzzles in the later portion of the game are pretty cool. lots of multi step puzzles that require some thinking.

and the music kicks ass. fun, jazzy tunes.

If anyone hasn't bought Tiki Towers buy it now. It's only 99 cents and it's really great. In my opinion, the best deal I've found yet. Sale ends on 1/18.

I brought fastlane and slotz racer last night and both are great fun, fastlane reminds me of some sort of ridge racer 4 clone without all the story mode and I love it, drifting does last a little too long once you hit a straight but otherwise totaly worth the £2.50 or so I had to pay for it.

Slotz racer is fun but only in short bursts, I use to love scalectrix as a kid so this game hit's the spot. was only 59p too (for a few days at least)

<3 my Touch

I still think it exposes the iPhone as much as it flatters it. As a game it's well designed, but I hate the tilt controls, and it tries to do too much with it's touch gestures. And the music is great until you cover the speaker with your right hand.

Honestly, I've spent the longest time playing Bejeweled. That gameplay never really gets boring to me. Shame Puzzle Quest is such a rip off.

Yeah, anytime where I need a game to play in short bursts (5 minutes waiting in the doctor's office yesterday), Bejeweled always gets the call. Sometimes I don't want to be such involved in a game, tilting and touching like crazy. Bejeweled is a casual time waster that is easily accessible.

Agreed about Puzzle Quest too. I was thinking once PQ came out that it would replace Bejeweled for sure. I played over 30 hours of Puzzle Quest on the PSP. That really pisses me off that it's so shitty.

I don't find it to be a killer app. It's got great graphics and music, overall the production values are excellent. That part is really impressive. I just find the game to be boring. It all really amounts to rolling some balls around obstacles, there's no depth to the gameplay and no real learning curve. Once you know how to play, you just plod through the levels.

This shouldn't come as a real surprise, but Rolando comes nowhere close to balancing depth with easy to pick up gameplay like any Mario platformer does. I only mention it because it was hyped up to be that game for the iPhone. I don't think we'll ever quite get there without a d-pad though.

That said, there are tons of great games on the thing, and Rolando has its merits.

The fact that it controls so well is one of the things I enjoy (and am surprised by) about the game.

Control is smooth and relatively easy to use. About the only hiccups I have is I tend to forget the spike Rolandos move differently (though that's my fault) and dragging with the two fingers (admittedly one area that needs improvement).

I mean, we aren't talking pre patched Monkey Ball here (shudder).

I can respect Rolando (art theft aside), but I just can't enjoy it. I'm like those jaded assholes that hate Wii games that use motion controls; playing Rolando all I can think about is how much I want a DPad.

I LOVE the final fantasy tower and defense. Such a great time waster.

The one with the split screen and where you can't directly control your guys? That's gotta be the worst tower defense game up there. Get Fieldrunners or even Tap Defense.

Is SimCity worth a purchase? I've never even played SimCity, but I enjoy games like Roller Coaster Tycoon. I know SimCity is on a much grander scale but do you think I should get it? I would like a nice tycoon-esque game on my iPod.

Really? Maybe because I can relate to the characters. I enjoy it. You can tilt it side ways so the screens not split. I looked at field runners. Still thinking about it. I might buy it. I like strategy games so field runners could work.

Spent some more time playing Rolando last night. It's good, but probably only deserves 3/4 of the hype. The controls -- for what they are -- are pretty tight and pretty easy to get into. I'm like the TheGreatDave, though: I am just not the biggest fan of motion controls. It seems no matter how tight they get, they just are never precise enough.

The devs did strike the right balance, however. It's not Mario tight because you control Mario with a d-pad. The level design and learning curve in Rolando (from what I've played so far, only into the second world) match up really well with the control scheme designed for the game. Another thing that bugs me about motion control and the iPhone is that you're moving the screen at the same time as you're watching the action, which I am not a fan of. At least in Rolando, the movement takes place on a 2D plane, so the visual disruption is not that bad.

What a ridiculous statement, is there some kind of formula to figure this out?
