Seeing Eliss mentioned again I'd love to give it a try but since there is no lite version I have to rely on reviews and I still can't grasp what the heck this game is about even based on the couple of them that I've read.

Is there simple explanation behind it? For some reason I almost get a Rhythm Tengoku feel from it.

Maybe I need a good YouTube review. heh.

Different colored orbs appear, and same colored orbs can be moved, combined or split apart with your fingers. Your goal is to get rid of a certain number of orbs, which is accomplished by putting the orbs into same-colored gates which appear. There are two tricky parts to this: 1) different colored orbs can't touch each other, or they quickly deplete your health bar; 2) Orbs have to basically be the same size as the gate to take them out of play.

Since the gates and orbs randomly appear (and very quickly), you are constantly shuffling orbs, splitting and combining them as fast as possible. It's really really hectic

Thanks Flib, sounds insane. :lol

I'll check out those videos when I get home tonight when I'm not behind a firewall. Even my Touch can't penetrate it while at work. heh.

Can I redownload it straight from the app store on the iPod? I was always afraid to do that in fear of getting billed twice.

Meant to post this a couple of days ago but got hung up on Resident Evil 5. ;)

Originally this one was going to be a round-up of arthouse or games that don't fit easily into one of the other categories but with how long it took I just decided to add in any other good or popular titles into the mix. I'm thinking about starting a separate thread with these roundups and keep updating them so I'll eventually move the ones that don't fit back into their proper categories.

Eliss. Perfect example of an original concept that is uniquely suited for the iphone. A different kind of puzzle game.

Newtonica & Newtonica 2 - Return of the Baby Bird. The Newtonica series of games are a collaboration effort between Kenichi Nishi and Kenji Eno. Newtonica is more of an action game while Newtonica 2 is more puzzle oriented.

Pocket God. While not my particular cup of tea, Pocket God functions more as an interactive toy than a true game. Constantly updated by the developers and very popular and well reviewed on the appstore.

Up Next: Games Not Yet Released. Decided it's better to put all the unreleased games in one post rather than having them spread across the different genres lists.

I have a question about itunes. I recently purchased Dance Dance Revolution S, with the pay pal option. This was my first purchase, so I had to verify my account with my debit card. I went to check my paypal account and bank account and there was no charges from amazon for 6.99. It's been about 5 days, and still no charge. I don't think apple makes mistakes like this. Does Itunes charge immediately, because I feel like I did something wrong.

Flight Control is really fun. It is/was on sale for 0,79 euros and thats a good price for it.
Pretty simple game but a good one.

not always. 5 days is a long time to wait though

Damn, thanks for that post Stoney.

My wife would go insane for both Stone of Destiny and Everest: Hidden Expedition. She's already blown through most of the DS games in the seek & find genre (Outside Cate West which she didn't care for much) and now I'll never get her off my Touch.

:/

Are there any sites out there with reliable release schedules for upcoming titles? I know things won't be comprehensive since 90+% of the apps come out of nowhere, but for big stuff like MGS Touch (yes, i know this is already out), Toki Tori, gameloft stuff, etc... is there any good resource for upcoming release dates?

I can second this. Just picked it up for a buck and it's solid fun.

i also can recommend flight control, great game that i've fun to challenge my friends to get high scores in.. great for lectures!

star defense looks like it'll be interesting.. although geodefense has made me feel really weak in my ability to play tower defense games

Stoney, I love your round ups, any chance of putting one together with the best of them all?

I was going to originally but I've sort of changed my mind since these already subjective lists get even more subjective with a "best of" especially if its just one person's opinion. We'll see.

I'll third the recommendation. Probably one of the best uses of 99 cents in the store.

All Digital Chocolate games are 2.99 for the rest of the month.

Figures, I just bought my wife the Chocolate Shop Frenzy game a couple weeks ago.

It's a great little game BTW, extremely polished and highly recommended to the Diner Dash genre fans out there. It refines things a bit by adding some more depth to the gameplay as well.

How is Metal Gear Solid Touch? Anyone have it? It is very well reviewed on the Ap Store but a lot of those could be just because of the name.

Check out the official thread the majority of people there seem to enjoy it. I really like it, smooth gameplay, great graphics, and great controls. You get 12 levels with the next 8 to be included in a free update later. You also get a survival mode after beating the first 12 levels and a shop where you can purchase exclusive background screens. For me it was worth it for $8. What's $8 anyway a trip to McDonalds?

Thanks for your excellent roundups Stoney they are very handy indeed.

Did anyone catch the announcement of Galaxy of Fire over at toucharcade?
Looks amazing, space combat with Elite like space trading.

I like it as well. Fastlane is the more "hip" game to like and I do like it but I find asphalt to be more fun to actually play.

Which reminds me, has anyone tried Ferrari: GT?

I brought let's golf this morning and so glad I did, the game is better then the screenshots show and it's real fun and quick to setup and play too, some of the holes run a bit choppy in my touch but otherwise it's real fluid and looks great. It feels like a game you would pay £20 for on the DS, honestly.

Feel the same way, I'm really impressed with it. Very fun, polished game.

Man, geoDefense is kicking my ass! :(:lol

Also picked up 7 Cities on sale, gotta love quality .99 games.

So my collection now includes:

Rolando ($5)
Edge ($5)
Archibald's Adventures ($5)
geoDefense ($1)
7 Cities ($1)
Fieldrunners ($3)

Crazy value for $20.

Stoney have I ever told you I hate your guts? Cause I do, you just made me buy Rogue Touch, and put me on the fence with Flight Control, fence which followup commenters lost no time pushing me down from
and it's not the first time you do that!
.

Y'all a bunch of evil bastards :(

Flight Control is so worth it. Apparently an update is coming too, and it doesn't suck down the battery of my 2nd Gen itouch. Speaking of which, this thing's battery life is pathetic whe playing any 3d intensive game.

So I got that Rasta Monkey game.

It's quite a fun little game, but one thing that is really annoying is how low-res the UI and menus are. It's like some really shitty jpg compression.

I was just gonna come in and post this. I got it last night, and that screams "shitty port job."

WHY ISN'T DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION OUT ON EUROPEAN STORES??
Probably because it's called Dancing Stage over here and Konami can't be bothered to change the title screen.

Remember we normally have to wait 12 months for the console releases.

yep, pretty annoying... it wouldn't take long to replace those hideous images...

Holy crap Costanza, I-Doser really works. I tried the sleeping thing last night after I couldn't sleep for like an hour and right after I listened to it, I was out. The last thing I remember is selecting the sleeping one and pressing start.

btw EWB baseball came out which is spiritual successor to Earl Weaver Baseball or more accurately a port of his PC shareware title "I Got it Baseball" which was a spiritual successor to Earl Weaver Baseball.

Unfortunately it's pretty much a lesson in how not to release an iphone game. It's graphically ugly (which means no tricking the casuals into a purchase), It doesn't have a lot of the features or teams currently in that would make it worth buying (although he promises and seems open to updates) and it's expensive. $7.99.

I'm the intended market which is very small niche community of people who like baseball simulators but even I can't pull the trigger at that price and with the current feature set although with some updates maybe I'll be able to. I'd love a good baseball strategy game or simulator on the iphone so I'll keep my eye on it.

Just to kick the Rolando haters when they are down. ;) Rolando 2 and 3 announced and dated.

Opening the first day of GDC Mobile, Ngmoco CEO Neil Young gave a keynote speech titled "Why the iPhone Just Changed Everything."

The talk gave some interesting insight into how mobile gaming has evolved and how he sees Ngmoco's role in the ecosystem. Most interesting to gamers, however, were a few title announcements scattered throughout his presentation.

Fans of Zen Bound [App Store] and Spin will be pleased to find out that Ngmoco and Secret Exit are collaborating on a new game. No details on the game were provided, but Young stressed that they would bring each company's respective "super powers" together in order to build on each others strengths.

Meanwhile, Young also revealed that the Rolando level pack update was just the first of several. Between now and the end of May, Ngmoco is planning on releasing 3 more free level pack updates with 5 levels each. Bringing the total number of free add-on levels to 20 for Rolando

Rolando 2 ("Quest for the Golden Orchid") was also announced for a June release with 4 worlds/36 levels and will also be followed by a similar level-pack update system to bring 20 more levels by October. Finally, Rolando 3 will then be released in November, with the same free level packs released in followup.

Stay tuned for more GDC coverage at TouchArcade.com.
