FireMint is pretty awesome. They released their sales data on Flight Control. Pretty cool especially if you are a dev or for a dev.

Looks like a great port, but what did they do with the music?!

This is what should be playing:

I remember that song so well, and seeing the game without it is kind of a bummer.

EDIT: I guess it's still there somewhat. The levels seem off though. And the dudes never "duh'd". Still might check it out.

I looked at your game and it seems interesting. I get the premise of the game, but it's not really evident where the challenge comes from. I watched the trailer, and to be honest... it sucks. As an observer, I kept thinking, "why are they focusing so much on telling me how simple but deep the game is, and not actually talking about the game itself?" That's not just from the trailer, but also from the description on your app page in iTunes.

Kids vs. Zombies. Basically this one is like Attack from the Dead or the Flash Game Last Stand 2 but unlike Attack from the Dead this one doesn't suck and is quite fun imo. Same basic concept. Zombies attack in waves try to break through your barrier. After each wave you buy upgrades for your squad or fort to improve and defeat the progressively tougher waves. 4 difficulty levels. Lots of fun upgrade options. Not a great looking game but a fun playing game which is what counts.

Yeah - that's the problem when the designer has to do the trailer too ;-) I wasn't a fan of the trailer either, but when you have a short time to complete something, you pretty much have to go with the best you get and that was sadly the best I could do in the short time I had. Thanks for your honesty regardless :)

As for your question...

Challenge comes you having to figure out the optimal 'path' to solve the puzzle.

1. You have your target image.

2. You have a cursor that can only move one-space adjacent at a time.

3. You have a move limit.

4. Every time you move the cursor, you automatically flip a tile (each having two sides).

5. You don't choose what colour you flip it to. If you land on yellow, it flips to blue. If you land on blue, it flips to yellow.

So in short, you need to plan out a path that will make the game board look like the image on the top left.

First 8 levels are plain to drill in the basics, specifically how to look at certain setups and associate them with paths (subconsciously). After that, we introduce special tiles.

- Some allow diagonal movement
- Some have 'wormhole' tiles that transport you to other tiles on the board
- Some have 'bombs' that flip a radius of tiles

...and so on.

When I get time - as I am the only team member doing the PR stuff too - I'm going to reflect and look at all this stuff and see what I can fix / improve in an update, as this is something I plan on learning as I go along. As far as I can tell, the premise is obvious as fuck. You don't seem stupid, so I've gone into greater detail above in good faith that I've probably missed something along the way.

If that doesn't nail it, then I don't know what to say ;-)

Any good roguelikes on the app store?

RogueTouch is... well it's totally fucking lackluster compared to a lot of completely free roguelikes on PC. I play it a bunch but only because I feel like playing a roguelike on the train and it's the only option. IT MAKES ME SICK TO THE STOMACH THOUGH!!!

Okay it's not that bad, but I've definitely experienced much, much better. Both free and otherwise.

EDIT: I'm gonna finally have to jailbreak a bitch, aren't I. ):
No one knows? ):

Oh well.

That is the detail I was missing. I thought you could just tap on any panel you wanted to. Didn't know the panels you could select were determined by the one you are currently "active" on. Thanks for the explanation. I enjoy a good logic game, so I'm gonna try it out.

Found a plot of land for it right between Things and TV.com : )

Tiger Woods PGA Tour out for the iphone.

Oh fucking hell EA Sports, why? Sure, it's just $10 to you, but this is the end of my fucking life. Now there isn't going to be a single moment in my day when Tiger Woods PGA Tour won't be available to me.

Fuck you a hundred ways to hell.

Just bought it as well ;)

If only there was online. I guess that what TW 11 is for :lol

I bought it as well because I'm sports fan. Seems pretty solid so far in that it seems like a pretty solid interpretation of the Tiger Woods games that have been on handhelds in the past if those have been your thing. Seems relatively smooth performance wise although your iphone heats up like a mofo when playing it so you can tell this game is sucking major battery.

It will take me a bit of time to get use to the swing mechanic.

reggieandTFE said:
Huh. I think the gameloft Hot Shots rip-off I bought actually has better graphics than Tiger Woods.

I think its partially the art style. I think cartoony graphics always come off a bit better than "realistic" graphics when you have less power.

Here is Tiger Woods 07 on the PSP for instance.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ui9uzTWwlU&fmt=18

For what it's worth imo the graphics are more than solid enough if not good. The performance is a bit better than Let's Golf also framerate wise although that was never a deal breaker for me in Let's Golf.

Honestly the big difference if you want a golf game between these two comes down to golf swing mechanic. Even though Let's Golf had another swing option I'm sure the vast majority used the traditional Hot Shots style golf meter. In Tiger Woods you are using the swipe method to emulate pulling back on the analog stick and pushing forward. I'm more a hot shots guy in the regard so it will take me awhile to get use to Tiger Woods.

Will check our store text to make sure that shit is clear.

Would love to hear your brutally honest thoughts on the game too :)

And here is a genre example I was waiting for. The dig-dug resource management style game.

California Gold Rush coming soon to the iphone.

Say what you will about companies like EA or people like Trip Hawkins (and I've said a lot) but companies like Digital Chocolate, EA Mobile, and GameLoft continue to deliver good titles and turn the iphone into a viable legitimate platform that continues to exceed my expectations.

Someone update us if Tiger Woods is worth it for someone perfectly happy with Let's Golf.

It's hard to say. I think it probably goes toward how you feel if you've ever tried any of the Tiger Woods games on the handhelds or the consoles.

Let's Golf is a really fun take on Hot Shots. I think this version of Tiger is a pretty fun take on the Tiger Woods franchise. The swing meter is pretty fun. It works better than I thought it would. It has pretty good depth and replayability. Probably more so than Let's Golf in that regard. It's a mix of that sort of faux simulation arcade feel EA brings to their games in that it looks like a realistic sim but it still pretty fun and arcadey in many ways. For example much like Let's Golf you can put spin on the ball as it is in flight which of course drives purists nuts but for a more casual audience its perfectly fine. Let's Golf looks better. Tiger woods is more solid in the frame rate department.

As I said it probably comes down to the swing mechanic and the replayability on whether its worth having both. This games has more depth but if you don't like the swipe swing mechanic you won't like it. I do like the swing mechanic. It feels rights. I'm still trying to adjust to the putting mechanic though which is like the swing mechanic but doesn't have the distance indicators on it.

I like the game. I liked Let's Golf. I think I'll probably end up playing Tiger more but that's just my personal assessment.

The only thing that bugs me about Let's Golf is the slight delay when touching the screen during swings; it doesn't seem to be as accurate as many other iPhone games in that regard. I'm always tapping a bit before where I want the meter to stop.

I'll probably pick up Tiger Woods when it drops to 5 or 6 bucks.

Flick Fishing is indeed a good title and one that has matured a lot from where it started.

I only got it this week. I was shocked at how much stuff there is in this game. I guess I skipped the evolutionary process, and reaped the benefits of the more mature title.

Edit: Whoops, long week, didn't read it right. I will be there on day one for this. Love those types of games.

Fair enough although EA is one of the few devs on the platform who sticks to their prices on the app store so it will probably be awhile.

I actually applaud this. I love a good deal on the iphone even more than the next guy but you need some devs to stand up for their prices and in turn stand up for bigger games. Hopefully they don't overplay their hand though and over do it on frivolous micro-transactions when 3.0 hits.

There are a few titles that sort of exemplify everything right with the app store when you have a good dev who has been incentivized to add updates to spur sales. ishoot, 7 cities, Galcon, a few more. Basically products that went from being pretty good or above average to exceptional on the platform. We'll have to see how microtransactions effect this phenomenon.

Is California Gold Rush basically Motherload?

http://www.miniclip.com/games/motherload/en/

If so, awesome :D

Same style game of course.

Motherload is made by X-Gen studios. Supposedly they are waiting to see how their other big flash game, Defend your Castle, does on the iphone before bringing over Motherlode. Unfortunately a clone game called StickWars is selling much better in comparison at the moment.

There is another game of this style coming also called "I Dig it".

A game I worked on has now finally hit the App Store: Atari Football.

It's the most full-fledged football game on the iPhone (though that ain't saying much), at least until Madden hits probably next year. It's kinda-sorta based on the old Atari trackball X's and O's game (and uses a faux trackball for swipe controls), though we added some powerups and more plays, and of course all new graphics.

That's cool. I noticed that earlier and thought it was a clever idea. If only it had online :(

On a different note sometimes patience is indeed a virtue.

Yeah, unfortunately that requires a server running to handle matchmaking, otherwise it'd technically be possible - we're doing 2-player over WiFi, but we use BonJour for matchmaking, so it only detects other people using the same hotspot/router.

Totally understandable. Internet multiplayer just isn't currently seen as economically motivating yet on the iphone market I assume. I hope that situation changes as we move further into the future.
