There is a sequel coming. Oregon Trail: Origins

You cross the Bering Land Bridge from Siberia and make it down to Oregon, before the killer glacier catches up with your party of nomads.

Probably not the right place to ask this but I can't find my answer anywhere despite searching all over the web so here goes! Recently for some reason my apps won't sync with my 2nd generation 32GB iPod touch, it says its syncing, but only for a few seconds and then it acts as though its done, despite not having transferred over the new apps. Now I have already been through all the other recommended stuff like enabling then disenabling restrictions, de-authorizing and re-authorizing the computer, re-installing itunes, making sure all the boxes are ticked and so on, and so far the only option left to me is to restore my ipod, which I really don't want to do as it would be a major pain in the ass, so can anyone here offer any support? Thanks.

Don't think its the cable, I had an older one and tried to use it and it didn't make any difference. Will try to grab one from a friend tomo and see if its any good, but my hopes aren't hi. :(

Yeah i've tried 3 different cables now so i'm fairly sure they're not the problem. Can anyone else over any advice bout my problem? Please?I really can't deal with not having the new apps i've bought!!!

This seems to fix a relatively common syncing issue. Why not give this a try? This fix only applies if you're on a mac though.

In the meantime, why not download your new apps right to your iPod over wifi? Even if you don't have wifi there are lots of places that have free wifi available while you sort out the problem.

Now that I'm full up on Oregon Trail, I'm waiting patiently for Carmen Sandiego

I'm glad I'm not the only one hoping for that. I'll chase that red trenchcoat anywhere.

On a game note, I've been having a lot of fun with Abigale. It's a side scrolling shooter, controlled with the acceleromator. You collect gems to finish the level. It's not the best thing in the world, but it's fun. Was that one mentioned in the thread before? I can't recall.

Also, count me in as a Drop 7 addict. :D

just downloaded wolf3d. I think it's pretty good. was a big fan of oregon trail when i was a kid so maybe i'll try that next. What was the verdict on sim city? any good?

Probably old news here I'm sure, but Wolf3D is surprisingly amazing. :lol

The re-textured graphics are cool, and I love that it seems to be the entire game, but it's the controls that are surprising. They're incredibly responsive considering it's all touch-based, and there's never any point where I feel like I can't do what I want.

Really can't wait for the Doom port now.

Anyone here try Car Jack Street yet?

thats out? hmm

Yep, appears to be.

No lite version though. :(

The one thing about XBLA I really love that I wish everyone would follow, including both Sony and Apple, is mandatory demos for every downloadable title.

I'd wait for a lite version. It controls a lot better than Payback where that game almost immediately was a turn off on that front but it's still got some annoying issues relative to pretty much all the old school GTA's. It feels too zoomed in. You wish you could just jump over stuff on foot, etc. The on foot controls actually feel really good which was surprising for me. The in car controls feel less good but are adequate.

Chinatown Wars fixed a lot of the annoying stuff that use to bug me about old school GTA games but most of them are still present in Car Jack Streets for me.

It's certainly not unplayable and its far more playable than Payback but I would say try before you buy in this case.

Playing it makes me wish Chinatown wars was ported over.

I've been waiting for that since Carmack mentioned it on his development document that was released alongside iWolf3D on id's website.

I really hope that the customizable controls that were implemented in Wolf3D 1.1 are available on Doom. Hopefully it's out in a timely-ish fashion.

This was posted over at Touch Arcade by an id dev a few days back.

Wolf3D Lite will be out soon.

It's been "In Review" at the App Store since Tuesday. I can only hope it'll get through the review process soon.

The Lite version is free, and it contains Episode 1 levels 1-3.

Things are looking pretty good with Doom, though performance and multiplayer will take more time than Wolf did.

Yep, read that. Hopefully they take the time they need to make it awesome, just being the impatient consumer that I am, I hope it doesn't take too long.

Also, can anyone break down Drop7 for me? I've read the instructions countless times but it's still way above me. And when I say break it down, I mean break it down as if you were explaining to a sweetly retarded pre-teen.

Yeah, Chinatown Wars would be ideal. The IPhone can easily handle it on a technical level, as far as graphics. The controls and UI are likely the only possible stumbling block.

I would love to see a GTA game on the IPhone. No reason it couldn't be done eventually. We've seen some fairly innovative and creative stuff so far done with the touch screen.

The Dual screen stuff would have to be re-worked but I think it could handle the other controls fairly well with virtual controls. The virtual pad on Car Jack Streets for example is one of the best virtual pads I've used in a game for on foot movement. It's at least adequate enough to mimic the experience.

So I bought Lilt Line.

It's iCopter mixed with Tap Tap.

I've done seven (of 10 songs), and you control the line by tilting, which works surprisingly well, it's sensitive so there's no big movements involved. When a white line appears on the screen, you tap the screen when your line moves through, keeping rhythm to the beat.

The scoring system is quite interesting. You start out with the highest possible score, every mistake you make (like missing a tap or driving into the tunnel walls) removes points from your score. If your score reaches zero, it's game over.

The levels are very short, just a minute of game on each (or something like that). The music is top though, done by 16-bit:

The visuals are retro and simple, and I like them a lot, menus with bright pink and green colours and they don't distract once in game.

Worth $2,99?

I have no idea.

I'm going back to play the last three songs now, then start completing all songs with max points. Should be a challenge.

Another post another game pimping.

The Treasures of Montezuma is a damn good story based take off on Bejeweled. At only $2 it's also a great deal.
This game is great, thanks for the heads up.

Reminds me of Dotstream. Bought.

Is there a thread on Neogaf for non-game app recommendations?

I'm looking for some music composition software. In particular I want to make cute melodies for video-games. Is there anything worth getting for this?

Don't know but there is a regular iphone thread in the OT that is very popular.

Yay. Just got ClickandBuy working, so I bought 4 apps already

Flight Control
WordFu
Payback
Galcon

Any other titles I must have? Please not too expensive.. :lol

Hope you tried to lite version for Payback or indeed any lite version that exists for a game you want. I think Car Jack Streets (while flawed in its own ways) is the superior title.

The only Match-3 puzzler I want is Zoo Keeper, but it is not on iTunes Store. Instead there is a shitty rip off called MiZoo :( There is absolutely no way I am paying for that bullshit - the sprites are horrible and it is such a shameless rip off you have to wonder how lawyers have not been involved yet.

Yep, you bet I did. I really liked Payback and I really will want to try a lite version of CJS.. Any other good titles?

Was very surprised at how well Wolf 3D controls (tried the Lite version yesterday). Runs very smooth although that's less surprising given it's age and the hardware its running on. Not a giant Wolf 3D fan, but I will certainly pick up Doom day one whenever that finds it's way to the platform.

Drop7 didn't really do it for me, and I feel like I've shamed this thread somehow. Maybe I just need more time with it.

Uniwar was well worth the lone ninety-nine cents it cost me, although games that don't support iPod music playing in the background kinda irk me... that should be standard for all titles I think. Thankfully any decent game seems to get it patched in eventually.

I've "completed" Lint Line. I'd be surprised if there's more than 20 minutes of music in there, probably a lot less.

I'm going for perfect runs now.

I like it, the presentation and the idea, but it could use (a lot) more variation, the rhythm patterns are basic, to say the least and they could (should) be more incorporated into the gameplay.

Well if you enjoyed the lite version that is all that matters.

Rolando
Azkend
Zen Bound
Roland
Zombieville USA
iDracula
Wolfenstein
iShoot
UniWar
Tap Tap Revenge 2 (free)
Drop7

to randomly pick some titles. There are plenty more. Some have lite versions some don't. The best thing to do is go back every few pages in this thread and see what people are talking about.

I don't like Drop7 at all either. I really regret paying full price for that one. It's a good job you can't 'gift' your apps to other people, as there are plenty that I would gladly pass on to anyone that wants them. I'm glad you can't though (because I'm an iphone developer too :p)

I really enjoyed it. It just shows you we are in a time where there are great games that some people dig and some don't.

No matter what the game there will always be people who don't like it. Doesn't mean they are wrong it just means everybody is different. I personally never cared for Tetris which is arguably the most wide spread game on the planet.

You regret paying $5? I mean, come on. I could understand if it was a $60 retail game, but $5? You can't buy lunch for that. Consider it as a $5 investment to help a fellow developer.

I purchased Payback for full price, and it did nothing for me. I don't regret it though, it was one less cup of coffee that week, nothing more.

Heavy Mach is great. Its been the most playable game I have on my iPhone (and I have a lot!).

Anything else like it or better?

Is there an easier way to see a big list of games with Lite versions? What I'm doing so far is punching in names of interesting titles in this thread into the iTouch and searching, but it's slow.

Just do a search for "lite". It pulls up every lite app in the store.

You're getting ripped off if your coffee costs $5 a cup.

my point: sure, $5 may not be a lot of money to some, but some of us are tightwads who buy the regular $.15/cup coffee. In that case I'd have to go a full month without coffee to make up for it, so the game better be entertaining enough to keep me awake. :D

I play the Drop7 Lite version, starting to understand the game a little more, I just don't understand why sometimes solid block get to explode - even when it is not next to one of those number block that just got exploded.

But anyway, is there much else Drop7 offers in the full version? The Lite version seems to have everything in the main mode already.
