I don't know if its a sale of permanent discount, and yes Star Trigon is awesome.
Dont know about pole position, I think asphalt is enough for me.

I'm not really interested in Cro-Mag rally but $2 is not much

I've been meaning to buy Galcon too. What is that like? I keep hearing RTS but looking at the screenshot I can't really grok it.

There's video available in places.

Basically, you're trying to turn all the planets your color or get rid of all the enemy.
Each planet that is your color you can shoot little missles/ships whatever they are at other planets.
The more planets you have, the more fire power you have basically.

You're playing against the computer for control of all the planets or to destroy each other.
There's even multiplayer and leaderboards if you register a username at the website.

THQ Wireless Inc has released Star Wars: Force Unleashed [App Store] to the App Store. The $9.99 game offers a companion game to the full version due for release on September 16th. The game is described:

Experience the Star Wars universe as never before. The devastating power of the Force is in your hands. You are Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice, trained by the menacing Sith Lord to hunt down the last of the Jedi. Unleash a barrage of Fource Powers - including Grip, Lighting, Jedi Mind Trick and much more - at the flick of your fingers as you tap, touch and swipe your way through enemies using the intuitive touch-screen mechanics and exclusive CellWeaver feature. Your journey will take you across the galaxy to clash with powerful enemies, yet you are destined to clash with powerful enemies, yet you are destined to become something far greater than just Darth Vader's servant.
We'd previously seen screenshots and an early video of this major gaming title.

Force Unleashed not showing up for me. Anyone going to the SF party at Best Buy tonight?

Be sure to eat some extra finger foods for me tonight.

Maybe even a double shot of that Anchor Steam ale.

For a minute there, I thought Che was replying to his own post...

I am also curious about Force Unleashed. Anyone ready to take the plunge and let us know how it controls? does it get repetitive?

If nobody knows by tomorrow, I'll go ahead and bite the bullet.

You are a fine Neogaf soldier.

The app store is so deadly for compulsive behavior.

It's become so that I even hesitate to buy apps that are $1.99 or less.

Hey, what can I say? Steam makes buying PC games easy (addictive, even), and the App Store has the same effect on me.

I have almost completed Force Unleashed for the iPhone. 6 chapters in total and a 'Survival' mode.

You don't control your character which were to be expected as previews have already indicated. Though, you have complete control over your force powers and there are many of them. Mind control, lightning, push/pull, drain and so on. You do those attacks by writing commands written above the enemies heads.

You can gain health by doing a circle anywhere on the screen, so it has so far never gotten challenging at all. Your force meter regains pretty fast. Though, I do love the cinematic view, graphics (backgrounds in particular are fantastic artistically) and there's a new approach to every boss encounter. But when the game is done, I can't see me going back for yet another play-through. Hilariously bad dialogue as well.

thanks for the impressions. does it get boring during that first play through? due to lack of challenge or just repeating the same commands? any "that was cool" points?

Yeah I just got Star Trigon, great game. I need to pay attention when browsing the appstore. Its the ultimate impulse buy store ever.
I bought Star Trigon, Real Soccer 2009 and the discounted Galcon. Thats $25 spend in a few clicks :-) Its not much but normally I would think again before buying, even on XBLA and PSN.

I would have to agree. I'm not big on buying music or videos on itunes, but those apps are making my wallet hurt.

Well.. there are surdenly some cool moments as a cellphone game. I don't know if it'll get boring for the majority of people (I have completed the game now) as it is too short and repetetive indeed. When it gets boring it's due to a combination of repetetive commands and lack of a challenge. Though, there's two difficulty settings, and I just completed it on 'normal'.

Any more questions are welcome.

I broke down and bought it and only completed the first chapter. The above impressions sound about right. One thing I should mention is that the graphics constantly chug making the game feel slower that it should. The models also look slightly distorted to me, but maybe it's just because the texture quality is fuzzy.

One good feature is that you can play the game in portrait or landscape mode - the game will just crop the graphics to compensate for the orientation on the fly. Doesn't really change the gameplay in any way, but worth mentioning. Also, you can draw the gestures anywhere on the screen so most of the onscreen action is visible at all times.

Finger foods FTW.

I resisted :) thanks for the impressions. I think I'll be picking up Star Trigon instead for my 10 bucks.

But not this week. I need to spread out the app store spending so I don't blow 30-50 bucks a week like I did back in July.

I'm a gaming journalist, and having thought about the game after completion, I don't think I would recommend it to people, until the price gets knocked down. It's simply too short, not challenging and repetetive.

Thanks.. I think I'll try something else that nobody's heard of yet. Maybe it'll be another gem.

:lol @ us using phrases like "take the plunge," "bite the bullet," and "broke down."

Everything two bucks and under: Impulse buy.

Everything two bucks to five bucks: Hmm... Sure, why not.

Everything five bucks and over: I break down and bite the bullet, and go ahead and take the plunge so others don't have to.

I'm getting confused with you and Che having almost the same avatar.

If Namco could drop the price, I would buy Star Trigon

We are one in the same - only we look in different directions.

Yeah, it sucks that the regular 5G iPod version of Star Trigon is only five bucks, and now we have to pay double for the port. I wouldn't expect a price drop on this game any time soon. Just look at what Namco's charging for all its games, even the launch ones:

http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewArtist?id=281656478

Overall though, it seems that the smaller devs are dropping prices at a rate that reflects how well the app is selling, while the bigger publishers are taking their time and/or not dropping prices at all. Just compare the price changes for Cro-mag Racing versus, say, Monkey Ball, and look at the games' history on the charts.

There is an update available for Pinball RC, which I assume makes it actually playable on 2.1 FW. There is also a note that says improved framerate. Hopefully it makes it smoother to play, because the framerate was pretty awful.

They shipped my Touch yesterday and i got it today :)
Ultra-super-uber-Off topic: how much should i charge it first time?

I got my new touch and started using it immediately after I synced it. I just let it drain, then charged it back up again. Not sure if that's what I should have done, but it still works. Also, I LOVE this fucking thing. It might be one of the greatest gadgets I have ever owned. I've had is since Friday and currently have 4 screens full of apps!

itunes is becoming identical to other mobile decks - recognizable titles and "me too" games beat out much better original titles.

Just browsing through the top 100 gives a clear picture of the platform - big names and shitty knock-offs selling for $1-$4 dominate.

For everyone that thought iPhone could be a bastion for original handheld games, this is a really huge bummer. Sure, there are good titles... but they are few and far between.

Give it time.
[and i agree with you but... give it time]

Heads up. Motion X Poker is ONE DOLLAR on the app store. down from 5 bucks.

the polish in this game is great. you got achievements, cool physics and sounds. multiple dice and tables to unlock. buy it NAO.

Hmm, i see that Cro-Mag Racer is 2 €.
That guitar-app is less than 1 €.

Great prices there, but then Crash Bandicoot ... 7 €?
But anyway, please give me some tips about iPod Touch games.
What should i buy?
Monkey Ball any good?

This is right on, with one oversight . . . the sound. Good Lord, the sound. The device is built to play music and you have a horrendously shitty MIDI soundtrack? Fail.

It feels like a generic DS title ported to the iPhone. At least I didn't have to pay $30 for it, I guess.

I saw a video and was astounded by shitty the sound was. They really cut corners there. sounded like it should have been on a typical non-smartphone.

X-plane looks tempting but i know i'll get bored of it too quickly in its current state. I think i'll wait until they add more terrain. a city would be ideal. it was fun flying low over the buildings in MS flight sim back in the day.

[I'll browse the whole Apps from iTunes now, anyway.]

Thanks

There is a Galcon Lite out right now, released at some point today. Thought some people who were wanting to try it would like to know.
